Where does it take place?
Some high school somewhere...

Why did I decide to watch this?
I needed a Z for the A to Z Challenge.

How did I like this?
It's fun and I love this premise so much! It starts off pretty rough and the ending was like...it was almost as if the writers had no idea who to "undo" the magic and came up with that. But overall, it's a really fun movie.

Have you seen Zapped? What did you think?
If not, would you watch it?

When you have two hours to spare for some weirdness.

Where does it take place?
The universe...

Why did I decide to watch this?
I needed a W for the A to Z Challenge and it's Disney.

How did I like this?

This is another visually pleasing but boring movie. The "evil" was never anything we saw. We're just told Meg's dad needs rescuing and then they set out to rescue him.

Have you seen A Wrinkle in Time? What did you think?
If not, would you watch it?

Whenever you need background noise.

Where does it take place?
England.

Why did I decide to watch this?
I needed a V for the A to Z Challenge and it was on Disney+.

How did I like this?
I didn't really. I barely paid attention to it. War movies are not my thing, even if they're kiddie versions with talking animals.

This is another one of those movies I forgot existed until Disney+ released.

Upside-Down Magic (2020)

Title: Upside-Down Magic
Rating: PG
Run Time: 1 hour 36 minutes
Release Date: July 31, 2020
Genre(s): Fantasy, Adventure

Fans of DCOMs.

What is this about?
A school for magical kids.

When would be a good time to watch this?
Whenevers.

Where does it take place?
Sage Academy.

Why did I decide to watch this?
I needed a U for the A to Z Challenge and it's on Disney+.

How did I like this?
It's fun and cute, but super predictable and simplistic. I wish more thought had gone into what happens to the wonky magic kids, instead of just sticking them in a basement to rot.

Of course it has the overall message of your differences are what makes you awesome, which is always nice.

Tom & Jerry (2021)

Title: Tom & Jerry
Rating: PG
Run Time: 1 hour 41 minutes

When would be a good time to watch this?
When it becomes available again.

Where does it take place?
New York City.

Why did I decide to watch this?
Because I like Tom & Jerry.

How did I like this?
It's cute! It's not a kids' movie though; the plot is too adult. I thought it was a fun touch that all of the animals were animated, even the birds and butterflies.

At times it felt like two movies happening at once: Tom & Jerry plus Kayla saving the wedding.

Have you seen Tom & Jerry? What did you think?
If not, would you watch it?

The Swap (2016)

A teen boy and girl magically switch bodies after saying the other has it easier.

When would be a good time to watch this?
Whenever you have an hour and a half for some family fun.

Where does it take place?
Somewhere....

Why did I decide to watch this?
I needed an S for the A to Z Challenge and this looked cute.

How did I like this?
Honestly, if you've seen one body-swap movie, you've seen them all. Luckily, I'm a fan and thought this one was really cute.

Since it is by Disney, it's clean, with no gross body groping. In fact, Jack goes out of his way to make sure he respects Ellie's body while he's inhabiting it, which was really nice.

When would be a good time to watch this?
If you must...

Where does it take place?
Walt Disney Animation Studio.

Why did I decide to watch this?
I needed an R for the A to Z Challenge and it's Disney.

How did I like this?
This is one of those "movies" that doesn't translate well into today's audience. I enjoyed seeing Goofy as he's meant to be (not this scary swamp monster of new) and it was a creative way to show how the cartoons come to life

Thankfully there is a dragon.

Qlimax: The Source (2020)

What is this about?
It's a visual musical journey.

When would be a good time to watch this?
When you're in the mood for something weird.

Where does it take place?
The six realms.

Why did I decide to watch this?

I needed a Q for the A to Z Challenge and I was q-urious....

How did I like this?
This is absolutely not my thing, but I knew that going into it. The strobe effects are too much (for me), but I did enjoy some of the music. I mostly kept it as background noise while working to ignore the dizzying visuals but still listen.

Have you seen Qlimax: The Source? What did you think?

Penguins (2019)

Title: Penguins
Rating: G
Run Time: 1 hour 16 minutes

Who would I recommend this to?
Penguin lovers.

