Degrassi: Next Class - Season 3 (2017)

This post is going to contain spoilers for this season, and possibly later seasons if I make references to future events, and for previous reincarnations of the series.

#BreakTheInternet

Tristan is in a coma after the bus crash and Tristan essentially doesn't leave his side. He constantly posts updates to the school's Facerange page, but gets blocked because he's upsetting other students.

Zoe is doing well now that she's acting student body president, but she's still not out of the closet. Then she's faced with her first major issue when the refugee students are given a prayer room which was previously home to the GSA club. Zoe is accused of being homophobic, but she announces that she's gay.

Shay and Tiny are together now, but Lola is still not supportive as she's clinging to memories of them. Then she posts a picture of them together which upsets Shay. It turns into a back and forth on social media during class, which evolves into a mock trial! Ultimately, Lola just wanted someone to listen and that person turned out to be Miles.

#IWokeUpLikeThis

Maya is finally returning to school, but she's really not up for it. Jonah and Grace ask her to help with songs for the upcoming school play, and she un-enthusiastically agrees. She is blocked, and feels overwhelmed.

Things are hot and heavy between Zig and Esme, which he brags about, but everyone tells him she's crazy and a slut. Slut shaming is wrong! They definitely shouldn't be hooking up at school, but Esme giving her boyfriend a BJ is not a big deal. However, we do learn a lot about Esme's past and why she is the way she is.

All Inclusive needs to appeal to the female audience, so Yael is tasked with covering something more feminine, like makeup. They bging on Lola to help, but Yael is still not convince this is the way to go. Instead, she goes off on camera, putting down girls who do enjoy makeup. After talking it out, Yael realizes that girls can have different interests and still be worthy, so she invites Lola to be on the show.

#WorstGiftEver

Shay gets another embarrassing plotline when she starts her period during practice. Tiny adds to it by buying her boxes of pads and tampons under the advice of Esme. Wrong move, boy, but nice try. Mow Shay is worried about having another accident in public, but also wants revenge on Esme. I adore Shay, but I wish the show had done more with her character outside of these frivolous plots.

Goldi is sick of being expected to be the voice of Islam at school and realizes how different she is from other students when she invites Winston and Zoe to hang out with her and Rasha. She also realizes how different her beliefs are from Rasha's, despite them both being Muslim. Especially when Rasha decides to stop wearing her hijab. Goldi's tries taking hers off but doesn't feel like herself. It's okay to wear it! It's okay to not wear it! Your beliefs are inside you and in your actions.

Lola and Miles are still talking all the time and starts spending more time with her than sitting at Tristan's side.

#PicsOrItDidntHappen

Maya is finding inspiration in the dark side of life and then she meets Saad who has a camera full of photos of the war in Syria. She becomes addicted to watching traumatic news stories rather than sleeping and Saad takes staged photos of her on the bus and in a hospital bed. She is preoccupied with death and Saad enables her. This is an amazingly disturbing story.

Rasha auditions for the lead role in the play without realizing that it's a boy's part. Miles laughs at her, and she wonders why he let her audition. She confronts him and he asks her to come back and audition for the correct part. She doesn't want that part, so she points out the feelings are not exclusive to boys and how she relates. I love Rasha! Of course, Miles twists what she said to make it out that HE should play the lead because he relates. Once I start liking him, he does something like this.

Frankie wonders if boys and girls can be friends after Jonah won't let her see a text from Grace. So she hacks his Facerange, which he doesn't even have? Of course she doesn't like what she sees, since he called her immature. Lola translates this as sex. No, he means immature.

#HugeIfTrue

Frankie has Shay and Lola over for a sleepover! It's suppose to be just girls, but Shay wants to see Tiny and Frankie wants to see Jonah and Lola has....no one. Then Zig and Esme show up, as does Grace. So she goes to Miles. Dang. This night clearly did not go according to plan for anybody.

