Anytime you need a distration.

Where does it take place?
Disney backlot.

Why did I decide to watch this?
Beauty and the Beast is my #3 favorite movie.

How did I like this?
I really liked this, but I do think the idea of it was better than the execution. I absolutely loved the mixed media approach to see the history of the movie while also watching what I love most and also getting a fresh take on it.

The casting was not the best. Le Fou, Belle, and Mrs. Potts did not work at all. However, Gaston was A+++! More Gaston, please.

Rating: TV-14
Run Time: 1 hour
Release Date: November 23, 2022
Genre(s): Fantasy, Horror, Series
Production Co.: MGM Television
Director: Tim Burton

Who would I recommend this to?
Everyone who likes their shoes creepy and kooky.

What is this about?
Wednesday Addams uncovers the dark secrets of her new school for outcasts.

When would be a good time to watch this?
ASAP.

Where does it take place?
Jericho, Vermont.

Why did I decide to watch this?
Because I love the Addams and Tim Burton.

How did I like this?
I really enjoyed it! The plot was fun, if predictable. I loved seeing Wednesday make friends while still being herself. Enid was totally fun! I wasn't too keen on the "romance" as neither boys were that interesting or seemed compatible.

Catherine Zeta Jones is not a good Morticia. I was worried about her casting but still held on to hope. But nope. Not good. Everyone else is great though. Although I do think Luis Guzman was holding back a bit.

If not, would you watch it?

Disenchanted (2022)

Title: Disenchanted
Rating: PG
Run Time: 2 hour 1 minute
Release Date: November 18, 2022
Genre(s): Fantasy, Musical
Production Co.: Walt Disney Pictures
Director: Adam Shankman
Starring: Amy Adams, Maya Rudolph, Patrick Dempsey

Who would I recommend this to?
Those of us who remember the first one.

What is this about?
Giselle makes a wish for a fairytale life that has gone terribly wrong...or terribly right.

When would be a good time to watch this?
After the first one.

Where does it take place?
Monrolasia.

Why did I decide to watch this?
Because I love the first one and am a Disney slave.

How did I like this?
I adored it! Obviously, the first one will always be superior, but it's hard to beat. This is a worthy sequel though. It's another trope flipping fun time. Yes, it's predictable, but that's the point. Giselle wants her fairytale life but it's not going like she planned,  but making that wish puts her exactly in a story she knows all too well and doesn't want.

When would be a good time to watch this?
As soon as possible.

Where does it take place?
Adalasia and New York City.

Why did I decide to watch this?
The first time because it's Disney and looked adorable. Now, because the sequel is here!

How did I like this?
I never get sick of this movie. It is easily one of Disney's best live-action movies. It makes fun of all the princess tropes while also fully embracing them. It's cheesy and adorable and clever and makes me cry.

This movie is criminally underrated. I swear only me and my BFF remembered it existed before the sequel was announced.

GoT fans.

Political turmoil in House Targaryen.

Whenever you have 10 hours for drama.

Where does it take place?
King's Landing, Westeros.

Why did I decide to watch this?
Because I was curious, and loved Got pre-final season.

How did I like this?

The first three episodes were kind of boring, but after that it really picks up! Episodes four and eight were easily my favorite of the season. If you're looking for more GoT, this is not really it, but it's interesting in its own right. It has a much narrower focus, which makes it a bit easier to follow. Other than everyone having the same name.

Dragons!

Drag Race fans, or even those who are new and need to experience it for the first time.

What is this about?
Eight previous winners come back to become the Queen of All Queens!

When would be a good time to watch this?
When you need something fun to binge.

Where does it take place?
The workroom and main stage.

Why did I decide to watch this?
Because I always watch Drag Race.

How did I like this?
This was such a fun season! I really liked this twist of no eliminations; it added some good strategy to the competition. And it's always nice to see some of my favorites again (Monet, Trinity, Yvie, and Viv). Was I happy with the winner? No. Again. But it was a great season overall.

Fairytale Justice is now one of my all-time favorite challenges! That was hilarious and so much fun! And the TRL flashback challenge...so good!

Honestly, I just love seasons where the queens are getting along and you can tell they're just having a good time. Yes, they know it's a competition, but they don't get catty and mean for no reason.

