It's not as good as the other three and I absolutely think that has to do with the change of actress. She didn't feel like Marnie at all. It's still a fun movie, but just didn't fit with the others.

Have you seen Return to Halloweentown? What did you think?
If not, would you watch it?

I don't remember the first time, but I watch it every Halloween.

How did I like this?
It's so freaking cute and cheesy in the best possible way! You always know something big is up when you're banned from Halloween for no reason! Halloweentown seems like such a fun place to visit (after the evil has been vanquished, of course) and it's such an odd contrast to the Halloweentown in The Nightmare Before Christmas.

Where does it take place?
A haunted house...

Why did I decide to watch this?
It's Halloweentime, it's on Netflix, and we needed some entertainment while getting my hair done.

How did I like this?
It's super cheesy, but mostly in a good way. There were definitely some true LOL moments, even if the jokes were recycled and a lot of this relied on stereotypes.

Hubie Halloween (2020)

Title: Hubie Halloween
Rating: PG-13
Run Time: 1 hour 42 minutes
Release Date: October 7, 2020
Genre(s): Comedy
Production Co.: Happy Madison Productions
Director: Steven Brill
Starring: Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Julie Bowen

Who would I recommend this to?
Adam Sandler fans who love Halloween.

What is this about?
The typical Adam Sandler character with a speech impediment who is mocked by the whole town becomes the hero that they need.

When would be a good time to watch this?
Halloween.

Where does it take place?
Salem, Massachusetts.

Why did I decide to watch this?
Because it's a new Halloween movie that's not scary.

How did I like this?
Is every single actor who has worked with Adam Sandler in this movie?! Geez.

This is oddly boring. I was not expecting that. I thought if I didn't like it it would be because of over-the-top humor that didn't resonate with me. Instead, it's just not funny or interesting until over an hour in. The one funny 'cause it's true thing was every girl and woman dressing as Harley Quinn.

Dracula is lonely; perhaps it's time for him to start dating? Mavis thinks he's stressed from working too much so she plans a cruise!

When would be a good time to watch this?
After the second one, and not even during just Halloween. This is a feel-good summer movie!

Where does it take place?
The Bermuda Triangle, of course!

Why did I decide to watch this?
Because I had just watched the other two.

How did I like this?
While the previous movie tried really hard to make kids laugh, this one had plenty of adult jokes! The witches and Vlad! The chupacabra! That said, the plot was really predictable, but it was super fun and cute.

Hotel Transylvania 2 (2015)

Title: Hotel Transylvania 2
Rating: PG
Run Time: 1 hour 29 minutes
Release Date: September 25, 2015
Genre(s): Fantasy, Animation
Production Co.: Columbia Pictures
Director: Genndy Tartakovsky
Starring: Adam Sandler, Andy Samberg, Selena Gomez

Who would I recommend this to?
Fans of wholesome family fun involving vampires and Adam Sandler.

What is this about?
Mavis and Jonathan got married, had a baby, and Daddy Dracula still doesn't want to let his baby go!

When would be a good time to watch this?
After the first one, but before the third one. At Halloweentime.

Where does it take place?
Dracula's castle!

Why did I decide to watch this?
I originally watched it when it first came out because I liked the first one.

How did I like this?
Did they steal one of the triplets from Brave?! And I find the decision to make a children's movie about parenting questionable. Sure, it's good for a few laughs, but I just don't like this plot. It's not necessarily bad...I just don't care. Mavis trying Slurpees is hilarious, but Dracula trying so hard to make his grandson a monster was just...bleh bleh bleh.

Too many gags and forced jokes. That seems to be a trend in sequels for kids. BUT...I did like it better than I did the first time. It does have a special charm.

If not, would you watch it?

Hotel Transylvania (2012)

Title: Hotel Transylvania
Rating: PG
Run Time: 1 hour 31 minutes
Release Date: September 28, 2012
Genre(s): Animation, Fantasy
Production Co.: Columbia Pictures
Director: Genndy Tartakovsky
Starring: Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Andy Samberg

Who would I recommend this to?
Fans of silly vampires, or vampires in general.

What is this about?
Dracula's only daughter wants to go out into the world, but her dad is paranoid about humans. Especially when a boy shows up at the castle right before Mavis's birthday party.

