Who would I recommend this to?
Fans of the first movie.

What is this about?
Aurora and Phillip are getting married, so his parents want to meet her godmother. But then things go badly, and the queen declares war on the fae.

When would be a good time to watch this?
Whenever you are in the mood for a pretty, atmospheric fantasy film.

Where does it take place?
Ulstead and the Moors.

Why did I decide to watch this?
Because my mom and I really liked the first one.

How did I like this?
It took a bit longer for me to get into it, but once the action started, I was hooked. I loved seeing more fae like Maleficent. Of course, the messages about prejudices and unconditional love were spot on. I was annoyed with Aurora, but she pulls through at the end. Aside from that, it's also a pretty movie.

Yes, I cried.

Have you seen Maleficent: Mistress of Evil? What did you think?
If not, would you watch it?

Degrassi - Season 10 (2010-2011)

This post is going to contain spoilers for this season, and possibly later seasons if I make references to future events.

 The Boiling Point

What a Girl Wants (1-2)

Summer has come to an end, and a new school year is starting. Declan and Fiona are staying in New York, while Holly J heads back to Degrassi. Declan and Holly are still going strong and plan to make the long distance thing work until they go to Harvard together next year.Holly returns home to find moving boxes in her room. Turns out, her parents have lost all of the money, so they sold the house and are moving into an apartment. What about Yale!?

Meanwhile, Fiona is officially dating Bobby, who seems perfect for her at first. But soon his behavior becomes troublesome and increasingly violent. She covers up the bruises at first. When she starts pulling away from Bobby, her family all thinks she's being dramatic and having another episode. It all comes crashing down when Bobby actually throws her down the stairs

Back at Degrassi, Dave is running for Grade 10 Representative and still trying to win Alli over. He has Connor help him put together a ranking of all the girls in school with Alli as #1, but there's a glitch and she's #42. We all know Alli wants to be hot and popular, so she's annoyed rather than interested.

And Sav is encouraged to run for student president by his family. Against Holly J. He had planned to just keep a low profile, not that all of his friends and band-mates have graduated, but maybe he has a chance? At least until Holly J does what Holly J does best, uses private information to her advantage. She convinces Anya to pretend to be pregnant to get Sav out of the running. Anya uses this as a way to get back together with him. Stop making bad choices, Anya! I love you, but noooo!

Breakaway (1-2)

Fiona confides in Declan about Bobby's abuses. Being the protective older brother he offers to take care of it, but Fiona decides to handle it herself. By falling into old patterns. She makes some fake bruises and posts the pictures online. It's so sad that women aren't believed about abuse. Yes, the pictures were fake, but that's because the real bruises had already faded. It still happened. She needs to get away from New York, and convinces her mom to let her move back to Toronto.

Jenna overhears Clare telling Alli about her upcoming surgery and assumes it's for breast implants! Another episode about the perils of eavesdropping and gossip. Of course, the boys want to find out if it's true, so Wesley is on the case! He asks to touch them, and well, that is the ultimate case of misunderstanding. Poor Wesley. But enter...ELI!!! YES YES YES!!!

Anya comes clean about her fake pregnancy after the whole school starts talking about it (Thanks, Holly J). Sav is surprisingly cool about their treacherous plot, but also relieve at not being a teen dad. In a surprise twist, Sav uses the pregnancy to his advantage to get more votes for school president. Nice try, Holly J. The school wants to throw them a baby shower, so the two need to come clean. Instead, Anya fakes a miscarriage. Why couldn't they just say it was a false positive?! That's much cleaner. Still lying, but better than admitting to lying? At least they're still together...until Sav once again refuses to tell his mom about them. These two never learn.

Holly J is still stressing about getting into Yale, especially now that she can't put student council president on her application. Ms. Sauve suggests getting a SAT tutor to make sure she gets a great score, but she can't afford it. At least until she steals Fiona's credit card information. Holly J, that is low even for you. If she had just asked, Fiona would have helped her out!

99 Problems (1-2)

Riley and Zane dated all summer, but now it's back to the real world. Or just high school, where Riley is the star quarter back and can't be gay. But now, new guy Drew might steal his position, so what does that leave Riley with? Not with a hot boyfriend when locker room talk starts and Riley doesn't stick up for him, and Drew overhears Riley talking to Zane. I forgot that Drew started out as a jerkface. In fact, Zane is the only nonjerk in this episode. He's so comfortable with who he is, Riley is putting up a facade, Drew wants to be the star, and Owen is just mean.

Alli doesn't want to be bored this year, so she tries out for the Power Squad. It's much harder than it looks, and she doesn't make the cut. She feels like she doesn't fit in anywhere, which is so relatable. I had friends, but I didn't have a "thing" in high school either. Clare suggests that Alli could start her own club to find the friends what she desperately wants. That also doesn't go quite as she expected, since she took her dance crew too seriously and killed the fun for everyone.

Jenna encourages KC to try out for football, but then she doesn't like the attention that he receives from the other cheerleaders. Hold on to your man, Jenna! So she does what any good girlfriend does...she goes through his phone! DO NOT DO THIS! But what she finds is even more shocking than him cheating, it's his mother.

Better Off Alone (1-2)

KC's mother shows up at a game! Jenna encourages him to talk to her, but he wants nothing to do with her. But now he's being removed from the group home, because he's no longer parentless. Is this really the best thing for KC? He's doing awesome in school, he's on the football team, he has a girlfriend and great friends. Will living his mother, a former junkie, ruin that for him? He doesn't want to risk it, so he wants to frame her for giving him drugs. He scraps that idea, but starts acting out at school. His mom is totally there for him though.

Clare gets a C on a writing assignment! The audacity! She assigns Eli to be her writing partner, and thus begins one of Degrassi's most epic couples. It also marks the beginning of the end of Clare's parents. She notices them fighting, but her mom won't say why. Eli encourages Clare to channel her feelings into her writing.

Alli has her eyes on Drew. Of course she does. She goes to a party with Dave and proposes a game of "Never Have I Ever" which gets her and Drew nearly naked real quick. And making out. I completely forgot about this too. Drew was with everybody at some point! Dang, boy! Alli assumes the kiss means they're dating.

I Just Don't Know What to Do With Myself (1-2)

Sav wins some concert tickets and backstage  passes, but his father won't let him go. However, he does convince his father to lend his the new truck for a contest to give away the tickets and earn the student council some money. Of course, the truck gets damaged, because that's just Sav's luck. He makes a little progress with his parents, and then takes a few steps back. But it gets worse when Sav decides that he's going to the concert and he's taking the truck so he can get Eli and Adam there as well. Sav and his sister are both super smart but also super dumb. At least he got some new friends out of it.

Jenna doesn't fit into her new Power Squad uniform! Now she thinks that she's fat and starts taking diet pills. That is not safe! And I'm pretty sure she's already pregnant at this point? But she learns a valuable lesson, and just orders a new uniform.

Fiona is now alone since her mom returned to New York. She has all of these plans for her and Holly J, but Holly J has work, studying, and all kinds of commitments. Fiona tells her therapist about this, and comes to the conclusion that she throws money at her problems and is trying to buy companionship. She's definitely not wrong, especially since she ends up buying a pet pig. A very cute pig, who quickly destroys her apartment.

Try Honesty (1-2)

Holly J lets Declan know that she's coming to tour Yale with him and he doesn't seem too happy about it. Maybe because he's cheating! Aside from that, Holly J comes to realize that she was making all of these plans to follow Declan rather than finding out what she actually wants to do. But all it takes is one grand gesture and she falls right back in line. Although things get questionable when he offers her an allowance instead of her taking an after school job. He also tries to throw money at all of her problems. I like money, but that is not the way to a stable relationship.

Wesley and Connor want to get girlfriends. Dave isn't too excited about this plan since all of his attempts to woo Alli failed. Their plan is to start a band to get girls to notice them. Connor and Wesley are surprisingly talented, but Dave is not. Luckily autotune exists, and Dave is upset that he needed it. But they're awesome after a little tweaking, and the guys are having a good time.

Why couldn't Eli pull into the next parking space where Fitz wasn't standing? Oh, because we needed another plot. I have no thoughts on this other than this just the beginning of Eli's troubling behavior. This little "war" really serves no other purpose, than showing that Eli goes too far.

You Don't Know My Name (1-2)

Alli wants a label for her and Drew, but he convinces her that labels are bad and they're above labels. As we know, Alli doesn't give up on boys that easily. She will do anything in her power to get them together officially, even do his assignments. Mr. Perino is no dummy and realizes the essay doesn't sound like Drew, so Alli admits to writing it. Alli continues to be book smart and boy dumb. But then Drew tries to date Marisol and realizes that she's just dumb, making him realize that Alli is a much better choice. Drew is the dumb one here, but he comes around.

Sav is upset because the Band Slam was cancelled, so Holly J proposes a dance to get some fun back into the school year. The two are spending a lot of time together because of student council, but Fiona thinks there's something more there. Another couple that I 100% forgot was a thing. They kind of make sense, but also...no. I'm all about Sanya, even if they have some serious issues, as does Dolly, but they work. But I do like Holly J and Sav's temporary arrangement. Why not have some fun during their Senior year?

Connor's first plot since his diagnosis. He's hooked on a game which is keeping him from sleeping, but it's more than just the game. He's met a girl in it who he feels understands him. Dave and Wesley convince him to meet this mysterious girl to take her to the dance, but it turns out that she is a grown woman. Yep, Degrassi does internet predators again! I'm not complaining, because it's an ongoing issue. And I think using Connor for this plot is extra interesting.

My Body is a Cage (1-2)

We finally find out that Adam is transgender. He wants to be put into regular gym class, but his mom worries about the other students targeting him. In the same breath, she asks him to go back to being "Grace" because grandma is coming to dinner. Audra is doing her best, but no. But one perk of remedial gym is getting to dance with Bianca. Until she reveals his binder to the school and calls him a freak. Thus the bullying starts. Fitz and Owen are the absolute worst pieces of crap. But Drew is kind of a jerk, proves that he's an excellent big brother and a crap fighter. This episode also covers self harm, as Clare catches Adam burning himself when he's dressed as Grace.

Dave wants a better grade, but Ms. Oh is one tough cookie. So he heads to social media to find out what she likes so she can butter her up a bit. Major fail. Literally and figuratively. Just do the work, Dave!