Where does it take place?
The main stage.

Why did I decide to watch this?
Because I love Drag Race.

How did I like this?
The makeover challenge on the main line of Drag Race is always one of my favorites, so an entire season of it is like a dream come true! I did love how this second season leaned into the "secret" aspect, as we don't know who the contestants are until they're sent home.

It's just a super fun time! Not as good as the main series, but still something to promote happiness. And I was very happy with the winner! YAY!

Uh...Spooky Season, if you must. Or just leave it alone.

Where does it take place?
Salem, Massachusetts.

Why did I decide to watch this?
Because I had to.

How did I like this?
The end was good. Everything else...just no. You can't wait 30 years to make a sequel to one of the most epic movies ever and expect it to be good. It was trying too hard.

Where does it take place?
The Lost City of D.

Why did I decide to watch this?
Because it looked fun.

How did I like this?
It's so funny! Just the right amount of jokes. It never went too far, which doesn't for work for me, but it also didn't hold back. I just love the whole premise as a Romance reader. The romance was super fun and cute and not something I would have ever expected. It's just a good time.

After the other movies?

Where does it take place?
Asgard and beyond.

Why did I decide to watch this?
Thor is hot. So is Kat Dennings.

How did I like this?
Cancer jokes...not really funny...maybe I'm just sensitive because of my mom, but....cancer jokes? Powering through Stage 4 cancer because I'm a strong woman!!! No, thanks. I will cure my cancer with Thor's hammer! What?!?!

Other than that, this movie is ridiculous. In a fun, this makes no sense kinda way. Nudity.

Release Date: September 8, 2022
Genre(s): Adventure, Fantasy
Production Co.: Walt Disney Pictures
Director: Robert Zemeckis
Starring: Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Tom Hanks, Benjamin Evan Ainsworth

Who would I recommend this to?
The next wave of Pinocchio fans.

What is this about?
A wooden puppet comes to life and learns what it takes to be a real boy.

When would be a good time to watch this?
On a dark and stormy night. Total autumn vibes, not end of summer.

Where does it take place?
Italy.

Why did I decide to watch this?
Because it's Disney.

How did I like this?
They kept Honest John as a fox?!!? I assumed they were making everyone human! YES! But also, why are Pinocchio and Jiminy so bright?! The movie is kind of dim and toned down, but they're animated quite brightly. They stick out a bit too much.

Overall, it's a pretty straight-forward adaptation. Not much was added or taken away. It's very familiar and also brought something new. But where was the Blue Fairy during most of this?

BUT...Sharktopus. That is all!

Tiny Shoulders: Rethinking Barbie (2018)

Title: Tiny Shoulders: Rethinking Barbie
Rating: NR
Run Time: 1 hour 31 minutes
Release Date: April 27, 2018
Genre(s): Documentary
Production Co.: Hulu
Director: Andrea Blaugrund Nevins
Starring: Richard Dickson, Kristina Duncan, Michelle Chidoni

Who would I recommend this to?
Anyone interested in the history of Barbie and how she made her comeback for modern audiences.

What is this about?
The rise and fall and resurgence of the Barbie doll.

When would be a good time to watch this?
No rush, but whenever you feel like.

Where does it take place?
America.

Why did I decide to watch this?
I've been on a Barbie kick lately.

How did I like this?
It's kind of dry. When I think of Barbie, I think fun and glamour and possibilities! This was kind of a downer. I know it's about how Barbie was becoming irrelevant and almost hated, but the delivery didn't need to be so somber.

Do I think Barbie needed a makeover? Yes and no. I definitely think there needs to be a range of skintones and body types so kids can see themselves in the dolls. But I don't think Barbie herself needed a change. She was never meant to be realistic, she was just a vessel for children to project their imaginations on. You can't please everyone.

When would be a good time to watch this?
When you need some wholesome entertainment.

Where does it take place?
The main stage, Canada.

Why did I decide to watch this?
Because it's Drag Race...in Canada!

How did I like this?
I adored it from the moment the first queen walked in. It's just so fun! Definitely different from the US edition, but still comforting and familiar. It's been a long time since I cried during DR, but this one hit me in the second episode! My all-time favorite runway theme was also from the second episode! Then I cried again during the first ever Drag Race pageant, but from laughing so hard. Holy crap!