When would be a good time to watch this?
Halloween, obviously.

Where does it take place?
Dracula's castle.

Why did I decide to watch this?
I saw it was back in the day, because vampires. Duh. Now, it's time for Halloween!

How did I like this?
I seriously did not remember a single thing about this movie from the first time I saw it. But it's super cute! It's fun to see Dracula in a new way. Instead of being one of the most feared monsters, he's the most scared monster!

It made me cry?! I mean, most movies make me cry, but I didn't expect it from this one.

Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween (2018)

Title: Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween
Rating: PG
Run Time: 1 hour 30 minutes
Release Date: October 12, 2018
Genre(s): Fantasy, Adventure
Production Co.: Columbia Pictures
Director: Ari Sandel
Starring: Wendi McLendon-Covey, Madison Iseman, Jeremy Ray Taylor

Who would I recommend this to?
The two people who liked the first movie...

What is this about?
Some kids are cleaning out an abandoned house and find the book...unleashing the evil within!

When would be a good time to watch this?
The title gives you a hint...

Where does it take place?
Somewhere in New York, I think.

Why did I decide to watch this?
Because I had just watch the first one. It couldn't get worse, right?

How did I like this?
First of all, if something is on sale as two-for-one, you buy TWO! It's the same price as the single. Especially if what you're buying is adult diapers for a nursing home...Random...I know, but not really.

Other than that, this one does have a more solid plot and better acting despite being all unknowns. It's still not great, but it was a lot more fun and engaging. It had more of a Jumanji vibe, which was cool.

Goosebumps (2015)

Title: Goosebumps
Rating: PG
Run Time: 1 hour 43 minutes
Release Date: October 14, 2015
Genre(s): Fantasy, Adventure
Production Co.: Columbia Pictures
Director: Rob Letterman
Starring: Jack Black, Dylan Minnette, Odeya Rush

Who would I recommend this to?
Those of us who didn't grow up reading Goosebumps and/or Fear Street.

What is this about?
The Goosebumps books are real! OMG! This movie is quite meta...

When would be a good time to watch this?
Halloween time, duh.

Where does it take place?
Madison, Delaware.

Why did I decide to watch this?
Because I was obsessed with the books and the show and the straight-to-video specials and just generally all things Goosebumps.

How did I like this?
First impression, I don't like Jack Black in this. It didn't feel like a good fit for him. The teen actors were great though.

It didn't hold my attention at all. It was missing the creepy factor that makes the books so lovable. The dummies in Toy Story 4 were more unsettling than this.

Now I want to read some old Goosebumps books...

Run Time: 1 hour 26 minutes
Release Date: June 16, 2012
Genre(s): Sci-Fi
Production Co.: New Horizons Picture
Director: Jim Wynorski
Starring: Rib Hillis, Michael Madsen, Terri Ivens

Who would I recommend this to?
Umm....myself, honestly.

What is this about?
A couple of half-piranha half-anaconda creatures hunt down the scientist who stole their egg!

When would be a good time to watch this?
Umm...I use to just randomly watch it for funsies...or Halloween.

Where does it take place?
Hawaii.

Why did I decide to watch this?
Because it was the next "big" SyFy film after Sharktopus which is my all-time favorite.

How did I like this?
It's not as good as Sharktopus (honestly, what is?), but that theme song? Super catchy. And there's actually a decent plot and motivation here.

I'm sure you all know what to expect from a SyFy movie. If you love the cheesiness and shaky camera action complete with fake blood splatters, this movie is for you. If you don't...why not!?

Where does it take place?
Disneyland and Disney World.

Why did I decide to watch this?
Because I am a Disney fanatic and absolutely love the parks during Halloween! I'm actually there now...

How did I like this?
Just like with the Christmas edition, I was tearing up. Disney parks really are the most magical places on Earth. It's super sad that Disneyland and Disney Cruise Lines won't be decorated this year, and Disney World is only partially decked out.

Director: Tim Burton

When would be a good time to watch this?
When you need a Halloween laugh.

Where does it take place?
A house in New England?

Why did I decide to watch this?
I actually think I watched the cartoon before I knew about the movie. I wasn't born yet when either premiered, but I spent a lot of time watching Nickelodeon.