Anya thinks her mom is having an affair because she disappears and leaves her wedding ring at home. But, she's been going to the hospital and getting an MRI. Turns out she has cancer. Needless to say, this distracts Anya from her school work including a project with Sav and Holly J. Of course, Holly J assume Anya found out about them and is upset. Anya tells her the truth.

Tears Dry on Their Own (1-2)

Jenna continues to struggle with her weight and some sickness, and Alli points out that she might be pregnant. But Jenna cannot be pregnant right now. She has an audition for a reality talent show! Which she blows when she gets sick, but KC tells her to get back in there! She rocks it, but can she be a pregnant teen star? Is her perfect boyfriend going to continue to be so supportive? The answer to both of these is NO.

Is teen pregnancy really as common as Degrassi makes it out to be? Probably in some places, yeah. But it's good that they're covering all kinds of different situations and outcomes.

Connor is still talking to that lady in the game and says she's not a creep. She's his friend. He even goes out to meet her, but Dave and Wesley do some sleuthing to find him and save him. Mr. Simpson takes away his computer privileges to keep him safe. Connor doesn't see it that way though and finds a way to meet up with his "friend." But once she starts suggesting that they get intimate, Connor is smart enough to get out of there.

Riley wants to hang out with Zane, but he's still refusing until "Football Riley" and "Gay Riley" are one person. He doesn't really want to hang out with the football team, so he reunites with Anya and is there for her while she goes through her mom's treatment. They both are crushing on Dr. Chris and set out to find out if he's gay or not.

Still Fighting It (1-2)

Riley still cannot win with Zane, but he wants to make an effort. So he goes to a GSA meeting with him, where Riley shares how he feels about the locker room heckling. This inspires Riley to take a stand and use his power as team captain to make the boys stop. He also takes things too far as his anger returns, but I can't even blame him because Owen is the worst. It's hard to believe he has a gay brother. But ultimately Riley does the right thing, and I love Zane's smile.

Clare wants to date Eli, but he isn't making a move! Adam encourages her to make the first move, and their upcoming project may just be that move. Or maybe not, since he starts ignoring her afterward. Clare asks Adam to find out what's going on, but he already knows. I remember being shocked by Eli's deep dark secret, but now it seems kind of...I don't even know.

Wesley has a crush on Anya and it's adorable. He asks her to add him to the bachelor auction list and secretly hopes that she bids on him. He just needs a boost, so he offers to tutor Drew in exchange for his help with girls. I just love Wesley. He is so cute and sweet and hilarious. And he gets his wish!

Purple Pills (1-2)

Fiona is preparing for her deposition. She felt like she was in a good place, until she watched Bobby's using her mental health struggles against her. Her therapist prescribes her some anxiety medication, but instead of filling it, she self-medicates with alcohol. Which as she has to relive Bobby's abuse gets more and more frequent. We've seen her drink and act out previously, but this is the episode that really shows us that she has a problem. With a little help from her mom and Holly J, Fiona is able to pull herself together, fill her prescription, and speak her truth.

Adam is feeling alone or like a third wheel now that Clare and Eli are...whatever they're doing. Adam doesn't like how Eli has suddenly ditched him for a girl and is even lying about what he's up to. Somehow this results in Adam hanging out with Fitz who seems to be genuinely sorry for his past actions, but Eli doesn't like it. Of course, Eli is right because this is all a setup by Fitz to humiliate Adam again. I'm torn on this plot. I absolute hate when people ditch their friends for a significant other, if that's actually what they're doing, not just splitting time. But I also hate when friends feel like they're entitled to more time than the significant other. No one should have a monopoly on your time, but also don't lie.

Riley and Zane had a great first date, and Riley plans on coming out once football season is over. He plans to surprise Zane by nominating them for Kings of the dance, but that plan comes out much soon than he anticipated. He admits to like boys to the team afterward, but when he worries about not getting scouted for being gay. Thankfully, that worry is unfounded. I guess, Riley is finally out and on his way!

All Falls Down (1-2)

After someone sets off a stink bomb during exams, Audra Torres goes on a rampage and threatens to go to the school board. Mr. Simpson is not wilting flower, so he doesn't cancel the dance, but he asks for more chaperones. Sav uses the dance as his platform to serenade Holly J. She repays him with a striptease! Go, Holly J! At least until the cops walk in.

Clare's guilty and hiding from Mr. Simpson, but Eli steps in and says he heard Fitz bragging about the stink bomb. To keep Fitz from breaking Eli's face, Clare agrees to go to the dance with him. Eli stays calm when Clare tells him, but he comes unhinged after Fitz says they're going to have sex. Oh hell no! Clare takes this as an opportunity to talk to Fitz, who just wants an apology, but Eli refuses to give one. Eli is supposedly the good guy but it's hard to see him that way sometimes. Then Fitz pulls out the knife...

Drew is failing math, and he also fails at resisting Bianca's charms. He tells Alli that she has nothing to worry about, but Bianca can be very persuasive. She also has no shame and makes sure that Alli knows what happened, although Drew says it was just a kiss. He fails to mention it was a kiss below the belt! He and Alli win King and Queen, but Alli left Drew hanging and finds comfort with...Owen. Ew. ALLI STOP!!! Or get rescued by your cheating boyfriend.

Maybe Audra is right and these kids need more discipline! Mr. Simpson has finally had enough...

The Breaking Point

Don't Let me Get Me (1-2)

Uniforms, cops, badges, and metal detectors! A new code of conduct! Mr. Simpson wasn't joking.

Drew wants Alli back, but she's not having it. She's also giving up her double life, since she can wear the same clothes to school and at home, and no student relationships. The Science Olympics team is short a person so they can't compete, until Alli walks in. Adam is also in the club and fills her in on how Drew cried about losing her. DON'T FALL FOR IT ALLI! Alli is one of my favorite characters, but I am team Drianca.

Alli and Bianca (and random girls) are sent to a self esteem workshop after the boiler room incident. Alli doesn't think she belongs there because she didn't actually do anything, but I think she needs it more than Bianca does. Especially after she sneaks into her phone and sends out her nude photos. Did you learn nothing from that time with Johnny?! Child pornography! Needless to say, she ends up in Mr. Simpson's office. Again. And her parents see her file and all hell breaks loose. This is extremely embarrassing and distressing for everyone involved. But I'm proud of Alli for realizing that she does have a problem and things need to change, but...transferring to an all girls school!

Jenna is still competing on Next Teen Star! She's still hiding her pregnancy and hasn't built a "brand" yet. Shantay tells her that she does come across as bland and some gossip will help her out. So she announces her pregnancy on the air! Which is how KC's mom finds out she's going to be a grandmother, and that he wants nothing to do with the baby. But his mother wants to help and tries to knock some sense into Jenna who's simply relying on winning Next Teen Star...which doesn't happened. Reality check.

Love Lockdown (1-2)

Welcome back, Declan! Kind of. He's back at Degrassi for the theater awards and to win Holly J back. She's still with Sav, but Declan wants to show her that he took her word's to heart. He continues with the grand gestures, but on a more low key scale, but it still doesn't work. To help her brother out, Fiona feigns drunkenness to get Holly J to stay over and give them some alone time. This episode is actually about more than just Declan-Holly J-Sav. It's about consent. We see that Holly J isn't into Declan at the moment and does say no.

Shantay is understandably mad that all unsupervised school activities are cancelled, including Power Squad. She asks for a staff adviser, but apparently they're all busy. She needs to blog about this injustice but there's a new internet firewall and a cellphone jammer, so she goes old school. Post-Its in the bathroom! Then onto Mr. Simpson's car. Think he got the message?

Eli is back from suspension and back into Clare's heart. They're suppose to have a date after the awards, but her mom says she and her father need to speak with her. But she's not going to let them ruin her night. After some wholesome fun, Eli does take Clare home where her parents are mad at her rather than each other for once. Then she invites Eli to dinner in hopes that they continue to fight with her! Eventually they drop the news. Divorce!

Umbrella (1-2)

Well, the divorce is really happening and Clare's parents are selling the house. She doesn't want to move though. This is the first time we see Clare at Friendship Club or even mention being Christian. She had turned to the club for help with her parents' divorce, but she just gets the stock "Jesus is there for you" answer. She's questioning her faith and everything she's been taught. Luckily, Eli is actually there for her, but won't have sex with her during this questioning period.

This then morphs into why doesn't Eli let anyone into his room? We got a hint when he opens his locker and everything comes crashing out. His mess could rival JT's. And this is the first and only time Degrassi covers hoarding, and they don't really spend much time on it at all. Clare definitely oversteps by throwing away Eli's stuff. It's not like she knew what was important or not, even if Eli wasn't just holding on to every little thing.

With Alli gone, Drew is lonely and in walks Fiona. Who isn't looking for anything physical or serious. Which grabs Adam's attention. Maybe he has a chance, since sex won't be an issue. But he still tries to help his brother get the girl. They still wind up fighting over her, and Drew says some mean things to Adam. But Drew really does love his brother and talks to Fiona to set things straight.

Dave doesn't want anyone to know that his dad is one of the cops on campus. But after he tells Wesley that he isn't cool enough to hang out with him and his new friends, Wesley spills the beans. To regain his street cred, or whatever, he breaks into his dad's car and steals his taser and shoots Wesley. Dave just keeps going down down down for me. I cannot stand him.

Halo (1-2)

Degrassi can have a one hour dance with lots of chaperones and a dress code. But student musicians are allowed to play, so Sav asks Jenna if she wants to perform together. He also sends her a wishing star to cheer her up, but she thought it was from KC wanting to get back together. Sav even attends prenatal classes with her so she won't be alone. Of course, Jenna develops a crush and doesn't care that he's dating Holly J. When has a girlfriend ever stopped her? At least Sav is up front with her when she comes to him about the situation. He's also honest with Holly J about what happened, which is when she admits to having sex with Declan. At least everyone gets back together in the end?

Anya still needs to claim her date with Wesley from the bachelor auction, which he politely reminds her of. Which is quickly followed by a wet dream and worries about what might happened when he's with her in person, but that doesn't stop him from getting his girl. He goes all out for what is going to be his only date with his dream girl. But he takes a supplement to keep Little Wesley under control, and that backfires. Anya is super sweet about it though and gets Wesley to the hospital, where they meet Dr. Chris. Wesley convinces him to stay and have coffee with Anya. He is so effing sweet!

Fiona is missing New York and all of the parties, so Adam decides to throw a themed party to make her happy. But he starts getting nervous as she isn't showing up or answering her phone. So he sets out to find her. Where is she?!