It's weird to not see Mama Ru at the judges panel, but I like all three of the judges a lot. And I definitely appreciate that Brook Lynn Hytes isn't trying to BE RuPaul. She's being her sweet poised self. And I've always loved Stacy from ANTM, and feel like she was perfect here! Jeffrey is just adorable; that smile!

Team Priyanka!

When you need a laugh or a trip down memory lane.

Where does it take place?
Hollywood.

Why did I decide to watch this?
Because it's Disney and looked super fun.

How did I like this?
This movie is hilarious! There are nonstop jokes, but not in an annoyingly forced way. It's more of a "if you know, you know" situation as there are so many references and cameos. I also loved the combination of all of the different animation styles and live action. It's also just a fun movie in general even if you weren't a Disney Afternoon fan.

When would be a good time to watch this?
Soon, if you haven't already.

Where does it take place?
Space.

Why did I decide to watch this?
Because it's Pixar, duh.

How did I like this?
I adored it! It made me laugh! It made me cry! It made me feel in general. It's definitely a fun and unique spinoff to a well-loved series. The "twist" was kind of weird, but I still enjoyed it.

I do have to say, that while I adored Sox, I was kind of annoyed how he was a blatant ripoff of Baymax, who is my absolute favorite robot companion ever.

Where does it take place?
Seattle, Washington.

Why did I decide to watch this?
Because I loved the original iCarly and the first season of this reboot was A+!

How did I like this?
Excellent follow up to a fantastic first season! I liked how it focuses more on issues outside of iCarly, such as relationships and being sued and started side businesses and losing your mojo! It's the same humor we all know and love, but with a ton of heart. And sex jokes.

"Lean back, Fat Joe." I love references only Millennials understand!

RuPaul's Drag Race - Season 12 (2020)

Rating: TV-14
Run Time: 1 hour
Release Date: February 28, 2020
Genre(s): Reality, Series, LGBTQ+
Production Co.: World of Wonder Productions
Starring: RuPaul, Michelle Visage, Ross Mathews

Who would I recommend this to?
Drag Race Fans.

What is this about?
Thirteen queens compete to be the next drag superstar!

When would be a good time to watch this?
Two years ago.

Where does it take place?
The main stage and the workroom!

Why did I decide to watch this?
I love this show but I missed this season.

How did I like this?
This season started off rough for me. I liked the queens, but the challenges just weren't that good. But it does pick up around the middle, and I really enjoyed it! It was also interesting to see them lip sync for the crown at home! 2020 feels so long ago, but also like yesterday.

Obviously, I already knew who won, but that didn't stop me from having favorites who didn't win (Gigi, Jackie, and Nicky). I do wish they had moved Jackie into the finale after disqualifying Sherry though.

Run Time: 24 minutes
Release Date: January 10, 2021
Genre(s): Anime, Romance, Comedy, Series
Production Co.: Aniplex
Starring: Haruka Tomatsu, Koki Uchiyama, Seiichiro Yamashita

Who would I recommend this to?
Fans of awkward teen romance and friend groups.

What is this about?
A group of students who come together during their final year.

When would be a good time to watch this?
Whenever.

Where does it take place?
Japan.

Why did I decide to watch this?
I was drawn in by the loner boy with glasses, tattoos, and piercings who gets the girl!

How did I like this?
This is a really cute series, but the pacing and focus was all over the place. The first half is a really cute romantic comedy between Kyoko and Izumi. Then it shifts to being more episodic stories about each member of the friend group. Then it goes back to the romance, but not fully. I liked all of the characters, but shoving all of their stories into a handful of episodes didn't seem like the best choice. If only this series had been longer. Or shorter, and just focused on the initial romance.

Who would I recommend this to?
I guess if you like incomplete artsy short films...

What is this about?
A teen girl with a mysterious dangerous past that isn't so past.

When would be a good time to watch this?
Never.

Where does it take place?
No idea.

Why did I decide to watch this?
It seemed intriguing.

How did I like this?
I didn't. At all. It simply felt like an extended preview rather than a full story. There's no character development, no plot, no conclusion, no suspense. It just is.