How did I like this?
This movie so fun. The iconic waiting room! Love it! I have legit tried to summon Betelgeuse before, because obviously. He'd made life more interesting.

Lydia also speaks to my soul. I myself am strange and unusual. Her stepmom is great too.

Casper (1995)

Title: Casper
Rating: PG
Run Time: 1 hour 40 minutes
Release Date: May 26, 1995
Genre(s): Fantasy
Production Co.: Universal Pictures
Director: Brad Silberling
Starring: Bill Pullman, Christina Ricci, Cathy Moriarty

Who would I recommend this to?
Everyone.

What is this about?
Casper, a friendly ghost, befriends a girl when she and her father move into his house.

When would be a good time to watch this?
Halloweentime! Or a '90s movie night...

Where does it take place?
Whipstaff Manor in Maine.

Why did I decide to watch this?
I don't remember my first time watching it, because I was probably 5 or 6, but I remember watching it a lot because it's awesome.

How did I like this?
I always forget about the con-artist plot of this movie. For me, it's all about Casper and Kat and the treasure! Although I suppose the whole plot is about the "treasure" and finding Kat's dead mother.

Despite such a dark plot, this movie is super funny and cute. And every tween girl in '95 wanted a cute boy to say "Can I keep you?" to her. And we all wanted a Whipstaff Manor ride, but probably minus the shaving cream.

Who would I recommend this to?
Fans of Tim Burton, Johnny Depp, Christina Ricci, and the Headless Horseman.

What is this about?
A headless horseman terrorizes a mall town.

When would be a good time to watch this?
Halloweentime.

Where does it take place?
Sleepy Hollow, New York, in 1799.

Why did I decide to watch this?
I was ten years old when it came out, and I remember watching it with my parents on Pay-Per-View. This was before I was scared of Horror movies. I've seen it countless times since then because I'm obsessed.

How did I like this?
I freaking love this movie. It cemented my crush on Johnny Depp. I think it was also the first time I made connections between movies by the same director and started my obsession with Tim Burton, since my favorite movies are Edward Scissorhands and The Nightmare Before Christmas.

It's scary without being scary which is great for me. There are a few jumpy moments, but doesn't leave you feeling like you just had a heart attack and still might die. There's blood, but it's not overly gruesome. And it's oddly funny in places. But I have that dark, macabre humor.

When would be a good time to watch this?
During Halloweentime.

Where does it take place?
England? I have no idea. And the underworld.

Why did I decide to watch this?
I saw this one opening day in theaters, because Tim Burton and Johnny Depp. I've seen it several times since then because I love Emily and Victor.

How did I like this?
It's so cute. It's not my favorite, but I do adore it. The animation is lovely. Victor and Emily and Victoria are lovely. I love love triangles, even if they're unintentional.

The songs could have been better, except Emily's song. That is heartbreaking and amazing. Just like her revenge at he end! You go, Emily!

Where does it take place?

Why did I decide to watch this?
I know I saw this movie a while ago, maybe 10-11 years ago, because my boyfriend at the time like it but I don't remember it. So I watched it again for my 32 days of Halloween marathon.

How did I like this?
This is sooo '90s! Complete with vinyl clothing, a token Black girl, and blood oaths.

Things get real, weird, and real weird real quick! I would have been obsessed with this movie if I had seen it when I was younger. I'm surprised this hasn't been remade yet; I'd watch it.

Release Date: February 1, 2013
Genre(s): Romance, Sci-Fi
Production Co.: Summit Entertainment
Director: Jonathan Levine
Starring: Nicholas Hoult, Teresa Palmer, John Malkovich

Who would I recommend this to?
Fans of cheesy teen movies and zombie romance.

What is this about?
A zombie named R starts to become human after falling in love with a human named Julie. Yes, it's Romeo and Juliet with zombies.

When would be a good time to watch this?
Date night! Valentine's Day or Halloween.

Where does it take place?
An airport after the apocalypse.

Why did I decide to watch this?
I originally wanted to read the book, but I ended up just watching the movie instead.

How did I like this?
I was so in love with this movie the first time I saw it! I completely lost interest in the book, which is weird, because books are usually better than the film adaptation. But I was scared the book would make me not like the movie as much.