In Too Deep

When Love Takes Over (1-2)

Adam asks Fiona to audition for the play, and after confirming that there's no singing, she blows them all away. Since she's a late addition, Adam offers to help her run lines. Of course, he's still crushing on her and it seems like she may like him back. Before anything can happen between the two, Adam tells her that he's trans, and she's totally fine with it. She admits to being scared that he's going to get sick of her once he realizes that she's not perfect. Or that she's an alcoholic, who admits that she's drinking more to make being with him easier. Not what Adam wants to hear at all. Even worse, Holly J tells him that she and Fiona's mother have an intervention planned for her.

Anya's mom is in remission! It's amazing news, but now she won't get to see Dr. Chris anymore. She tries to meet up with him outside of the hospital, but she realizes that he has a girlfriend. Or not. They have a wonderful date, but he still thinks that she's a 20 year old college student. Anya is giddy about their budding relationship but her mom does not approve.

Dave is sick of seeing everyone all lovey dovey around school, and random girl Sadie agrees him. He winds up asking her out, and then realizes that she's about a foot taller than him. I hate Dave, but I do kind of like this plot thread. It's almost expected that guys should be taller than their girlfriends, but there's nothing wrong with the opposite! Of course, Dave is a jerk about it and starts blowing Sadie off even though they have a lot in common.

The Way We Get By (1-2)

Drew is the only guy on the basketball without a girlfriend to celebrate with. No girls will give him the time of day except for Bianca. They have fun together, but the team's girlfriends don't like her and don't want her in their group. Everyone thinks that he can do better, but what's so bad about Bianca? She's just straight forward and likes sex. Oh...Drew really does try to bring his new girlfriend and his friends together, but it just isn't working, and he chooses the girlfriend. Which is a big mistake in the moment, since he gets high with her before the big game.

Alli is worried about starting her new school. So she tries to befriend the daughter of one of her mom's friends, hoping that her goodness will rub off on her. Turns out that she's worse than Alli! But she agrees to help Alli get back into her parents' good graces if Alli covers for her once in awhile. Stop Alli! No more nonsense! You can be a good girl on your own! She's already damaged her parents' trust so of course they don't believe her about Malika.

Zane asks Riley to an art show, but he says no because he doesn't know anything about art. But after talking to Anya, he decides to accept and even gets a more sophisticated makeover! Too bad he still makes an ass of himself at the show, but to be fair, who actually understands art?! Zane says he's okay with Riley not liking art and he doesn't have to pretend, but then Riley's mom walks in on them kissing. Can Riley ever catch a break?! He can never come out on his own terms.

Jesus, Etc (1-2)

Eli is teaching Clare how to drive! Clare is confident, until Fitz steps in front of the car. He's out of juvie and says he wants to talk to them. Fitz seems to really want their forgiveness after finding Jesus. Eli is convinced that he's using Jesus as an excuse to get close to Clare, and wants to protect her. Clare is not having his macho man bull-crap. But then Fitz starts emailing Clare at all hours and keeps showing up. He seems to have no one else and Clare gets pulled in. Meanwhile, Eli's behavior gets more and more disturbing. Fitz is right about Eli needing help.

Save needs a drummer, and everyone who tries out has sucked. Except Drew. Sav is hesitant because of Alli, but Drew's actually pretty good. He talks to Alli about it, and she immediately goes off because Drew is the root of all evil. Sav is a great big brother and person all around. I know he loves Alli, but he also knows this is not Drew's fault. They've all made mistakes and deserve another chance. Sav is a bit hard on her and she runs away. Their mother asks Sav to hack her laptop so they look for clues for where she might have gone. They read her ejournal and it turns out that she's gone because of them.

Jenna is hyper-focused on everything baby, while KC thinks she needs to relax a bit. This is not the time, KC! But during their final prenatal class, KC is able to change the diaper while Jenna fails. The instructor offers to let them babysit her six year old to practice. A six year old and a newborn is not remotely the same thing? I get what this plot was going for, but it kind of misses the mark.

Hide and Seek (1-2)

Holly J is falling asleep at school. She has way too many activities going on, or is it something else? It's Degrassi so of course it's something other than just being exhausted. Holly J refuses to believe that it's "something." She's Holly freaking J, she needs to go go go and achieve her goals! She can't be stopped. Even when she faints in class. It isn't until she loses control of her bladder during a presentation that she realizes that she does need medical help.

Alli is still missing, and the police have footage of her getting into a car, but they can't see the plates. Sav continues looking for her, even stopping by Johnny's apartment to ask about her. He keeps Alli's secret that she's been saying there, but he's upset that she lied about being kicked out rather than running away. He still lets her stay after she explains everything that happened. She wants to move across the country, but Johnny stops her. He gets his girlfriend to show her around campus in hopes that she'll be inspired to stay, but once Alli discovers this, she runs away. Again. And gets robbed by a homeless guy and Johnny calls Sav.

Wesley is upset that he's not reaching he's goals after their class digs up their time capsule and he reads the letter from his past self. Like beating the world record for pogostick? Where he meets the love of his life, Hannah! They're so cute!

Chasing Pavements (1-2)

Fiona is out of rehab and taking things one day at a time. When she gets home a letter is waiting saying that Bobby will pay $100,000 to drop the charges. Her mom encourages her to accept to keep her sober, but Fiona wants to go through with the trial. She believes that she can handle it, and she has Holly J there to support her. And Bobby's currently girlfriend admits that he slapped her. Fiona wins her case. And kisses Holly J. On the lips. And says she loves her. Then asks Adam out again and screws it up when she mentions that she likes him for his body. Adam realizes that Fiona wants a girl. Fiona also has to deal with being in love with her best friend. She comes out to mom immediately though, which is new for Degrassi.

Alli is back at Degrassi! She throws herself into studying after she learns that the principal is judged based on the school's test scores. She doesn't want Mr. Simpson to get fired, so she comes up with a plan to get other students on board. Promise them a dance to hit the books!

Anya is in lifeguard training with Owen, the creep. He touches her inappropriately and makes gross comments, so she tells. He gets kicked out and gets mad at her. She tells him exactly what she was feeling during the class, and he thinks she overreacted by going to Coach Armstrong and now he can't be a lifeguard. Classic case of victim blaming.

Drop the World (1-2)

Eli and Clare are published! It's exciting, but now Eli thinks they're this unstoppable writing team. Clare just wants to go to the dance! Miss Daws asks to speak to Eli about the story, worried that something might be going on with him. Epic foreshadowing. He wants Clare to go away with him for two days for a convention, but he is smothering her. She thinks they need a break, which sends Eli over the edge. I'm having a hard time remembering why I loved them together to much. This is not a healthy relationship! But Eli does have an undiagnosed (as of this episode) Bi-Polar Disorder.

Holly J is thinking about breaking things off with Sav. She even makes a pros and cons list. The sparkle is gone even since she got sick. Now they just pay Boggle. She doesn't know how to dump him, so Anya suggests letting his parents find out about them and they'll have to end it. But that plan back fires since Sav actually stands up to his parents and they like Holly J! Then Anya tells Holly J that Fiona is in love with her, which puts a strain on their friendship because Holly J doesn't want to lead Fiona on.

YOU TOLD ME TO PLAY BASKETBALL! That's it. That's all I got from this episode.

Degrassi finales like be during a dance, and dances never go well.

Degrassi: The Next Generation - Season 9 (2009-2010)

This post is going to contain spoilers for this season, and possibly later seasons if I make references to future events.

Just Can't Get Enough (1)

A-Plot: Peter's new semester is off to a rocky start despite the new friends. He doesn't get into the music class with the rest of The Studz, Mia's moving to Paris (aka The Vampire Diaries), and he's been feeling pretty down after the high of being in a movie. So he finds a new high...crystal meth which he gets from new students', Fiona and Declan, junkie cousin.

I love Declan and Fiona! Declan is such a sneaky jerk to Peter, and Fiona is just his sweet sidekick (for now).

B-Plot: Another new student,  Jenna, latches onto Clare, much to Alli's annoyance. She's convinced that Jenna's bubbly friendliness is covering up some dark secrets. And she's kind of right...Jenna admits to being a boyfriend stealer. Epic foreshadowing.

Just Can't Get Enough (2)

A-Plot: Peter is suppose to be getting ready to move to Paris with Mia, but his confidence in himself and their relationship is waning, so he turns back to meth to cope. Mia doesn't want that following her across the world, so they are over! He also nearly loses his friends and his band when he flips out on them and runs away while high.

B-Plot: Another couple is in trouble when Blue keeps making promises to students on Holly J's behalf. He believes the shooting changed her. It has, but it didn't make her a pushover. Holly J will always be Holly J. This was probably the most amicable and least dramatic breakup ever.

Shoot to Thrill

A-Plot: Alli feels like her relationship with Johnny is stuck and that he hides who he really is from his friends. So she takes some cute pictures of him for photography club, which she promises not to share. But she wants her friends to see him the way that she does. He just wants her to act more mature in public. So she gets him a cellphone, and starts sending sexy pictures, to keep their relationship going and private. Or so she thinks. Degrassi girls don't have the best track records when it comes to photos.

B-Plot: Fiona is repulsed by all of the attention from the boys at school. Until Riley comes along, and she pretends to date him to keep the others away. This plot isn't that interesting on its own, but looking forward it is sooo great. They're each other's beards! Fiona figures Riley out before she figures herself out.

"Protect your body. You're the only one who can." --Ms. Hatzilakos

Close to Me

A-Plot: Declan is flirting with Jane during drama class! And Jane flirts back. She's still dating Spinner, and they're about to take their relationship to the next level...Spinner asks Jane to join the band now that Peter is out. And he asks her to move in with him. Much better than a marriage proposal, but still not something Jane would do. Spinner is just so sweet and committed to her, so it makes me sooo bad that she cheats with Declan.

It's always nice to see Manny and Jay. Especially when they're together. But it's weird to see Manny and Jane as friends.

B-Plot: KC finally gets to play some basketball on the Degrassi team and all I can think about is next season when he yells "You told me to play basketball!" I just can't.

You Be Illin'

A-Plot: Alli claims to be over Johnny, but she does need to get the cellphone back. She checks his locker, but finds pictures of them instead and remembers how happy they were. Until they start talking and tells her that she needs to get checked for STDs, because he found something on himself. He also admitted that he slept with a few girls before her.