If this were to become a longer form series or movie, I'd watch it though.

Production Co.: Paramount Pictures
Director: Randal Kleiser
Starring: John Travolta, Olivia Newton-John, Stockard Channing

Who would I recommend this to?
Fans of musicals.

What is this about?
An opposites-attract romance and other relational difficulties

When would be a good time to watch this?
Whenever you want a good singalong.

Where does it take place?
Rydell High School.

Why did I decide to watch this?
I cannot remember the first time I saw this movie, but I've always been fond of musicals.

How did I like this?
I adore this movie. It's delightfully cheesy. Yes, it's super dated and some of the content is questionable by today's standards, but it still holds up really well. The songs are super catchy and the fashion is amazing.

The only thing I don't like about it, and never have, was how Sandy had to be the one to change for Danny. Sure, he put in some effort, but threw it all out when he saw the new Sandy. Do NOT change yourself for a man, even if you do wind up looking super hot and getting a fun duet!

Why did I decide to watch this?
I love robots. I love robots with emotions.

How did I like this?
I adored Isla and Tsusaka! I knew it couldn't possibly end happily for these two, but I loved what time they did have. The idea of Giftia (androids with emotions and memories) with expiration dates was a fascinating concept. Of course, you could just say that every living thing has an expiration date, so we should cherish every moment with those we love.

Rating: TV-MA
Run Time: 24 minutes
Release Date: January 1, 2015
Genre(s): Anime, Drama, Series
Production Co.: Madhouse

Who would I recommend this to?
Fans of psychological dramas or dark anime or have an interest in human behavior in the face of death.

People who die together enter a mysterious bar where they're forced to play a game to determine their fate.

When would be a good time to watch this?
When you're in the mood for something twisted.

Where does it take place?
Quindecim, a kind of limbo...

Why did I decide to watch this?
The premise was too interesting to ignore.

How did I like this?
First impression, I was not expecting that intro song! I am here for it! Also, the premise is even better than I thought. You never really know someone until their life is at stake...and I thought I knew where things were going, but nope. This show will keep you guessing!

It does get less dark and twisted as it moves along, but gets more introspective. It really make you think about what it means to be human and really live.

Your Lie in April (2014-15)

Title: Your Lie in April
Rating: TV-14
Run Time: 22 minutes
Release Date: September 1, 2014
Genre(s): Anime, Drama, Series
Production Co.: A-1 Pictures
Starring: Natsuki Hanae, Risa Taneda, Ayane Sakura

Who would I recommend this to?
Everyone, as long as you can handle death and despair. Plus depictions of child abuse.

What is this about?
A fourteen-year-old piano prodigy has been out of the spotlight for two years following his mother's death, until a violinist pushes him back into the music scene.

When would be a good time to watch this?
Whenever you have 8ish hours to have your heart torn out, put back together, torn out again...

Where does it take place?
Japan.

Why did I decide to watch this?
I've been wanting to get into anime, and this seemed like a good one to start with.

How did I like this?
First impression, the animation is so pretty. And there's some really amazing effects that pop in as we get into Kousei's head.

I was concerned at first about how pushy Kaori was about getting Kousei to play again. Clearly this boy has some trauma surrounding the piano. Thankfully, this is addressed early on, and I was able to settle into this narrative about him going back to what he dedicated his entire childhood to. It certainly messed with my emotions, because I couldn't decide if I wanted Kousei to play competitively again, or be like EFF YOU to his mother's memory. She was emotionally manipulative and physically abusive, but was also his piano teacher. It's all very emotionally complex.

It's clear from the beginning that this one is not going to have a happy ending, but I wasn't quite prepared for this roller coaster. It was amazing to watching how many lives Kousei touched without even realizing it. And all of those people ultimately help him take back his life.

Release Date: October 28, 2011
Genre(s): Animation, Fantasy, Adventure
Production Co.: DreamWorks Animation
Director: Chris Miller
Starring: Antonio Banderas, Salma Hayek, Zach Galifianakis

Who would I recommend this to?
Fans of Shrek who need more Puss.

What is this about?
A bandit cat searches for the fabled Golden Goose.