Hunter cancels a date with Yael when and Vijay show up. Yael comes with medicine, because he siad he's sick. Then they tell her that they're watching porn rather than what they're really up to: measuring their penises to see who's bigger. WTF.  Of course, they don't expect Yael to join in, because she still wants to be one of the guys, not just Hunter's girlfriend.

#ThatFeelingWhen

Lola joins the play which has Miles and her spending more time together. This is going to get messy, or is it? Lola and Miles have an understanding, which no one else is likely to understand. And then Tristan wakes up, putting an end to whatever that relationship was. Except, Lola realizes that she's been taking her birth control pills backwards, and OMG. I never would have thought of this, but it's important!

Winston wants to woo Rasha, but so does Zoe. The two do some sleuthing to uncover if she's gay or not. Zoe belives her gaydar is correct, but Goldi says that Islam is pretty clear about homosexuality being wrong. Luckily, Rasha is gay and likes Zoe!

Frankie is trying to get Jonah's attention after her failed seduction. I'm kind of sick of Frankie. She was the focus of the entire previous season and now she's taking over again! I think I would have liked this plot from Jonah's POV better because we haven't had a character involved in NA before.

#Unsubscribe

Grace needs a lung transplant, but even with it her lifespan will be severely reduced. She's also feeling super alone right now when she needs her friends the most. It's Jonah who tells her what she needs to hear. She also blocks Maya on Facerange because of her "death" portraits. That is not what she needs in her life right now.

Hunter gets a boner when Lola gets a little too close and now he wants her fired from the blog so Yael doesn't find out. So he schemes to make it seem like it's Yael's idea to get rid of Lola. That is not fair, but Yael is smart and figures out that things don't add up. Hunter comes clean and Yael is upset about the lies not the boner.

Rasha and Zoe are suppose to have their first date, but Goldi invites herself along because she doesn't realize it's a date. Rasha isn't ready to come out to Goldi, and Zoe is understanding, but still schemes to get Goldi off their date. Things seem to be looking up, until Zoe's mom catches them kissing.

#IRegretNothing

Lola takes a pregnancy test. It's positive which she fails to mention when she says Shay and Frankie won't need to throw her a baby shower. She's getting an abortion. Miles refused to take her, and then when Yael starts pestering her about their class project, Lola blurts it out and Yael goes with her. Boys suck. Lola doesn't feel bad for her decision, which makes her think she's a bad person. She's not. She uses the All Inclusive vlog to voice her feelings instead of talking about makeup.

Maya gets in trouble for her photoshoots, but she agrees to do whatever it takes to get back on track. But now she doesn't have her best friend, Grace, either. Zig gives her a listening ear, but she kisses him. This girl is deep into depression.

Mr. Simpson wants Miles to change the play in light of recent events. It's not the first time, and it won't be the last. Zoe reads over the revision and realizes that he hooked up with Lola.

#Woke

Zoe invites Rasha to her mom's wedding and opts to wear a tux to show her mom that she really is gay. Rasha wasn't actually invited, nor welcome, which upsets her. More upsetting is that Zoe's mom kicks her out of house for being gay, but Grace asks her to move in.

The continuation of Jonah and Frankie's "break." I DON'T CARE! They're not a good couple! I think the writers just ran out of pairing ideas. To take her mind off Jonah, she tries to help Hunter with Yael. But she takes away their first "I love you!" Girl! It looked like her and Jonah were going to be okay until he sees that's logged into his Facerange (seriously, when did he get one?!).

Maya is diagnosed with depression again, but it's much deeper than the first time and feels different. She doesn't believe that's the problem.

#ImSleep

Maya appears to be having a good idea, but looks can be deceiving. She's just a girl with a plan and she's going to carry it out after she takes care of some last minute business. This was inevitable, but still shocking.

Tristan comes to opening night of the play, and Miles tells him the truth about Lola. He's willing to forgive him and move past it though.

Goldi notices that Zoe and Rasha are both acting weird. Rasha tells her that it's because they broke up, and Goldi is shocked that Rasha is gay. But helps Zoe win her girl back!