What is this about?
Penguin breeding.

When would be a good time to watch this?
When you have an hour to learn about penguin mating.

Where does it take place?
Antarctica.

Why did I decide to watch this?
I like penguins.

How did I like this?
I think the story-line they did for this one was super cute: Steve the awkward penguin and new dad! But the actual footage and events are like every single penguin documentary ever. If you've seen one, you've seen 'em all.

I can't even remember if I've seen March of the Penguins, but I feel like I have and that they did it better...

When you have time to lift your spirits. And cry a little.

Where does it take place?
The moon and China.

Why did I decide to watch this?
I needed an O for the A to Z Challenge and had heard great things about it.

How did I like this?
Why do they always kill the mom?! During the opening song?!

The animation is super pretty. The songs are top-notch (Ultra Luminary is my new jam). The characters are lovable.

The Nutcracker and the Four Realms (2018)

Title: The Nutcracker and the Four Realms
Rating: PG
Run Time: 1 hour 39 minutes
Release Date: November 2, 2018
Genre(s): Fantasy, Adventure
Production Co.: Walt Disney Pictures
Director: Lasse Hallström, Joe Johnston
Starring: Mackenzie Foy, Keira Knightley, Morgan Freeman

Who would I recommend this to?
I don't know...this fits a very specific audience.

What is this about?
A girl travels into a magical world and must save its residents from evil.

When would be a good time to watch this?
Christmastime.

Where does it take place?
The Four Realms.

Why did I decide to watch this?
I needed an N for the A to Z Challenge.

How did I like this?
I found this movie quite boring. I love the set design, but I was not interested in the plot at all. And I'm scared of clowns, sooo....

Keira Knightley's acting is atrocious. She was so over-the-top and obvious, there was so subtlety. Just stamp LIAR onto her character's forehead.

Mary Poppins Returns (2018)

Release Date: December 19, 2018
Genre(s): Fantasy, Drama, Musical
Production Co.: Walt Disney Pictures
Director: Rob Marshall

Who would I recommend this to?
Whoever likes Mary Poppins.

What is this about?
A magical nanny helps a family save their house.

When would be a good time to watch this?
Whenever you need something to do for two hours.

Where does it take place?
London.

Why did I decide to watch this?
I needed an M for the A to Z Challenge and it's Disney.

How did I like this?
It's better than I thought it would be. I'm not a big fan of the original so I had pretty low expectations. I don't like most of the songs though; the original does win on that front.

The kids are annoying, but the villain is pretty good. He's realistic which is the scariest kind.

Have you seen Mary Poppins Returns? What did you think?
If not, would you watch it?

Lady and the Tramp 2: Scamp's Adventure (2001)

Genre(s): Animation, Fantasy, Musical, Romance
Production Co.: Walt Disney Pictures

Who would I recommend this to?
Fans of the original and dog movies in general.

What is this about?
A house puppy longs to be a street dog until he meets a street dog who longs for a family.

When would be a good time to watch this?
Whenever you have an hour for something cute.

Where does it take place?
New England, somewhere based on that opening song.

Why did I decide to watch this?
Because I liked the first one and needed an L for the A to Z Challenge.

How did I like this?
This was such a pleasant surprise! The animation and plot were much better compared to other sequels. Unfortunately the songs are still terrible. I could have done without them and just enjoyed this adorable story of puppy love.

Kazaam (1996)

Title: Kazaam
Rating: PG
Run Time: 1 hour 33 minutes
Release Date: July 17, 1996
Genre(s): Fantasy, Comedy
Production Co.: Touchstone Pictures
Director: Paul Michael Glaser
Starring: Shaquille O'Neal, Francis Capra, Ally Walker

Who would I recommend this to?
Anyone who doesn't take things too seriously.

What is this about?
A boy finds a rapping genie and his long lost music executive father.

When would be a good time to watch this?
When you need some high quality 90s entertainment.

Where does it take place?
New York.

Why did I decide to watch this?
I know I was totally obsessed with this movie as a kid and had to watch it as my K for the A to Z challenge!