I'm honestly just a sucker for unconventional romance and Romeo and Juliet themes. This one is sooo cute! It speaks to my creepy little heart. And it has Edward Scissorhands vibes, which is my all-time favorite movie.

Monster House (2006)

Run Time: 1 hour 31 minutes
Release Date: July 21, 2006
Genre(s): Animation, Adventure
Production Co.: Columbia Pictures
Director: Gil Kenan
Starring: Mitchel Musso, Sam Lerner, Spencer Locke

Who would I recommend this to?
People who like animated Halloween funtimes.

What is this about?
A house...that is...a monster...

When would be a good time to watch this?
As part of a Halloween movie marathon.

Where does it take place?
A typical American suburb.

Why did I decide to watch this?
I completely forgot this movie existed, but I've always wanted to watch it! Non-scary Halloween things are my jam.

How did I like this?

First, I don't like this animation style. It kind of made me dizzy looking at it. It's looks 3D without being 3D.

The story is a lot of fun though. It's the standard "no one believes the kids about supernatural occurrences" type plot, so lots of hijinks while they try to fight the house.

There were a lot more "adult" jokes and content than I was anticipating! That just makes it more fun.

When would be a good time to watch this?
During a no-scare Halloween marathon.

Where does it take place?
Los Angeles.

Why did I decide to watch this?
I don't even remember the first time I watched this because I was little, and my mom was watching it. But I do know it always felt like a treat when it come on.

How did I like this?
I've seen it countless times so obviously I'm obsessed. This is also the movie that made me realize that I was queer, even if I didn't have the vocabulary or self-awareness to know that then. I have very vivid memories of being entranced by Lisle and acting out this movie with my Barbies.

Anyway, I just love the dark, morbid humor in this. I've always been drawn to this kind of thing. It's also a smart commentary on how women are treated and viewed as they get older.

Why did I decide to watch this?
Because I like these movies.

How did I like this?
Another super fun installment to this series! Good girl goes bad! Bad girls team up to defeat evil! HADES!

I adored the plot of this one, but songs weren't as good as the previous two. With the exception of Audrey's.

When would be a good time to watch this?
Halloween date night. Girls night. Any night you want something sexy and creepy.

Where does it take place?
Devil's Kettle, Minnesota.

Why did I decide to watch this?
I originally saw this one in theaters because it looked great. It was a ton of fun in theaters.

How did I like this?
This movie is over-the-top ridiculous with the outdated teen-speak and I love it. It's also jumpy without being scary. I don't do scary jumpy, so this one was fun.

There's definitely some tasteless "jokes" in this movie which did not age well. Well, they were bad eleven years ago, but in today's climate, they'd never pass.

The Addams Family (2019)

Title: The Addams Family
Rating: PG
Run Time: 1 hour 26 minutes
Release Date: October 11, 2019
Genre(s): Animation
Production Co.:  Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer
Director: Greg Tiernan, Conrad Vernon
Starring: Oscar Isaac, Charlize Theron, Chloë Grace Moretz

Who would I recommend this to?
Those who are not in love with the Addams. Perhaps those who do not know who they are.

What is this about?
America's favorite creepy, kooky, mysterious, and spooky family. But animated.

When would be a good time to watch this?
Halloween-time.

Where does it take place?
New Jersey...

Why did I decide to watch this?
Because I've been obsessed with this family for practically my whole life.

How did I like this?
It's cute, but this was clearly an attempt to introduce the Addams to a new--and younger--audience. The bare minimum of the characters that I love are here, but they feel different. More family friendly.

I liked how Wednesday had her own little side plot, as she is my favorite Addams. But I did not care about Pugsley here at all. The overarching plot was the typical, you don't fit it so we'll make you or run you out of town! But without any charm.

Thing looking at foot pictures was the best thing in this movie. Holy crap! LoL

The Babysitter: Killer Queen (2020)

Title: The Babysitter: Killer Queen
Rating: TV-MA
Run Time: 1 hour 41 minutes
Release Date: September 10, 2020
Genre(s): Horror
Production Co.: Wonderland Sound and Vision
Director: McG
Starring: Judah Lewis, Samara Weaving, Jenna Ortega

Who would I recommend this to?
Fans of the first one, and people who like quirky Horror with heart.

