Degrassi: The Next Generation - Season 6 (2006-2007)

This post is going to contain spoilers for this season, and possibly later seasons if I make references to future events.

Here Comes Your Man (1)

A-Plot: Peter gets a new car for his birthday! And a second surprise comes in the form of Sean Cameron, back to stay! Keep Emma close, Peter. Surprisingly, Peter and Sean get along great, since they bond over cars. However, Peter gets into illegal street racing, much to Emma's dismay. But Sean is there to comfort her. YES!

B-Plot: Degrassi does college! They just can't let go of the original cast, and I don't blame them. It's time for Paige's going away party. Also, Darcy is back from Bible camp and it seems like she's forgiven Spinner for his misdeeds, but decides to confront Paige during her party. As we know, Degrassi parties never go well.

"If fun were people, I would be China." --Emma Nelson

Here Comes Your Man (2)

A-Plot: Sean starts snubbing Peter and trying to win Emma back from him. But she does ask for some space from Peter, who automatically assumes she's sleeping with Sean! Peter, your jerkside is showing! Again. Of course, they have to settle this issue like men: Peter frames Sean for drug possession, they street race, Sean hits a jogger (WTF is this guy out at night wearing dark colors?), and Jay has to step in to save Sean's butt.

B-Plot: Ellie meets her new, crazily upbeat, roommate! She also tries to get something published in the student paper, anonymously. But...when her name is printed, things go from bad to worse. Luckily, Marco and Dylan were looking for another roommate.

True Colors

A-Plot: It's time for Peter and Sean to go to court. Of course, Peter's dad used his connections and got Peter off with a slap on the wrist. Sean is not so luckily, until Emma steps in to help.

B-Plot:  Ellie's struggling to find her place within the student paper. And starts dating the hot editor.

Can't Hardly Wait

A-Plot: Another episode where Degrassi covers a difficult topic, that you likely won't see on any other teen show...Jimmy can't get an erection after the shooting. Maybe it'll happen, maybe it won't. Of course, he wishes it will especially since Ashley has made it known that she is ready to have sex with him. The scene of them sitting and waiting is so sweet and awkward.

B-Plot: Darcy begs Manny to come back to the Spirit Squad, and the two immediately bump heads with their ideas for the squad. Especially when it comes to Mia Jones. She's the best of the auditions, but when Darcy finds out she's a teen mom, she says she doesn't want her to join. Leading to the first mob fight, and the start of the Degrassi/Lakehurst feud.

Eyes Without a Face (1)

A-Plot: Darcy spends a lot of time on her My Room Page profile, which she winds up using to get them new uniforms. This is after her plot to get boys on the team fails, since only Peter is any good at it. He's also creeping on her profile, along with some guy called "adams." This is the second time Degrassi deals with internet predators. But instead of pretending to be a boyfriend, "adams" becomes a patron of Darcy's steamy fundraising photos.

B-Plot: JT and Liberty are back to bickering when he gets exciting about getting his old job at the kids' show back. Mia also takes notice of him, because her daughter loves the show. She's clearly interested, but JT is hesitant.

Eyes Without a Face (2)

A-Plot: Darcy's obsession with getting positive feedback from My Room is taking over her life. Peter also encourages her to keep posting photos, and he'll be her photographer, to keep the money rolling in. Darcy shows Spinner the pictures and he is not happy about it. I never thought I'd see the day where Spinner is more conservative than....anyone. I actually really liked them as a couple and wished it had lasted. They were good for each other. She helped him find forgiveness, and he calls her out on her hypocrisy.

Peter just keeps getting more and more gross as time goes on. He showed a softer side to Emma, but that is all being undone. I wanted to slap him myself after he told Darcy that he doesn't really know "adams." He basically sent the pervert to her home!

B-Plot: Ellie and Jessie are still going strong, but Ellie is worried about sex. She doesn't know how to talk about it, never mind actually doing it.

Working for the Weekend

A-Plot: The seniors get their career aptitude test results. Spinner's says "Clown, Police Officer, Lumberjack" while Jimmy and Ashley get lawyers. He has no career prospects, no girlfriend. But then he gets the idea to partner with Jimmy to take shirts with his designs on it. It goes really well at first, but then their shop is robbed. It teaches both of them a valuable lesson.

B-Plot: Alex may have graduated, but she's still putting up with high school crap while she improves her grades for university. Ms. Hatzilakos convinces her to join the lacrosse team to pad her application, but team sports don't really work for Alex. Especially when Sirina keeps harassing her for past bullying.

Crazy Little Thing Called Love

A-Plot: Sean is out of jail! And Emma is waiting for him, but that's about it. Luckily, he's able to find a job despite being a high school dropout with a record. It's there that Emma is faced with Jay and is reminded of what she did the year before and starts worrying about how Sean is going to take it when he finds out. This one covers double standards again. A topic that is worth beating everyone over the head with! Boys can do what they want, but a girl does the same and she's a slut? I don't think so!

Emma and Sean also have a real conversation about how to make this relationship work and grow. Sean also has a plan for his future. I have always been cheering for Sean to get things right. Not perfect, but just right enough to keep him going.

This is the point in the season where I realized that I did not remember this season at all. Sure I may have remembered certain little tidbits, but nothing that I knew was specifically Season 6.

B-Plot: Mr. Perino finally gets a plot. He is such a jerk! Every school has that one teacher. He's that one teacher, and he has it out for Danny and Derek. I applaud Derek for speaking up about this teacher's unacceptable behavior.