B-Plot: Peter tries to get back into the band now that he's clean. But they're not The Studz anymore. They're Janie and the Studs. Luckily, he gets to keep his friends. This boy needs friends.

Wanna Be Startin' Somethin'

A-Plot: Holly J and Jane team up on a project. We all know this is going to be a mess, since Holly J likes Spinner who is dating Jane. And she admits to having a crush on Declan, who Jane is hooking up with. Those girls have more in common than they'd think. Holly J is Jane's new Darcy, because that girl needs friends.

But a moment of confusion...a woman says she needs a babysitter for New Year's Eve. Hasn't that already passed? Season 8 ended during winter break, so shouldn't this be the new semester already?

B-Plot: Dave is new and wants to fit in. He wants his cousin, Shantay, to post about him on the Degrassi blog, so he starts pulling all kinds of hijinks for attention. The wrong type of attention. This is the start of my dislike for Dave.

Beat It (1)

A-Plot: Riley has a crush on their lifeguard teacher, who is gay. But Riley is convinced that he can "fix" himself with the right girl, so he tries to get Fiona to sleep with him. She offers to still be his girlfriend while he figures it out, but he angrily sends her away. I love Fiona. Riley does not deserve her, but she is exactly what he needs. Not that he needs a fake girlfriend to flaunt around, but he needs someone that he can be himself with and support him.

I hate how they use Shantay in this plot though. Riley uses her as a "rebound." After winning her a bear, she says they should go to an amusement park together sometime. Riley forcefully kiss her, and she snaps at him because she thinks he's still with Fiona? But she asked him out? She could have just been mad at the way he forced himself on her, regardless of any prior attachments. She just blows up.

B-Plot: Anya's been lying to Sav (and everyone) about taking a self-defense class, when in reality she's afraid of being made fun of for LARPing. This is one of my all-time favorite plots. It's so cute and unique. We already knew that Anya wasn't like Holly J at all, despite being best friends with her for a time. Anya is her own person and I just adore her and this whole plot.

C-Plot: Dave is getting some good attention now that he scored the winning shot at the basketball game. He asks Jenna out, and automatically assumes that she's not his girlfriend. That's not how it works, Dave.

Beat It (2)

A-Plot: Riley continues to struggle with his sexuality and his anger. He's kicked out of the lifeguard training due to his violent outbursts. He gets desperate so he signs up for therapy to be "cured." He admits as much to Peter and Fiona, who both basically have the same response. At least he has enough sense to realize that $2,000 to "degay" himself is a scam. Instead he enrolls in anger management. That's an amazing first step.

B-Plot: Anya continues to love LARPing and even got Leia involved, who blabs to Sav. Who is shocked and thinks it's only for dorks. Anya says she loves to do it while he does "stupid band stuff." Of course, Sav focuses on the stupid comment even though he put down Anya's hobby. But Anya does not back down and makes sure that Sav understands what this means to her, and he adorably finds a way to bring his music into her world.

C-Plot: Jenna does not want to be Dave's girlfriend! She does want to be a cheerleader though. Jenna is nice enough to be honest with Dave and help him out by pretending that he dumped her. But Alli was right, and Clare needs to keep an eye on her and KC.

Waiting for a Girl Like You

A-Plot: Declan wants Holly J, but she keeps turning down all of his grand gestures. Then he shows up during her babysitting job and really gets to know her. The start of one of my favorite couples. Not that they won't have their issues, but they do make sense together.

B-Plot: Leia is worrying about her relationship with Danny, so she takes teen magazine advice from Shantay. Who has a crush on Danny. She tries to fix it, but Danny admits that he and Leia weren't working out and that he likes her. The two decide to wait a month before dating.

Somebody

A-Plot: Holly J is adding even more activities to her schedule, including a new relationship with Declan. And a mentorship with Declan's mom's foundation, or so she thought. The two are caught in a compromising position during the awards ceremony. Holly J assumes she'll lose her position. Instead she loses Declan who refuses to speak up to his mother. Not an uncommon occurrence. It all works out in the end.

B-Plot: Dave tries to help Connor make friends on the basketball team, but it doesn't go so well. Connor doesn't even care about popularity. Now, Dave pushes Connor aside to up his own status with the guys. Lame, Dave. He does make up for it though as he encourages Connor to share the stats he's collected with the coach to help improve the team.

Heart Like Mine (1)

A-Plot: Jenna is going hard for KC and he falls for it. Poor Clare. But KC has bigger problems when the basketball coach steps over the line with him. This is a new twist for Degrassi on student-teacher relationships and child abuse. Coach Carson might not have touched KC, but giving him alcohol and watching porn together is not okay.

B-Plot: Marco is back! He's now a student teacher and Holly J totally takes advantage of him, putting his evaluation at risk.

Heart Like Mine (2)

A-Plot: Jenna tells KC that she thinks Coach Carson is creepy, but KC feels like he gets him so he keeps hanging out. But when Coach hires a prostitute to help KC out, he realizes that this is very inappropriate. He does the right thing by telling Ms. H.

B-Plot: Fiona is getting pushed aside for Holly J. Her and Declan are super close, but not lately. So she auditions for the musical even though she can't sing. Being the producer, Declan gives her the lead to make her happy. But he backs out of his decision and puts her on costume design.

Holiday Road

A-Plot: Emma and Kelly are doing a cross-country bike ride for charity. Emma is also hiding the fact that she dropped out of school. Kelly also can't keep up with Emma's activism. He wants meat, money, and fun! After he leaves, she admits to Snake how she's failing out of college, then stops at The Dot for a burger. She gets more than meat, when Spinner tells her about how life has been not going to college.

B-Plot: Danny gets upset when he's referred to as simply "another student" on Shantay's blog. Then he's upset when she does mention him and how he calculated how much each of them should pay on their date. Her intention wasn't to call him out as cheap, but to get people commenting on them.

Start Me Up

A-Plot: I totally forgot that Above the Dot was Peter's idea. He's looking for something to do before college, so he cleans up the storage area over the Dot and opens a club. It's a no drugs space, but Peter lets some druggies stay instead of risking them spreading bad word about the place. Too bad he's risking the whole operation, as well as Spinner's job. Thankfully, Peter doesn't fall into Victoria's trap after the two meet up again.

B-Plot: Clare is very sheltered and her writing is suffering for it. To spice up her assignments, she starts "borrowing" experiences from the more worldly Declan.

Broken PROMises (1)

A-Plot: Anya and Sav are going to the formal together, and Anya wants the pictures to be in Sav's mom's garden. But...Sav told his parents that they had broken up, and they're setting him up with the very lovely Farrah. Sav's plan is to have Peter be Farrah's date so he can still be with Anya and make his mother happy.

B-Plot: Johnny asks Alli to the formal, but she turns him down. Alli is staying strong after this boy wronged her one too many times. Bruce tries to help his buddy out, but poor Johnny really only has eyes for Alli. He does try with Lindsey, but then Bruce lashes out at him for thinking he's better than him. It's hard to feel bad for Bruce, because he's been nothing but a jerk for the entire series, while Johnny has grown and changed.

Broken PROMises (2)

A-Plot: Sav's plan is going well. He's at the dance with Anya, and Farrah is with Peter. But Farrah is just playing nice, because she does want Sav for herself. Anya isn't giving him up, but she does give up the V-Card. And lies about being on the pill. Dammit, Anya! Unprotected sex is not the way to keep a man! But it is a way for Degrassi to cover the morning after pill.

B-Plot: Alli and Dave are on drink duty at the dance, and Alli is annoyed with Dave for being immature. But then she realizes that being with Johnny had made her grow up too fast to keep him around. But no more!

Innocent When You Dream

A-Plot: After having a sexy vampire dream about Declan, Clare starts writing Fortnight fanfiction....using Declan's name. She also steals his sweater. Clare is clearly obsessed. These vampire novels are going straight to her head...and other parts.

We meet Wesley! I love him! He's freaking adorable!

B-Plot: Sav is confused as to why Anya is so happy after he dumped her, but he's not. She has the musical, driving classes, and LARPing. He has...the band. Kind of. Everyone is busy studying or with the musical, but Sav wants them to film a music video! Well, that fails, so he goes to talk to Anya, who admits she's been faking her happiness to make him want her back. He was right to say that he can't trust her. I love Anya, but she's lowkey sneaky.

"If writing fan fic keeps you from sucking my boyfriends neck, please continue!" --Holly J Sinclair

In Your Eyes

A-Plot: Riley has completed anger management classes, and was ready to admit to Anya that he's gay. She's excited for him, and does some sleuthing, learning that Zane is gay. Zane asks him out. While he was ready to tell his friend, he might not be ready to date. At least, not openly. I am so happy for Riley going after what he really wants.

B-Plot: KC needs help with math, so Clare offers to tutor him. They two quickly become friends again, but KC screws it up by listening to Jenna's advice for him to cheat off Clare during the exam. He further screws things up by blaming all of his problems on Jenna. Take responsibility for your own actions!

Keep On Loving You

A-Plot: Holly J is ready to have sex, and tells Declan that she loves him, but he says nothing back. They just do the sex. Fiona tells Holly J that Declan has issues saying it because of a previous relationship. Holly J accepts this, which is good. Because I hate people expecting everyone to express their feelings on their own timeline. However, the real issue comes when Declan and Fiona have to move back to New York.

I hate to see my faves leave! But I'm glad they're still going to be on the show.

B-Plot: Danny doesn't want Peter kissing Chantay during the musical, so he devises a plan. Danny is coming down with a cold, so he swaps water bottles with Peter. But Chantay grabs is thinking it's Peters and therefore not germ infested. Oops. A pretty silly plot for a finale, but I wish we could have seen the ENTIRE musical! It was fun!

Degrassi Takes Manhattan/The Heat is On (1-4)

A-Plot: Declan, Fiona, and Holly J are getting ready to go to New York. Fiona is happy to be home, and Declan wants to show Holly J a good time. But Fiona is feeling left out, so she does what she does best, she schemes. She shows up to Holly J's internship and tries to push her out, while also messing up dates with her brother. Which only works when Holly J retaliates, and Declan takes his twin's side.

This episode also contains one of my all-time favorite moments: Fiona kissing Declan! This is just soooo wrong! But it shows just how messed up and codependent their relationship is. Thankfully, Declan realizes this and sends Fiona to spend the summer with other family.