What is this about?
Cole is still a loser, but now he's two years older and everyone thinks he made up the craziness of that night. Until it starts happening again...

When would be a good time to watch this?
After the first one. Make it a double feature.

Where does it take place?
Same place as the first one, so probably California.

Why did I decide to watch this?
Because the first one was fun and Halloween.

How did I like this?
First, the writers tried way too hard with the jokes and gags. The first one wasn't really that funny, but it was fun. They were clearly trying to one-up it. I liked this one better overall though. It had more range, since they weren't just confined to the house. Plus, plot twist!

The old crew was hilarious though. Being dead was good for them. Poor, Cole. He can't catch a break.

Release Date: October 13, 2017
Genre(s): Horror
Production Co.: New Line Cinema
Director: McG
Starring: Judah Lewis, Samara Weaving, Robbie Amell

Who would I recommend this to?
Wimps like me, who love Halloween but can't do "real" Horror films.

What is this about?
Loser boy who still has a babysitter, whom he is in love with, discovers that she's a devil-worshiping killer.

When would be a good time to watch this?
Whenever you have a little over an hour for some entertainment.

Where does it take place?
Somewhere in America. I'm assuming California because there was a possible In-n-Out reference.

Why did I decide to watch this?
It was on Netflix and my mom vetted it for me.

How did I like this?
I was shocked at the amount of blood and gore, but the actual story was quite fun and entertaining. It wastes no time! And it definitely left me guessing and nervous.

Genre(s): Musical, Drama
Production Co.: Warner Bros.
Director: Tim Burton
Starring: Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter, Alan Rickman

Who would I recommend this to?
I want to say everyone, but I know this isn't for everyone. So everyone who appreciates dark musicals.

What is this about?
There was a barber and his wife and she was beautiful...Cannibalism...

When would be a good time to watch this?
If you haven't seen it, immediately. If you have, immediately.

Where does it take place?
There's no place like London.

Why did I decide to watch this?
Originally, because I'm obsessed with Johnny Depp and Tim Burton. Subsequently, because it's effing awesome.

How did I like this?
Like I said, it's effing awesome. I am obsessed with this movie and the soundtrack. Everyone did amazing! I didn't know anything about the story before this movie, but it's so twisted! This is basically the only kind of "horror" I can handle. No jumpy bits, just some blood.

Zombie Strippers! (2008)

Title: Zombie Strippers!
Rating: R
Run Time: 1 hour 34 minutes
Release Date: September 19, 2008
Genre(s): Sci-Fi
Production Co.: Stage 6 Films
Director: Jay Lee
Starring: Jenna Jameson, Robert Englund, Roxy Saint

Who would I recommend this to?
People who like zombie movies, but not necessarily horror movies, and boobs.

What is this about?
America sucks and zombies are taking over--one strip club at a time.

When would be a good time to watch this?

Halloween date night.

Where does it take place?
Nebraska.

Why did I decide to watch this?
I mean, obviously? Zombie...strippers...

How did I like this?
Definitely heavy on the stripping! And that is not a complaint. I feel like this is actually how the zombie apocalypse would start.

Seriously though, it's a pretty low budget yet entertaining movie. Surprisingly gory though.

Z-O-M-B-I-E-S 2 (2020)

Title: Z-O-M-B-I-E-S 2
Rating: TV-G
Run Time: 1 hour 24 minutes
Release Date: April 18, 2020
Genre(s): Sci-Fi, Musical
Production Co.: Disney Channel
Director: Paul Hoen
Starring: Milo Manheim, Meg Donnelly, Trevor Tordjman

Who would I recommend this to?
Fans of the original!

What is this about?
Zombies are now fully integrated into Seabrook High (kind of), but what about werewolves

When would be a good time to watch this?
During a Halloween movie marathon to lighten things up.

Where does it take place?
The quaint town of Seabrook.

Why did I decide to watch this?
Because I adored the first movie.

How did I like this?
It didn't give me those same giddy feels, so that was a bummer. But it did have deeper issues this time around. Addison doesn't feel like she belongs, while Zed is finding his place.

The werewolves weren't as interesting as the zombies and the songs weren't as catchy. It's like the writers were trying too hard and missed the mark. BUT they did do a reprise of my favorite song from the first! So cute!