What's It Feel Like to Be a Ghost? (1)

A-Plot: Manny is so excited to have Craig back in town, but she isn't happy about having to share his time with their other friends. Especially since Ellie is still there mooning over him. Manny also catches Craig...snorting coke! WTF, Craig?! Then she wants a little taste when she feels like she can't keep up in their conversations.

B-Plot: JT is getting close to Mia, even helping with her daughter. Until Liberty spills all of the dirt about their baby, JT selling drugs, and nearly killing himself. Harsh Liberty.

What's It Feel Like to Be a Ghost? (2)

A-Plot: Craig lies to Ellie about this coke addiction, saying the baggie belongs to Manny. He also cruelly manipulates her feelings for him to server his addiction. Poor Ellie. But he can't hide it after his nose starts bleeding during a performance.

B-Plot: Lakehurst makes the war official. JT says he's going to handle it without anyone getting hurt. This hurts my heart, because I didn't realize this was happening so soon! I swear Mia and JT had been dating for awhile before this happened. Oh faulty memory.

Rock This Town

A-Plot: Manny wants to throw a party to take her mind of Craig, and uses Liberty's birthday as an excuse. It quickly evolves into a raging house party, with both Degrassi and Lakehurst students in attendance. And...do I really need to say it? JT dies. Violently. Right after realizing that he's in love with Liberty. These kids can never have a good party.

B-Plot: Emma has plans for her and Sean to finally have sex, which is a little derailed due to the party at the house. And Emma taking some liquid courage.

The Bitterest Pill

A-Plot: It's JT's funeral and it's not him at all. Liberty and Toby put together a memorial for him at school. The two also get a bit closer while dealing with their grief, but it's just comfort. Not romance.

I always resonated with this episode because Liberty doesn't cry at the funeral and Mia tells her that she's a robot. That is me. We all express ourselves (or not) in different way.s

B-Plot: Ellie is struggling with telling Jessie about her kiss with Craig. Then he admits that he cheated too. A nice filler plot to take the pressure off the main plot.

If You Leave

A-Plot: More shake-ups at Degrassi. Manny moves back home and has started dating Damian, despite him being from Lakehurst. The Spirit Squad is also on their way to being city finalists, but only if they beat Lakehurst. Of course, no one wants them to come to Degrassi for the competition. Especially Mia and Emma.

B-Plot: More Marco and Dylan issues. Dylan goes out every night and never wants to be with Marco. Of course, we all suspect Dylan of cheating. Again. Clearly, trust was never reestablished between these two.

Free Fallin' (1)

A-Plot: Paige suffers through panic attacks at Banting, and the whole university experience is just not going how she planned. Instead of using her weekend away to catch up in her classes, Paige reconnects with Alex and plays Solitaire. Then makes a Thanksgiving feast. Being a huge success in high school does not translate over into college. They are very different experiences. And let me speak from experience: a candle in the trash can turns into a mess real fast.

B-Plot: Darcy and Peter. Her savior complex is back in full force. She redeemed Spinner and now it's Peter's turn.

Free Fallin' (2)

A-Plot: Paige has to admit defeat when she's caught plagiarizing. I'm pretty sure this is the only episode that deals with buying essays online. It's always a bad idea though. Her professor was surprising chill about it, but Paige kicked herself out of school. Then she tries to throw herself into something familiar, but Alex has a girlfriend. I love them together! But I do now wonder if they only had Alex redo her senior year to keep her around to reconcile with Paige? I don't mind, but Alex's character deserves better.

B-Plot: Peter gets into major trouble when he's pulled over with a suspended license. And another girl who had written him off, sees how his home life isn't the most stable and falls back under his spell. Run, Darcy!

Love My Way

A-Plot: Paige is putting her new life together. She's moving into Dylan's old room and she's the new manager for Jimmy and Spinner's growing business. This introduces her to Jesse when she seeks advertising. He also just broken up with Ellie, sooo...cute and single? And so is Spinner. I love that they explored dating multiple people at once, but openly. You don't need to be locked down to one partner at 19. Or ever. But then there's still Alex...

B-Plot: After the events of 611, Sean and Emma are finally giving it another try. Emma even gets on birth control, the first mention of it on this show! They always push condoms, but birth control is a great way for a woman to be in control. But things get awkward when they run into Snake while picking up condoms. Mortifying! For him, not them. Never be embarrassed to protect yourself!

Sunglasses at Night

A-Plot: Gambling addiction! Degrassi covered gambling before when Ellie wanted to earn her own rent money, but she got out of it fast. Marco is in deep and under the guise of earning money for the store. Of course, he ends up losing more than money.

B-Plot: Peter is once again sneaking around with his girlfriend. This time it's Darcy. This boy is always in trouble.

Don't You Want Me (1)

A-Plot: When Alex's mom's boyfriend gets arrested, she needs to help her mom make ends meet. Jay to the rescue again! Well, Jay's new girlfriend who works at a strip club and let's Alex know that they're hiring. Server tips are nice, but it's not enough. Alex needs to get on stage.

B-Plot: Emma is trying to make plans for her future, including Sean. Except his future plans do not include her. He's joining the army. On top of that, Emma might be pregnant.

Don't You Want Me (2)

A-Plot: Well, she did it. Alex took her clothes off for money. But she got her girlfriend back! Palex forever! At least until Paige surprises her at work and sees Alex take the stage instead of quitting like she said she was. But Alex swallows her pride, quits the job, and accepts Paige's offer of help.

B-Plot: Sean wants to keep the baby, but he also tells Emma that he's still enlisting. Emma is not on board with this plan. I think it was very responsible of him, but I can understand Emma not wanting to be a teen mom and essentially a single mom with him being gone. Luckily, it was a false alarm.

And this season ends with some holiday cheer. This is the first season where the school year was split between two seasons.