B-Plot: Jane got into Stanford and Spinner is not happy, but then Jay (of course!) talks some sense into him. But then...Spinner overheads Jane and Holly J gossiping about Declan. A long distance relationship is the least of their problems. He needed to know, but I feel bad that this is how it came out. Resolution? Jane runs away to New York with Holly J and the Coynes, which turns out to be amazing for her, because she gets into a real band! But all good things must come to an end, because she has college in the Fall.

C-Plot: Meanwhile, Spinner also needs to hire someone at The Dot since Holly J will be gone all summer, and in walks in Emma Nelson! She also burns the place down on her first day because she disobeyed Spin's orders to not use the panini maker. Even though, why would he leave a newb 5 seconds after hiring her?! But that's how they two end up married. Or something like that. I still do not buy this relationship. The getting drunk married? Yes. Staying married? No.

That was wild.

Degrassi: The Next Generation - Season 8 (2008-2009)

This post is going to contain spoilers for this season, and possibly later seasons if I make references to future events.

Uptown Girl (1)

A-Plot: Another school year is about to start which means a new cheer captain. This time it's Holly J, and of course she doesn't even let Mia try out since she was late. Mia vents to her mom, who agrees to help out more with Isabella so that Mia can make this "her year." I'm always rooting for Mia! She needs to find her people and to be included. Cheerleading would take care of the latter, and maybe new student, Leia, will take care of the former. She also gets scouted to be a model! Go, Mia!

This premiere starts out innocently enough, and it looks like things are going great for Mia. But then...Degrassi goes there again.

B-Plot: Emma, Manny, and Liberty arrive at Smithdale, and Emma is upset to learn that she will not be rooming with Manny. Nor are they even on the same floor. I'm more shocked that Liberty is there, since she's suppose to be at Banting with Damian. Anyway, I feel bad for Emma for not really getting the full college experience like her friends are. She wants to hold on to the past, but sometimes you need to just jump in.

Degrassi: The Next Generation - Season 7 (2007-2008)

This post is going to contain spoilers for this season, and possibly later seasons if I make references to future events.

Standing in the Dark (1)

Welcome to a new semester of Degrassi, where Lakehurst has just moved in.

A-Plot: Peter wants to keep his relationship with Darcy secret, but she wants to go public. Thankfully, he sees things her way, but then Ms. Hatzilakos meets her parents who have no idea that they're dating and definitely don't approve. Then when Peter declares that he's not okay with abstinence, Darcy drowns her troubles at a party, where she blacks out and...

B-Plot: Toby is very vocal about being upset with all of the new students. This is a surprising change in tone for Toby, but an understandable one, since there's no way he's going to get over his best friend being killed.

Degrassi: The Next Generation - Season 6 (2006-2007)

This post is going to contain spoilers for this season, and possibly later seasons if I make references to future events.

Here Comes Your Man (1)

A-Plot: Peter gets a new car for his birthday! And a second surprise comes in the form of Sean Cameron, back to stay! Keep Emma close, Peter. Surprisingly, Peter and Sean get along great, since they bond over cars. However, Peter gets into illegal street racing, much to Emma's dismay. But Sean is there to comfort her. YES!

B-Plot: Degrassi does college! They just can't let go of the original cast, and I don't blame them. It's time for Paige's going away party. Also, Darcy is back from Bible camp and it seems like she's forgiven Spinner for his misdeeds, but decides to confront Paige during her party. As we know, Degrassi parties never go well.

Degrassi: The Next Generation - Season 5 (2005-2006)

This post is going to contain spoilers for this season, and possibly later seasons if I make references to future events.

Venus (1)

A-Plot: Manny declares that she is going to focus on her acting career, not boys. She also tries to encourage Emma to go for new boy, Peter, but he has eyes for Manny. Craig repeat? Manny tries to get an agent, but is told she's nothing special and too fat, so of course she looks into plastic surgery. This isn't the first body image episode, but it is the first about cosmetic surgery.

B-Plot: It's Craig's birthday, but his girlfriend has decided to stay in England without telling him. Ellie takes on the task of throwing him a party, and maybe letting him know about Ashley.

Spinner is back at Degrassi, but no one welcomed him.

Venus (2)

A-Plot: This is the first true blackmail plot, as Peter records Manny topless while drunk. We know that he wants her, but she doesn't want him, which is a recipe for disaster. Manny's parents also tell her she'll be staying at Emma's until she gives up on becoming an actress, and all that it entails. Manny's whole world comes crashing down once again, because she makes decisions without thinking them through.

I can't believe Emma still dates this creep after this. Darcy too. But they both have savior complexes, so maybe it does make sense. Peter also should have gotten in serious trouble for distributing child pornography, not just a slap on the wrist.

B-Plot: The band needs a new drummer, since Spinner is out. Marco suggest that Ellie offer her drum talent to apologize to Craig. Instead she tries to get the girls back together with no success.

"Plastic surgery ain't covered by healthcare, honey." --Peter Stone

Death of a Disco Dancer

A-Plot: Matt is back in town and Paige couldn't be more excited. Until he dumps her over dinner and gives her a joint. Paige shares the parting gift with her new friend, Alex. Ruining her chance at her top choice college.

B-Plot: Jimmy is assistant coach for the boys' basketball team, and one of the players is giving him some problems. Derek thinks that he knows more than Jimmy, since he can still play while Jimmy is stuck in his chair.

I totally didn't realize that Hazel and Jimmy dated for so long. I always considered Ashley is long-term girlfriend, but really, it was Hazel.

Foolin'

A-Plot: While JT is teaching Liberty how to drive, he tries to have sex and she rejects him. He says she's been cold since school started, and later she confesses that she's pregnant. I was 100% shocked when this premiered. Liberty...pregnant!?!? She's so responsible! But then we learn how it happened, which is classic JT. They were safe, but JT insisted on buying XL condoms, which slipped off.

This plot also went in a direction I wasn't expecting, when Liberty basically pushes JT out of her life so she can take care of everything like an adult. Damn, Liberty.

B-Plot: Spinner's been flirting with Darcy, who then invites him to Friendship Club, a group for Christian teens. He tells her the truth about why he was expelled and is now repeating his junior year, and maybe religion can provide him with the forgiveness that he needs. This is the first time Degrassi goes deep into religion, Christianity specifically. We know Toby is Jewish from previous holiday episodes, and Hazel is Muslim, but those are just single episode mentions. Christianity is a huge part of Darcy's life, and soon becomes an important part of Spinner's.

Weddings, Parties, Anything

A-Plot: Craig is trying to get his band to do weddings. Luckily, Joey was hitting on a woman who needs a band for her sister's wedding. He also announces that he's not going to be distracted by girls this year, at least until he sees Peter harassing Manny and he rescues her. Old feelings return.

B-Plot: Joey is hesitant about dating a woman 11 years younger than him, but Craig encourages him. Diane does too.

I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For

A-Plot: Jimmy is trying out for a wheelchair basketball team. His father is still only pointing out his flaws, rather than how far he's come. He's also been designing his own wheelchair, and Ellie takes an interest in his art. Encouraging him to explore his creative size.

B-Plot: JT is still trying to talk to Liberty about the pregnancy with little progress. Then Danny finds out and understandably kicks the crap out of JT. I forgot how much Danny always looked out for his sister. He also "blackmailed" JT into taking care of his baby doll for Health class, which of course, shows JT that he and Liberty are going to need a lot of help. This was a bit of a light hearted way to deal with a serious topic.

Turned Out (1)

A-Plot: JT and Liberty finally talk to Ms. Sauve about the pregnancy, and JT wants to look into adoption, but Liberty is not having it. But after finally communicating with each other, they two come to a decision and get back together. After being turned away by his grandmother, and too scared to tell her parents, JT and Liberty look for an apartment. Unfortunately, they can't afford it, but Jay might have the answer to their money troubles. Jay is always sliding into people's lives when they're about to hit the bottom.

B-Plot: Emma is feeling like a third wheel now that Craig and Manny are back together. But then Peter starts showing an interest in her. She's conflicted because she did like him, but after what he did to Manny? Instead she agrees to a date with Derek. Clearly that is not going to workout, since Emma does want to give Peter a chance. I can't even remember them dating.

Turned Out (2)

A-Plot: JT does it. He meets Jay's contact and sells the stolen pills. He gets the money for the apartment, but they still need to tell Liberty's parents about the baby and the move. JT also admits to her how to got the money, and needless to say she isn't happy. Maybe her parents are right about him?

This all leads to this series' first suicide attempt. I still can't believe JT took all those pills.

JTs plan to buy the pills back and return them to the pharmacy always rubbed me the wrong way. The pharmacist noticed the pills were gone, he'd definitely wonder how they were put back. This makes zero sense. I guess you could argue that JT isn't thinking clearly, but...c'mon now.

B-Plot: Snake is entering a midlife crisis. He buys a motorcycle and then starts flirting with Ms. Hatzilakos.

Tell It to My Heart

A-Plot: Marco still isn't out to his father and it's getting more difficult by the day. Especially after he beings mentoring Tim, and encourages him to tell his own father the true. This puts Tim in a very dangerous situation, made worse when Tim finds out Marco lied about his own coming out.

B-Plot: Peter is still trying to charm Emma, but she continues to reject him based on his previous behavior. Then roles are reversed when Manny says they must take action against his harassment! Emma jumps on board when Peter starts acting like a jerk toward her. Revenge is a biatch. But Emma isn't, because she sees Peter for who he really is, and it's not the jerk he acts like.

Redemption Song

It's been on year since the shooting and it has students feeling some kinda way...

A-Plot: Spinner is still attending Friendship Club and dating Darcy. It making him think about things very closely. It's time for a change. But when the Friendship Club retreat gets off to a rough start, he calls up Jay. Who tries to help, in his own Jay kinda way, nearly ruining things for Spinner in the process.

B-Plot: Hazel is planning a summer roadtrip for her and Jimmy. He also won the mural contest, which she didn't know he entered, but Ellie did. Here comes the end of the longest Degrassi relationship.

The Lexicon of Love (1)

A-Plot: There was a bit of miscommunication here. Alex thinks she and Paige are attending the movie premiere together, only to find out that's not the plan. But after Paige learns she's been cut from the movie, she gets two tickets from Kevin, and invites Alex. And they look hot together. Then their night ends with a kiss....I LOVE IT!!!!

B-Plot: Emma and Peter are sneaking around! And so are their parents... Oopsie.