How did I like this?
This movie is totally as great as I remembered. I have such a soft spot for mid-90s movies since I was old enough to actually remember that time, but still young enough that of course it was awesome. There's no way something like this would get made to day, and not just because of the questionable aspects of it. I mean, basketball player turned actor turned rapper playing a rapping genie? Genius.

And it has a lot of heart.

Have you seen Kazaam? What did you think?
If not, would you watch it?

Pocahontas 2: Journey to a New World (1998)

Title: Pocahontas 2: Journey to a New World
Rating: G
Run Time: 1 hour 12 minutes
Release Date: August 25, 1998
Genre(s): Animation, Biography, Musical
Production Co.: Walt Disney Pictures
Director: Tom Ellery, Bradley Raymond
Starring: Irene Bedard, Donal Gibson, Jim Cummings

Who would I recommend this to?
No one, really. Unless you're doing research for something...

What is this about?
Pocahontas travels to England to negotiate peace for her people.

When would be a good time to watch this?
During research for poor representation in film.

Where does it take place?
England.

Why did I decide to watch this?
Because I've been putting it off for 20+ years.

How did I like this?
I think I liked this as much as I did because I had such low expectations. Don't get me wrong, it's not a good movie, but I found that I enjoyed it. Mostly because I liked how Pocahontas wasn't going to let the white man make a fool of her and kill her people.

The songs are bad with the exception of the first one and the one during the credits. This could have done without the musical element. We all know it was never going to compare with the original.

I can't speak to the historical accuracy or how Disney was trying to make up for the first movie, but we all know the answer to that.

Have you seen Pocahontas 2? What did you think?

A science geek applies physics to figure skating.

When would be a good time to watch this?
When you need a dose of family friendly girl power.

Where does it take place?
Dover, Connecticut.

Why did I decide to watch this?
I'm pretty sure I saw this in theaters. Disney, princess in the title, sparkly costumes, duh.

How did I like this?
This movie was ahead of its time in many ways. A geeky girl who isn't tormented! Girls supporting girls! Varying views on feminism! No boy drama! Yes, there's kissing, of course.

Have you seen Ice Princess? What did you think?
If not, would you watch it?

The Hunchback of Notre Dame II (2002)

Title: The Hunchback of Notre Dame II
Rating: G
Run Time: 1 hour 8 minutes
Release Date: March 19, 2002
Genre(s): Animation, Fantasy, Romance, Musical
Production Co.: Disney Television Animation
Director: Bradley Raymond
Starring: Jason Alexander, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Tom Hulce

Who would I recommend this to?
Fans of straight to video sequels.

What is this about?
Quasimodo has found love, or is she a liar and a thief?!

When would be a good time to watch this?
Whenever, take your time.

Where does it take place?
Paris, France.

Why did I decide to watch this?
Because I hadn't seen it before and why not...

How did I like this?
It's not terrible. It's actually pretty cute at times. The songs aren't good though, and this villain cannot even compare to the epic evil of Judge Frollo. But this is meant to be rather light-hearted to give Quasi his happily ever after.

It's certainly better than other Disney straight to video sequels.

Have you seen The Hunchback of Notre Dame II? What did you think?

What is this about?
A group of guinea pigs help the FBI take down a global terrorist.

When would be a good time to watch this?
Whenever.

Where does it take place?
Los Angeles.

Why did I decide to watch this?
Because I needed a G for the A to Z Blogging Challenge. I totally forgot this movie existed until Disney+ came into being.

How did I like this?
It's really fun!

The one thing that bothered me was that the black guinea pig is stereotypically Black and the girl guinea pig is stereotypically objectified. Can we not, please?

Have you seen G-Force? What did you think?
If not, would you watch it?

Spain.

Why did I decide to watch this?
Because it looked exactly like something I'd enjoy.

How did I like this?
It is so cute and funny and mildly inappropriate and kind of heart breaking and...cute. Ferdinand is such a sweetie.