When would be a good time to watch this?
Anytime really, but probably sometime after seeing the Shrek movies.

Where does it take place?
Spain, which has me questioning everything I thought I knew about the world of Shrek?!?!

Why did I decide to watch this?
Originally, because I loved Shrek and Puss. Now, because I just finished watching all of the Shrek's again and actually forgot this movie existed.

How did I like this?
Baby Puss is the cutest thing ever. Forget Baby Dory. BABY PUSS!

It's basically Shrek without the toilet humor and more sexual jokes. There's some definitely LOL moments, but overall, it didn't hold my attention that well. Probably why I forgot about it.

When would be a good time to watch this?

After the other three.

Where does it take place?
The Kingdom of Far Far Away.

Why did I decide to watch this?
Originally, in theaters, because it's Shrek! Now, because I missed Shrek.

How did I like this?
I really like it! It's my least favorite of the four, but it's by no means bad at all. It takes elements from the previous three movies to make something unique. And the ending makes me cry like a baby.

Have you seen Shrek Forever After? What did you think?

Shrek the Third (2007)

Who would I recommend this to?
Fans of the previous two movies.

What is this about?
When the king dies, Shrek and Fiona are next in line to rule, but that is the last thing Shrek wants!

When would be a good time to watch this?
After the other two and before the fourth one.

Where does it take place?
The Kingdom of Far Far Away.

Why did I decide to watch this?
I originally saw it in theaters because duh. Now I just had the urge to rewatch it.

How did I like this?
I adore this movie. It's so fun! Is it the best of the series? No, but the second one is impossible to top. I just liked how it dealt with "real" problems but still in the funny, fantasy style.

Who would I recommend this to?

Quirky animation fans.

What is this about?
A group of teens that travel through space rescuing aliens from wacky situations.

When would be a good time to watch this?
Whenever you need something to pick up your mood.

Where does it take place?
Outer space.

Why did I decide to watch this?
It looked fun.

How did I like this?
These are very easy to watch, bite-sized adventures. They're all less than 5 minutes, yet contain a full story. Not the deepest, most developed stories, but they're fun. It's not exactly my humor type, but they were so short, I wound up watching the whole season in one go.

There's no overarching plot, so I'm not invested. I likely won't watch the other seasons.

I do love the art style and colors and alien designs.

Genre(s): Animation, Fantasy, Comedy, LGBTQ+, Series
Production Co.: SpindleHorse Toons

Who would I recommend this to?
Fans of dark, adult animation who aren't offended by Hell, child dismemberment, and other macabre topics.

What is this about?
Demon hitmen who take out human targets of revenge.

When would be a good time to watch this?
Those days you just need some really dark humor.

Where does it take place?
Hell and random places around Earth.

Why did I decide to watch this?
I was in a quirky animation mood.

How did I like this?
I love this premise, which is why I watched it. But I am not a fan of gratuitous over-use of F-bombs; it's not edgy. It's just annoying. I was not a fan of the pilot episode, but then...

I was pleasantly surprised by the random musical numbers! And it's genuinely funny. I did LOL for real a couple times. And it's not all F-bombs and sex jokes; these characters have heart!

The animation and character designs are great!. And it's violent without being too gory. And I am 100% here for Blitzo and Stolas. Their relationship definitely has problems, but I adore them and need them to work it out! Communicate, boys!

Rating: TV-PG
Run Time: 12 mins
Release Date: November 20, 2014
Genre(s): Animation, Fantasy, Series
Production Co.: Frederator Studios
Creator: Natasha Allegri
Starring: Allyn Rachel, Kent Osborne, Alexander James Rodriguez

Who would I recommend this to?
Uhh...you'll know if this is for you or not.

What is this about?
A broke young woman doing random side jobs in an alternate reality with her strange pet.

When would be a good time to watch this?
Whenever you have an hour for something to totally change your state.

Where does it take place?
Some island and some alternate world.

Why did I decide to watch this?
It was mentioned in a Youtube video I watched and looked cute.

How did I like this?
This is not what I was expecting at all. It is completely unlike anything I have ever seen. The art style is exactly what I want to look at all the time. PuppyCat is the ultimate character. I liked how these short episodes covered some deep issues with care and humor.