The Lexicon of Love (2)

A-Plot: Paige cannot deal with what happened with Alex, and treats her pretty poorly. But they do talk and it goes well. And I love that this show makes it clear that you don't have to be gay to be attracted to someone of the same sex or gender.

B-Plot: Meanwhile, Emma cannot deal with her stepfather and keeping this secret from her mother. Snake is trying to make it up to them, but he does come clean. It's hard to picture Archie as a cheater even after witnessing it! Dammit, Archie!

Together Forever

A-Plot: The band is finally going somewhere, but everyone except Craig has plans to go to college. He has a full scholarship, but music is his dream. Also, it looks like Ellie is getting in the middle of another couple. She's everybody's muse!

Kind of related, but I was totally in love with Craig as a tween, and now I'm realizing that he's not that great of a singer?

B-Plot: Toby is acting as secret go-between for Liberty and JT. She won't talk to JT, so Toby's been filling him in on all of the baby updates. The latest? Liberty needs to take it easy because her doctor said she's too stressed. Of course, she goes into labor early.

I Against I

A-Plot: A little foreshadowing of Spinner getting baptized, when Jimmy dunks him multiple times during the carnival. He also tries to reconcile with Marco, which doesn't go well when Friendship Club shows its ugly side. I love how Darcy is the voice of reason in this one. Her characterization as a Christian who isn't "a total loser" has been great.

Another important discussion hidden within an unrelated plotline. USE CONDOMS! Or don't have sex. Giving out condoms doesn't make kids have sex. They can still choose not to do it at all. Heck, passing out condoms doesn't even make kids have safe sex. Education is key.

B-Plot: Emma is working hard to cheer up her mom after kicking Snake out. They get her a stripper! I love how this episode is in direct contrast with the bachelor party. Craig, Toby, and JT wanted a stripper, but didn't get to stay for the show. But Emma and Manny get to stay for their party!

"It's never going to be the time." --Spinner Mason

Our Lips are Sealed (1)

A-Plot: The anorexia and bulimia plot-line. Emma decides that she is going to take back control of her life, while helping Manny and herself lose weight. What follows is a quick descent into an eating disorder for Emma, which Manny realizes and tries to stop. Then Emma faints at school, and can no longer hide that she has a problem. This is a much more in depth eating disorder plot than 209, and much more common. It does a great job of showing that it's not always about your weight, but about control.

B-Plot: Snake is desperately trying to prove that he's sorry to Spike, but he's going about it all wrong. Thankfully, Diane is the voice of reason.

Our Lips are Sealed (2)

A-Plot: Emma is still continuing to starve herself and pretending everything is fine. At least until she has a bit of a blowup at Peter. And she uses her secret relationship to distract Manny from discovering her real secret: that she isn't eating at all. But all secrets come out eventually, and Emma lashes out at those who love her most.

B-Plot: Paige is stressing about college, and Alex treats it like a joke. Along with her friendship with Hazel. So Alex tries to make an effort with her girlfriend's best friend. This doesn't go so well, because Hazel is just mean at times. But the two bond over how stubborn Paige can be.

Total Eclipse of the Heart

A-Plot: Marco is not over Dylan and pretends to be dating Tim when he runs into him again. Dylan is still in love with him and he plays dirty.

B-Plot: Liberty finds out that the adoptive parents of her son are moving to Seattle. She's keeping herself busy by studying and tutoring, but she's not as unaffected as she acts. But she finds comfort in Derek's adoption story.

High Fidelity (1)

A-Plot: Darcy is feeling threatened by Manny, especially after she learns that Spinner is not the virgin that he pretends to be. Resulting in another girl fight! And Spinner becoming a virgin again. However, Spinner feels like he'll never be "pure" enough for Darcy, who continues to judge him for his past.

B-Plot: Paige got into her dream college, and she wants Alex to move with her. But what would Alex be doing so far from home? She has no plans for the future and just wants to live in the now. With Paige.

High Fidelity (2)

A-Plot: Spinner gets back with Darcy and intends on telling Paige, but then things go much further than he anticipated. He thinks they might get back together, but realizes that Paige just "used" him. He's not mad at her.

B-Plot: Jimmy learns that he doesn't have enough credits to graduate. Then he asks out Ellie after some encouragement from Ashley, but he gets turned down. Not the greatest way to end the school year. Until he gets his best friend and first girlfriend back.

A happy season finale?! Don't get too use to it.

Degrass: The Next Generation - Season 4 (2004-2005)

This post is going to contain spoilers for this season, and possibly later seasons if I make references to future events.

Ghost in the Machine (1)

A-Plot: Paige's court date is fast approaching, and of course, Dean tries to convince her to not testify. Paige promised Spinner that their relationship would go back to normal once the trial is over, but if she doesn't go, what does that mean for them? I totally get that Spinner is upset about this, but ultimately this is all up to Paige. If she feels like she needs to go or not, is her decision.

As for the trial, it was intense. I hate how it's a real job to try to discredit young women so that they're attacker can go free. I found it especially hard to watch, since that person in this case is a woman.

B-Plot: It's Craig's 16th birthday and he just received $10,000 from his late father's estate.

Ghost in the Machine (2)

A-Plot: Paige is devastated after losing her case and doesn't know how to go back to being normal. Instead, she acts out. She wrecks Spinner car, gets her license suspended, has community service, and needs to get a job. New year, new look, new Paige.

B-Plot: Of course Craig wants to go out and have fun while spending the money, but Joey was hoping for some help around the house. This makes Craig feel like Joey only keeps him around for the money, which adds to his feelings about not having a real family.

King of Pain

A-Plot: Marco is running for student president against Alex, and is still hiding Dylan from his parents. Dylan's been patient, but he's tired of being pushed back in the closet. Turns out that his mom is much more observant than he gave her credit for, as she suspected he was down because of Dylan. He comes out to her with much tears from everyone.

B-Plot: Chris and Emma broke up over the summer, but there still might be feelings there. Liberty's also crushing on Chris, and as we know, that girl always goes for it. Emma gets a little cruel and goes after Chris just so that Liberty can't have him. She's embarrassed.

Mercy Street

A-Plot: Rick is back and no one wants him there. Getting rid of him has become Emma's new mission. But he's trying very hard to make amends. I felt like he was sincere, which makes the upcoming events that much more tragic. No one deserves to be treated this way.

B-Plot: Manny is distancing herself from JT. He assumes it's because she didn't like what she saw when Danny pantsed him. Danny has a solution for him: a penis pump! But it's really because he's been behaving quite immaturely. I'm glad for this break-up, because I did not think these two go together. Yes, JT was sweet to Manny when other boys called her a slut, but they're better off as friends.

Anywhere I Lay My Head

A-Plot: Sean asks Ellie to move in!But she can't leave her alcoholic mother home alone. Particularly after she passes out with the stove on, nearly burning down their house. However, she uses the repairs as an excuse to give living with Sean a try, while he mother believes she's staying with Ashley.

Ellie does confront her mother about how her drinking drives Ellie to cut. They both need help.

B-Plot: Downtown Sasquatch is back at it! Spinner thinks they need to do some small gigs and get out of Craig's garage. When in reality, Manny asked him to convince Craig to play at the spirit squad car wash to draw a crowd. But Spinner starts to see Manny in a new light...

Islands in the Stream

A-Plot: Paige needed a job to pay for Spinner's car damage, but she just got fired from The Dot. Now she has to work with Alex at the movie concession stand. While she's working her butt off, Spinner is getting closer to Manny and generally not being a great boyfriend, especially when he shows up at her job and fights with Craig over Manny.

B-Plot: Toby and Rick are paired up for a trivia challenge, and then start a bet on who can get a kiss from Emma before the day ends. Having both accomplished that, they need something to break the tie, starting their friendship. While I like Toby and Rick as friends, this plot is pretty gross.

Time Stands Still (1)

A-plot: Rick's bullying has reached its peak. He wins the Quiz Bowl, only to have his moment ruined Carrie-style. He leaves and the episode ends with him getting a gun. I'm pretty sure this is the first/only episode where no music plays during the freeze frame and credits.

Mr. Raditch had a huge role to play in what happened, and this episode is what gets him removed. He tells Rick that he can't make Jimmy or the other students like him. "It takes two," he tells Rick. He does not take the bullying seriously. All he was required to do was listen to Rick and address his concerns, not dismiss him. That boy needed help.

B-plot: Joey is selling the house. Craig calls Sydney for help. This plot is just filler to distract us from realizing how deadly the main plot is going to turn.

Time Stands Still (2)

A-Plot: Even 15 years later, I think this is the most impactful episode. Degrassi covers so many issues, even death, but nothing comes close to Rick's story. Yes, what he did to Terri was awful, but the severity of his bullying was also awful. Awful enough to push this kid over the edge, ruining lives, and ending his.

I have to admit that during the premiere, I didn't think he was actually going to shoot someone. Maybe someone stopped him, or maybe he had a change of heart. Especially after that moment with Paige where they both apologize and he puts the gun away. But then...damn. I was sobbing.

B-Plot: Caitlyn returns and decides to buy Joey's house.

Back in Black

A-plot: After the shooting, Sean is being regarded as a hero, since he stopped Rick from shooting Emma, killing him the process. However, Sean doesn't want the attention and is acting like nothing happening. But after seeing an interview with his absent parents, he gets mad and heads off to confront them. Ultimately, deciding to stay with them. This was Sean's second super emotional moment for me.

B-Plot: Toby is now being ostracized for being Rick's friend. Even JT wants nothing to do with him, but eventually does show up to the wake to support his friend. This might just be the beginning of a more mature JT.

Neutron Dance

A-Plot: Craig is trying to keep the bang going by adding Ashley since Jimmy is still in the hospital. But there's tension with Spinner and Marco who don't think Ashley should record with them, since she did lost the contest back in 318. They do have a point.

B-Plot: Degrassi added a yoga class to help students de-stress. Paige decides to go because Mr. O, the hot student teacher, is also teaching the yoga class. She does not have the best luck when it come to older guys. Luckily, Mr. O isn't a creep, but he does have a girlfriend.

"Do not let the cult of yoga suck you in." --Paige Michalchuk

Voices Carry (1)

A-Plot: Craig and Ashley are back together. He'll be joining her at her father's wedding, but he's been acting strange lately. He's impulsive. First walking out of class. Then stealing Joey's credit card to get them a hotel room. And finally...proposing. Before destroying said hotel room.