Elephant (2020)

Title: Elephant
Rating: G
Run Time: 1 hour 26 minutes
Release Date: April 3, 2020
Genre(s): Documentary
Production Co.: Disneynature
Director: Mark Linfield, Vanessa Berlowitz
Starring: Meghan Markle

Who would I recommend this to?
People who like nature documentaries and elephants.

What is this about?
The great Kalahari elephant water migration.

When would be a good time to watch this?
When you're in need of some edu-tainment.

Where does it take place?
The Kalahari Desert.

Why did I decide to watch this?
Because I like these documentaries.

How did I like this?
I cried through most of the second half, so that's good. It's definitely happier than I thought it was going to be though, because I was expecting this to expand on the elephant segment from Earth. It kind of does, since it's also about the migration, but it left out the baby that got separated from the herd which made me cry so hard I got a headache. I'm glad this wasn't that.

Dolphin Reef (2018)

Title: Dolphin Reef
Rating: G
Run Time: 1 hour 17 minutes
Release Date: April 3, 2018
Genre(s): Documentary
Production Co.: Disneynature
Director: Keith Scholey, Alastair Fothergill
Starring: Natalie Portman

Who would I recommend this to?
Those who enjoy nature documentaries.

What is this about?
The creatures who live in coral reefs, not just dolphins.

When would be a good time to watch this?
When you want some edu-tainment.

Where does it take place?
Pacific Ocean.

Why did I decide to watch this?
Because I like these documentaries.

How did I like this?
It's not my favorite from the series, since it didn't really have a focused "story" and the stories it did have were recycled from Oceans.

The underwater shots are gorgeous though. Even that highly dramatized and creepy sea turtle graveyard.

Have you seen Dolphin Reef? What did you think?

Run Time: 1 hour 44 minutes
Release Date: August 3, 2018
Genre(s): Fantasy, Drama
Production Co.: Walt Disney Pictures
Director: Marc Forster
Starring: Ewan McGregor, Hayley Atwell, Bronte Carmichael

Who would I recommend this to?
People who need to remember how to smile once in a while.

What is this about?
An imaginative boy grows up into a miserable man until old friends remind him how to smile again.

When would be a good time to watch this?
Whenever you have a spare two hours.

Where does it take place?
London and the Hundred Acre Wood.

Why did I decide to watch this?
I love Winnie the Pooh. I put this movie off for three years despite pre-ordering the DVD because the previews creeped me out. Now it's A to Z Blogging time again...

How did I like this?
I loved the first half of this movie. Grumpy Christopher Robin and bumbling Pooh Bear was just delightful. The foggy Hundred Acre Wood was also intriguing. I would have happily watched two hours of that.

The second half was more formulaic and less charming. Still good, but it was missing that special something of the beginning. Plus I still hate the way Tigger and Eeyore look. They're creepy as heck. And the voice of Piglet was super off.

Where does it take place?
New York and a cross-country trip.

Why did I decide to watch this?
I had honestly forgot this movie existed, and kept adding it to my A-Z Challenge list.

How did I like this?
I feel dumb for not watching this years ago! It's so fun and funny! Bolt and Mittens are a great team! The plot is unique and exciting!

Release Date: May 20, 2003
Genre(s): Animation, Fantasy, Adventure
Production Co.: Disney Television Animation
Director: Victor Cook, Toby Shelton
Starring: James Arnold Taylor, Cree Summer, John Mahoney

Who would I recommend this to?
Not Kida fans.

What is this about?
Kida, Milo, and the crew investigate possible Atlantic connections on the surface.

When would be a good time to watch this?
After the first one, so you can appreciate the original even more.

Where does it take place?
All over.

Why did I decide to watch this?
I was very pleasantly surprised by how good the first one was.

How did I like this?
It immediately rubbed me the wrong way with how stupid they made Kida. Of course she doesn't know much about the world outside of Atlantis, but forcing her to misunderstand every single one of Milo's explanations wasn't funny or cute. Kida is a smart, powerful woman and I believe she'd learn quickly, even if she thinks things are ridiculous.

I totally wasn't expecting the Norse mythology twist, which was actually pretty cool. And Kida looked hot dressed like a viking.