The humor is not my thing at all, but that's a me problem that I'm well aware of. But I do think there needs to be more of this show. The finale was excellent and more to my liking and I need more of these characters!

RuPaul's Drag Race UK - Season 1 (2019)

Title: RuPaul's Drag Race UK - Season 1
Rating: TV-14
Run Time: 1 hr
Release Date: October 3, 2019
Genre(s): Reality, Series, LGBTQ+
Production Co.: World of Wonder Productions
Starring: RuPaul, Michelle Visage, Graham Norton, Alan Carr

Who would I recommend this to?
Drag Race fans.

What is this about?
UK Drag Queens compete to be the best!

When would be a good time to watch this?
Immediately.

Where does it take place?
The UK main stage and workroom.

Why did I decide to watch this?
Because I'd never seen it and needed to fill the hole left behind by season 14.

How did I like this?
I adored it! It's so different from the US show, but still familiar. I loved seeing how drag culture is different across the pond. It was also refreshing for the focus to be on the actual competition, not on the drama between the queens. Not to say that there weren't any fights, but nothing compared to the US queens. At all.

I was very happily entertained for these eight hours.

RuPaul's Drag Race - Season 14 (2022)

Genre(s): Reality, Series, LGBTQ+
Production Co.: World of Wonder Productions
Starring: RuPaul, Michelle Visage, Ross Mathews, Carson Kressley

Who would I recommend this to?
Fans of drag and reality competitions.

What is this about?
Drag queens compete to be crowned America's next drag superstar!

When would be a good time to watch this?
While you're stuck at home.

Where does it take place?
The main stage!

Why did I decide to watch this?
Because it's one of my favorite shows!

How did I like this?
This was the first season I watched where I didn't have an absolute favorite that I was cheering for! That's not to say that I didn't enjoy this season. Exactly the opposite. I generally like all of the queens except for one. No one really stood out and the competition was tight for the entire season! This is probably the most times Mama Ru didn't send anyone home after a lip sync. It did make this seasons feel super long though, and then having more "finalists" than the show has ever had? It's a competition! Send them home!

This season did have the absolute worst Snatch Game ever. Seriously. It was so bad. Which was surprising because everyone had been great up until this point! The reunion episode was one of my favorites though as it seemed like the best balance of humor, feelings, and drama. But the final was underwhelming; I just didn't like the format. I was happy with the final two though, and thus the winner as well.

When would be a good time to watch this?
4/20.

Where does it take place?
Clark County...it was on a bus sign...

Why did I decide to watch this?
It was 4/20 and I hadn't seen it since it was in theaters.

How did I like this?
I didn't have high (hehe) hopes that this movie would hold up all these years later, but I did find myself laughing. I was mildly stoned, but still. It has some hilarious quotes and is still pretty entertaining.

Where does it take place?
Space, on the way to Mars in 2049.

Why did I decide to watch this?
It looked super adorable. I like Lana Condor. SPACE!

How did I like this?
It was a ton of fun! Highly improbable and erratic, but charming. It was not at all what I was expecting, but I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I want to go to Mars. Not for love. Just for fun.

When you have 8ish hours to sit and enjoy.

Where does it take place?
Regency England, of course.

Why did I decide to watch this?
Because I enjoyed the books and the first season.

How did I like this?
I loved it! No surprise there. I think they did a great job with Kate and Edwina's relationship and family circumstance. I also loved getting so much Eloise! The Featheringtons continued to crack me up.

It does drag near the end, but overall I thought it was a solid season. I was more invested in Eloise and Penelope's friendship than Kate and Anthony though.

When would be a good time to watch this?
Whenever you have 2 hours for an emotional rollercoaster.

Where does it take place?
Toronto, Canada.

Why did I decide to watch this?
Because it's Pixar.

How did I like this?
I'll admit that I was not excited for this one. The previews did nothing for me. But I loved how this one definitely stepped out of the squeak clean Disney-Pixar box. It deals with some major topics! INCLUDING PERIODS!!! Meilin's mom goes all out when she thinks Meilin has become a woman!

It did a lot of things wonderfully, and it's cute, but I didn't cry. But I am now a 4-Town fan, because A+ soundtrack.