B-Plot: Liberty adapted Dracula into a play for the school to put on in an effort to get things back to normal. This is the beginning of another one of my favorite plot-threads. This play causes some very interesting events to occur and totally shook up my character rankings. But first, they need the play approved by Mr. Raditch who thinks it's too dark and gruesome after the shooting.

"You, study my butt leaving." --Craig Manning

Voices Carry (2)

A-Plot: Craig's behavior continues to become more aggressive as he crashes the wedding and attacks Joey. Turns out, he has bipolar disorder. The first time Degrassi has dealt with mental health issues that are chemical rather than behavioral. Another emotional episode that brings the tears.

B-Plot: Liberty and JT continue pushing to get Dracula approved and continue to get closer. Looks like Liberty is finally going to get her man!

Bark at the Moon

A-Plot: Manny finally gets an apology from Craig, but he totally botches it. She's also been assigned to come up with ideas to raise school spirit by their new principal. And Spinner has made his intentions known, but Manny is hesitant. But new guy Chester is pretty cute...

B-Plot: Paige is also offering apologies to Mr. O and finds out that he's newly single. She points out that their age difference isn't so bad, but he's still kind of her teacher. Until he isn't anymore. I love student-teacher affairs! They fascinate me!

Secret (1)

A-Plot: Emma is still struggling to return to normal after Rick came after her, which is leading her to act severely out of character. She's quiet and withdrawn, which worries those closest to her. However, she lands the lead in the school play after Darcy drops out. She also catches the attention of Jay. They're not strangers, as her reminds her about taking that trip with Sean in 409.

Those stupid bracelets! I remember these from high school. A different color for each act you're willing to perform with a boy. So stupid. I wish Amy had been a regular character, so there'd be a real "school slut."

B-Plot: Craig starts going to a support group to deal with his bipolar disorder. Ellie goes to the same group for her cutting. The two become fast friends, as Craig finally feels like someone understands him.

"You're no weirder than the rest of us." --Jay Hogart

Secret (2)

A-Plot: It's almost time for Dracula to hit the stage, but students are getting sick. With gonorrhea. Including Emma. Turns out that hooking up with Jay in an old van was not a good idea.

B-Plot: Jimmy is ready to go home, but his father is delaying his return in order to make sure the house is 100% accessible for him. Jimmy can get around fine, and he's going to prove it with the help of his friends. Marco and Craig break him out and take him to a concert where Jimmy has the time of his life, front row.

Eye of the Tiger

A-Plot: It's Jimmy's first day back at school and we find out that Spinner didn't visit him a single time at the hospital. What follows is an adorable montage of Spinner being extra helpful as Jimmy navigates the school. When Jimmy reveals all of his anger about the shooting to Spinner, Spinner confesses that he told Rick that Jimmy was the one to pour paint on him. This is the end of their friendship for awhile, as well as the beginning of Spinner becoming a pariah.

And even though it's after the fact, Ms. Hatzilakos responded in the way that Raditch should have from the beginning. She got the story, she got the names, and punished accordingly.

Continuity issue: Jay shows up at The Dot to confront Spinner. Him and Sean got "banned for life" back in 306.

B-Plot: Danny sabotages JT and Liberty's relationship, since JT doesn't want to hang out with him anymore. Danny also doesn't think that JT is good enough for his sister and brings up the penis pump incident. What results is the worst fist fight ever, and with Liberty getting mad at JT for pushing her little brother.

Queen of Hearts

A-Plot: Ellie is still living in Sean's apartment. Alone. Her mother has been paying the rent, but now she wants her to come back home. Instead of accepting the offer, she tells her mom she doesn't want to come home and she doesn't want anymore money. Ellie starts playing Euchre for cash to earn rent money. This is the first (and only?) time Degrassi covers gambling. She doesn't become an addict, but it's not a reliable way to make money to live on.

B-Plot: Revisiting Paige's relationship with Mr. O. They've been sneaking around with plenty of near missed, so she wants to come over. What's he hiding over there? This was an interesting one, because of course, everyone thinks he's cheating. When in actuality, he lives in an awful apartment.

Modern Love

A-Plot: Paige and Mr. O are still trying to date in public, but it's getting too risky when they're nearly caught by Mr. Simpson. Then Paige and Manny get into a fight in the halls, where Manny reveals the secret. However, Mr. O is looking out for Mr. O and tells Ms. Hatzilakos that she was stalking him.

B-Plot: Emma is now facing the same slut-shaming that Manny faced.

Moonlight Desires

A-Plot: Marco isn't allowed to donate blood because he's had sex with Dylan, which is 100% unfair, and he's going to do something about it. This also leads him to discovering that Dylan has been cheating on him when he shows up at the door to talk to him about it. I was much more interested in the blood drive portion of the plot than Dylan and Marco trying an open relationship.

B-Plot: Spinner talks to Ms. Hatzilakos about taking his exams, which she informs him he will not be doing. He doesn't want to lose his entire year, and storms out to plot his revenge. He teams up with Jay to steal the yearbooks and light them on fire. Luckily, Jay has some brains and stops him from committing arson.

West End Girls

A-Plot: Manny goes head-to-head with Paige...again. Paige takes credit for Manny's hard work on the spirit squad, and then Marco invites her to join their group for prom, then dumps her for Paige when she finds out Matt is leaving. Paige also makes Manny be the mascot instead of the flier, even though Paige can't do it. Resulting in a broken leg for Paige. Manny goes to prom with Toby. Worst prom ever.

B-Plot:  Craig gets Kevin Smith to check out Degrassi during prom, making the school the location for his upcoming movie. Craig and Ashley also get rejected for working on the soundtrack.

"Why do you always have to be more horrible?" --Hazel Aden

Goin' Down the Road (1)

A-Plot: Craig doesn't want to spend the summer alone, so he applies for a music program in England in order to follow Ashley there. She thinks he's acting impulsively, possibly off his medication, and wants space. Even without Craig's bipolar disorder, this plot covers something important but overlooked. Couples do not need to be attached at the hip. You are allowed to have interests outside of your partner!

B-Plot: Caitlyn is getting close to Kevin Smith while she covers the filming of his new movie. He's been encouraging her to go back to her roots, but she wants to settle down with Joey. Or does she?

Goin' Down the Road (2)

A-Plot: Craig is living at the school, after supposedly leaving for England. And dumping his medication out so he can write more music. Thankfully, Spinner does the right thing for once, and calls Joey to get Craig. Unfortunately, Craig runs away and is living on the streets.

B-Plot: Joey and Caitlyn are engaged again, which goes against everything that she really wants, despite her being the one to propose.

Degrass: The Next Genersation - Season 3 (2003-2004)

This post is going to contain spoilers for this season, and possibly later seasons if I make references to future events.

Father Figure (1)

Everyone looks so grown up! New student alert: Chris Sharpe!

A-Plot: It's the first day back to school, and Emma is feeling some kinda way about her mom giving birth and what that means for her. It's also got her thinking about her biological father, whom she assumes is a doctor and doesn't want to be in her life. We're both shocked to learn that he's a patient.

B-Plot: Spinner is trying to get Hazel to trade lockers with Paige, since she feels banished on the far side of the school. What ensues is a real life version of Monopoly property swapping.

Another adult drama plot-line. Caitlyn meets Joey's new girlfriend during Spike's baby shower and is clearly feeling some kinda way too. I was always rooting for Caitlyn and Joey, especially after I finally binged Degrassi Junior High and Degrassi High.

Degrassi: The Next Generation - Season 2 (2002-2003)

This post is going to contain spoilers for this season, and possibly later seasons if I make references to future events.

When Doves Cry (1)

Craig! Craig is my favorite guy on the show, and this is when we finally meet him as he's taking pictures of Emma and Angela. Which is not creepy, since we also eventually learn that his mom married Joey, so Angela is his sister. We also quickly learn that his father is controlling and abusive. This plot certainly kicks off Degrassi's darker direction.

School is back in session, and Degrassi is now a middle school and a high school because we need more time with these characters. Previous events have certainly not been forgotten, as Ashley finds herself with only Terri for friendship.

JT is on the prowl for an older woman and he has his sights set on Paige, who will not give him the time of day. Emma and Manny are both crushing on Craig. Such cute beginnings for such a dramatic ending...

When Doves Cry (2)

Part two picks up right where part one left off. Paige agrees to a date with JT after a bribe and actually has fun. Craig is still trying to sneak in ways to see his sister behind his father's back.

Craig's father is a piece of crap. He starts the episode by giving Craig a stack of cash to replace the camera that he broke during one of his tirades. However, Craig considers using this money to run away with Angela until Joey finds them. The real trouble starts when his father finds out and we learn how bad it really is by the amount of locks on his door. Then that heart stopping moment of Craig on the train tracks.

Girls Just Wanna Have Fun

It's just crazy to me that I am now slightly older than Snake and Spike. I'm sooo old! And I would have been all over an 80s dance.

The continuing adventures of Emma's crush on Craig, which fizzles out because...he likes Manny. Duh! One of my favorite couples of the whole series. Even with the Ashley drama. Or especially with the Ashley drama.

Marco del Rossi!!! Another favorite. I think most of my favorites appear during this season. He's introduced as an amazing dancer, and I think this is the only episode where that's ever brought up. Just like Spinner and Jimmy's failed break dancing careers. Although I do love Jimmy dressed as Michael Jackson.

Karma Chameleon

Introduction Ellie Nash! Another favorite? Yep! She doesn't let Paige push her around and becomes Ashley's new friend after her old ones continue to reject her later in the season.

Ashley really is trying to apologize for her mistake. At least Jimmy seems open to letting her back into his life. So does Sean...But Paige does not forgive or forget.

Back to Toby, who has a new crush: Kendra Mason! She's Spinner's sister, and of course, he pulls that whole "stay away from my sister or I'll break your face" thing. The first appearance of the mysterious disappearing Kendra.

Weird Science

Another Emma episode. This time she's still struggling with her mom dating Mr. Simpson, and she's working on her science project which has unexpected results on Spinner. This is the only episode with any significant interactions between these two before they accidentally get married. It's definitely weird.

I totally forgot that Jimmy asked out Ellie! Who rejects him because she's friends with Ashley now. Her only friend. But she does give her number to Spinner?!

Drive

The first episode of the show where a student drives! Well, Joey let Craig drive a car across the lot for a cleaning. Then he leaves him home alone for the weekend, so of course has to take his friends for a joyride! While this starts out like a fun loving plot point, it does end with an important lesson from Joey.

Marco finally speaks and is shown as friends with Spinner, Jimmy, and Craig. We also get the first subtle hint of him being gay, which you'd only notice in hindsight.

Ashley's new goth look is revealed. I always preferred her with short hair. She's done a total 180 from the preppy girl she was last season. She also heads to get piercings with Ellie. I got my bellybutton pierced at 13, but I'm not afraid of needles.

Shout (1)

Oh man, I did not realize this episode happened so early on. I remember being super uncomfortable the first time (and second and third and...) I watched this one. It's the first of three rape stories on the show and proved that Degrassi really does go there. It does not shy away from the realities that teens face. Unfortunately, a few years after this episode aired, I had a similar experience to Paige which forever changed the way I view this and the subsequent episodes.

Although my personal experience was closer to Darcy's. Either way, it's not something any girl should go through, but I applaud Degrassi for covering this topic. I remember being in Paige's shoes, pretending like nothing happened on the outside while being a mess on the inside. Deny deny deny! No girl wants to hear the R-word in relation to what she did with a boy she thought liked her.

I also had a similar moment with a guy friend who made an insensitive comment that pushed me over the edge. The writers really did a fantastic job with this story-line.

The B-plot is more comedy relief from Toby and JT, following up on their locker sharing woes.

Shout (2)

Paige is suffering from nightmares after the rape, another piece that I can unfortunately relate to and remember well. But she's trying to be normal, which includes entering a music contest. The return of the musical teens! It isn't until Ashley reads a poem about being ostracized by her friends that Paige has words for what happened to her, and she finds power in that song when performed in front of her rapist.

I love how the roles are reverse from Cabaret. Then Paige was the one that Ashley didn't want in the group, and Terri felt like her voice wasn't her. Now Paige's ideas are being rejected and she needs Ashley to give the performance that she finds more meaningful.

20 years later, and that scene of Ashley comforting Paige still makes me cry.

Liberty's crush on JT is back with a vengeance! And so is their rivalry.

Mirror in the Bathroom

Toby feels like he doesn't get the recognition that he deserves for his tech expertise, so he goes out for wrestling. This is the first and only time Degrassi does an eating disorder plot with a boy. Toby starts pushing too hard, eating too little, and taking laxatives in order to drop weight fast, with dangerous results.

Terri is a plus sized model now! She has more money and more confidence, at least until some stupid boy calls her names for being fat.

Take My Breath Away

This is the ultimate crush episode and was always one of my favorites, because it marks Cranny's first date! With a little encouragement from Emma, Manny gets up the courage to ask Craig on a date. Their recounting of the date was hilarious and adorable, since they each saw it totally differently. When he says that she reminds him of his sister, I was cracking up, because as we know by now Alexis Steele (who plays Angela) is her real life sister. But Manny does seem to young for Craig for long..

Meanwhile, Ellie also has a crush on Marco, but Hazel is going after him, and she's too shy to let him know.

Don't Believe the Hype

Degrassi deals with racism! And struggling with identity. Paige is acting as the fashion police and giving out tickets, but Hazel takes it a step further and gives one to a Muslim girl for wearing a hijab. It isn't until the 9th graders give presentations on their heritage that we learn that Hazel is actually from Somalia and not Jamaica. A secret that she had even kept from Paige, who has never been to her best friend's home.

This episode continues to fight stereotypes, by showing us that JT is awesome at sewing, although he pretends like he's awful when Sean calls him "Gay T." He swaps projects with Liberty and now she's been given a more difficult project which she can't complete without JT's help.

"We're people; why do we need labels?" --Hazel Aden

White Wedding (1)

Another love episode! The main event is Emma preparing for her mom's wedding, and learning that Sean is still in love with her. Manny steps in and makes Sean think that Emma wants to get back together, despite Emma saying otherwise. But also feeling otherwise.

Of course, being a wedding coming up, there must be a bachelor party coming up? JT and Toby convince Craig to hire a stripper, since Joey is hosting the party.

And on top of the wedding craziness, Spike learns that she's pregnant...and that Snake wants to wait to have kids. The episode ends with her considering an abortion, which is the first time Degrassi brings up the topic. Try it out with an adult, before going for it again with a teen.

White Wedding (2)

This episode reminds me why Emma quickly dropped down my favorite characters list. She's always barging into everyone's business and jumping to conclusions, never letting anyone make their own decisions or make them at their own pace. This time she shows up at Joey's house to tell Snake about the abortion during his bachelor party. Go home, Emma! At least Manny calls her out on it.

Emma is a strong character, but she needs to pick her battles. Of course, it's hard at 13, so she has a lot to learn. The show does a great job of showing that our actions have consequences. Not just for us, but for those close to us.

Another important point this plot brings up is that the pill is not 100% effective. 98% according to Spike. It's not realistic for people to just go without sex, but be aware of the possibilities, and maybe double up. Condoms are important too.

Emma and Sean's first kiss!!!

"Emma, you interfering is nothing new." --Sean Cameron

Careless Whisper

Another sex and sexuality episode with Dr. Sally! This one opens with Marco eying a shirtless Spinner. Spinner makes some homophobic statements. Jimmy asks some questions about how gayness works. Paige brings up her brother, who we meet next season. Ashley wants to know if gay is genetic (her dad is gay). Meanwhile, Marco looks lost, confused, embarrassed.

Ellie is also worried that Marco doesn't like her, so she tries to be more upfront about her feelings. They do kiss, but Marco ultimately has to tell her that he's confused and doesn't know what he feels. This is the official start of their amazing friendship. But he still keeps up the straight guy front for Jimmy and Spinner, and Ellie is willing to be his beard for now.

Toby and Kendra are still adorable and awkward. Until Toby starts getting too....awkward and making Kendra feel smothered.

"Kendra speaks for herself, thanks." ---Kendra Mason

Hot for Teacher

Crushes on teachers are such a thing. JT has the hots for Ms. "Hot Sauce." But he also likes her as a person after bonding over the class guinea pigs, and he stands up for her against the other boys. Then mocks her to get them off his back. Of course, she catches him and is hurt by it. Yes, she's a sexy woman but she's also smart and kind, and teenage boys are jerks.

After being told he stinks, Spinner makes Jimmy promise to always tell the truth. No matter what or to whom. This is an interesting double topic. The first: personal hygiene. It's embarrassing for teens, but it's important. The second: honesty without being cruel.

Message in a Bottle

Spinner convinces Jimmy to reach out to Sean to settle their differences. He winds up inviting him to a party. And on the same night, Emma's parents want him to come over for dinner. Sean is feeling stressed because his brother is out of work, and he's surrounded by friends with stable parents and money. He turns to alcohol to calm his nerves...

Ashley and Jimmy round three? Jimmy has not-so-subtly been checking her out, but once they're face to face he doesn't know what to say. Ashley is definitely feeling the mixed signals. Boy make everything so complicated.

Relax

Oh, Degrassi has girl sports other than spirit squad? Kidding. But it's never shown, unlike the boys basketball and wrestling.  Liberty tried out for the floor hockey team, but didn't make it. She is the manager though. But as we know, Liberty doesn't like to fail, but she channels that energy into getting increased funding for the girls. But also as we know, Liberty tends to go above and beyond, much to the annoyance of her classmates.

Meanwhile, Terri unleashes the dark arts again. She reads Paige's palm and believe that she's going to die soon. However, with further research Paige realized the reading was wrong, but she strings Terri along for fun because she's Paige.

Dressed in Black

After a disappointing sex education class, Toby finds himself confused about condoms, so he and JT head to the store and buy some. Degrassi continues to make sure that kids know that condoms are important if you're going to be having sex! But there's some humor here, since Spinner finds the condoms and assumes Toby is trying to have sex with his sister and goes on a rampage. But Kendra is more than able to stand up for herself, which I love. I wish she had stuck around longer.

Ashley and Jimmy are back together, but he's realizing that she's not the same girl that she was when they dated last year. Which he keeps reminding her of. It's not fair to Ashley, since she isn't that girl anymore and Jimmy needs to accept that if he wants to be with her. On the other hand, Craig has been subtly dropping hints that he likes her. Coincidentally, they're studying Taming of the Shrew...

Fight For Your Right

The socio-economic divide between best friends, Spinner and Jimmy, is rearing its ugly head. Jimmy's birthday just passed and his parents spoiled him. Spinner couldn't even afford to replace his disc-man while Jimmy got a top of the line MP3 player, and designer clothes. And after Jimmy lives his MP3 player lying around, Spinners snags it.

Emma has a new cause: getting GM foods out of the cafeteria. It's a worth cause, but also expensive. I'm all for organic produce, but being able to afford it is a privilege. The school has to make food accessible to all of its students, not just cater to Emma's whims. But I do agree that it's unfair that she was suspended during the food fight. She didn't directly start it, nor did she throw anything. Raditch was just on a power trip and didn't like what she was saying, so he used the food fight as an excuse. It's no wonder he was removed later in the show...

I 100% forgot about Sully! Oh dang...

How Soon is Now

We finally get to catch up with Paige after her rape. She feels like she's over it and wants to stop going to therapy. She's also noticeably happier and more like her old self. At least until she finds out that Degrassi will be playing against Dean's school in the upcoming tournament. Now she wants to press charges, something that I was too scared to do. This one is a roller coaster of emotions for Paige and me.

We're also catching up with Marco and Ellie as they work on a class project and continue the charade of their relationship. But Ellie can't just shut off her feelings, and Marco can't make himself straight.

Tears Are Not Enough (1)

Part one of this season finale begins where the season started, with Craig and his dad. He's trying to reconcile, but Craig is understandably hesitant. He does agree to dinner which goes well and gives Craig hope. Especially after there's some tension with Joey.

This episode contains the first death of the series. It's an emotional one, but not because the character was well liked. It's a shock to Craig, who had planned on never seeing his father again by going to Children's Aide. Now the choice is out of his hands. Craig is the first orphan on the show.

Meanwhile, JT agrees to a date with Liberty if she tutors him for the upcoming exams.

Tears Are Not Enough (2)

Craig goes back to school and acts like nothing happened, and makes jokes about it. Not to mention his behavior during the funeral. It's a very uncomfortable episode. Looking back on it now, could this be the first hint of his bi-polar disorder?

Of course, the B-plot is something light and ridiculous. Paige and Spinner are in competition with Hazel and Jimmy for luau king and queen.
