Degrassi - Season 13 (2013-2014)

This post is going to contain spoilers for this season, and possibly later seasons if I make references to future events.

It's a Whole New Degrassi

Summertime (1-2)

It' Summer vacation and things are already shaking up at Degrassi. Tori moved away, so now Tristan is claiming Maya as his new best friend and they promise no boys to come in between them. But then Zoe from WestDrive strolls in and Tristan can't help but want to be friends with her and totally leaving Maya out. Which leaves her open to meeting Miles. A clearly troubled boy, and she quickly realizes that she cannot be around him.

Meanwhile, Clare needs to something to keep her mind off of waiting for a diagnosis. Like sexting with Eli and possibly some video "chatting." But their session is interrupted when she finally gets the call that she's been dreading. Cancer and six weeks of chemo, without Eli. But once she's in the hospital, she realizes that she needs him, but he's already there. Yay, Eli! Their relationship started off super questionable, but I love where it's going.

Adam and Imogen are counselors at the day camp and bond over having a girlfriendless summer. However, before Becky leaves for Florida, she stakes her claim on Adam after Imogen implies that she likes him. And makes Adam promise to stay away from her. Dang, Becky! Imogen needs a friend! She's lonely!

All I Wanna Do

The Degrassi crew has arrived in Paris for their cultural immersion, and Tristan is bunking with Miles who catches him checking him out. Tristan is quick to claim that Maya is his girlfriend, since he believes Miles and Winston won't be okay with sharing a room with a gay boy. But that doesn't work out to well and Tristan tells Miles the truth and tries to make things work. They hug it out. The first hint of things to come.

Connor and Jenna are heading the Eiffel Tower, so what is Alli to do? She tries to get other students to go out with her, but they basically just want to do the same things they can do back home. I am concerned how they're letting 15-17 year tolds run around Paris unchaperoned with only basic French language skills. This is how Alli meets her future abuser! This could have been prevented if she was in a group with an adult! I just generally don't like these episodes. They feel out of place.

Clare is starting to lose her hair, so she shaves her head. She's worried about Eli dumping her as she gets more and more sick. He assures her that he's not going anywhere.

My Own Worst Enemy

Clare gets an MRI and is stressing while waiting for the results. She tries to throw herself into planning for the new school year, and then convinces Drew to sneak her out of the hospital. Bad idea. Good for her spirits, bad for her body. But her MRI is clear, so yay Clare is on the repair.

Tristan has his eyes on Miles and is determined to get him. Before Zoe does. Tristan gets a kiss in, but then catches him making out with Zoe. Tough luck.

Alli is slacking on her assignments by hanging out with Leo all the time. She's screwing up for a boy again. The weird thing is, she believes that her assignments are screwing up this budding relationship. No no no!

About a Girl

Adam thinks Becky is cheating on him after she breaks their video chat date to go with some dude name Tod to youth group. He gets obsessed with checking her social media which distracts him from his day camp responsibilities. He winds up losing a kid, but that doesn't stop him from continuing his sleuthing. It's weird seeing Drew as the responsible one for once while Adam goes off the rails for a girl. Losing her in the process.

Tristan has been avoiding class because of Zoe and Miles. Maya has a talk with Winston asking him to talk to Miles about his behavior with Zoe, which he won't. So she attempts some public humiliation. Instead she messes up her friendship with Tristan.

Seriously, where is the supervision?! Alli is running around Paris with a strange guy and no one says a thing. At least she brings Jenna and Connor on this date, but because she's worried about sex.

Cannonball

Tristan is missing, so Maya grabs Winston to go find him. They're having no luck, because they don't know their way around or speak French. They need Miles.

Adam wants Becky back, but Dallas is encouraging him to hook up with Imogen on their camping trip. They do, but Adam is not over Becky. So he takes off in one of the vans to get cell service to call her and becomes a statistic. I know the actress was leaving the show, so they made Adam's death a PSA on the dangers of texting and driving.

Alli feels responsible for breaking up Jenna and Connor, so to make it up to her, she brings her on a double date with Leo and his creepy friend. She is quite misguided. And I still really do not like these Paris episodes. The best part is Connor and Jenna talking about sex.

Honey

Alli isn't ready to leave Paris and Leo behind. It's more than just a summer romance to her. His grandparents walk in on them having sex. After that, he tells her that he's transferring to Toronto University. He also grabs her after reading a text from Dallas. Nope nope. Get away from him Alli! But this is just the beginning of a romance that drags on way too long and makes zero sense.

Adam is unconscious after his accident. He doesn't wake up.

Tristan gives Maya his blessing to go for Miles, and convinces her to buy a ridiculous dress for their outing, then return it. But Zoe immediately pores her drink into Maya's lap. She should have sat by Miles.

Young Forever

It's Adam's funeral. Drew blames Becky and himself. She throws a bonfire in Adam's honor.

Clare's CT scan is clear!

"How do you say goodbye to somebody who changed your life?" --Clare Edwards

Are You Ready to Get Schooled

This Is How We Do It

Drew is kicking off the school year in style, since he's not sleeping. Good for the school, bad for him. He's super motivated, and wants the school year to be all fun. Becky and Clare want to do something in Adam's honor, but he wants a dance.

Alli has a mystery date...with Leo. NO NO NO! I hate this storyline so much. I just can't.

Zoe is officially at Degrassi and she's not happy. She's worried about people finding out why she's no longer on West Drive. She should worry more about how she has no friends.

You Got Me

Zoe starts bragging about how she's going to the dance with Drew after he's been sleep-dialing her because of his medication. She approaches Zig to acquire some "things" and apparently he had a complete personality transplant?

Alli doesn't have the support of her friends since she got back with Leo. Clare encourages her to bring him to the dance so they can at least get to know him. It does not go well and I'm bored.

Drew is still struggling with sleep now that his pills have run out. He's also starting to struggle with the dance planning, having not read the student handbook on dance policies. Then Zoe bribes him using the pills she got from Zig. This girl. Back away Drew!

You Oughta Know

Clare writes an article about Zoe starting at Degrassi. Zoe acts like a total diva about it and exaggerates about her experience. Winston gives all the dirt though. Clare's also forgetting about assignments and words. Thanks, chemo brain.

Imogen wants to start up Degrassi TV but needs to find an anchor. Becky was the only good audition, but Imogen chooses Winston instead of her. Becky really wants to be involved, and Imogen really doesn't want her to be.

Miles makes the basketball team, but not the "right" position for his dad to be happy, so he starts taking steroids.

Everything You've Done Wrong

Tristan is giving the basketball team fake steroids. It's very Space Jam.

Clare wrote a fake article about Zoe and is going to lie and say she got a better offer so she doesn't have to turn it in. But she does and now it's time to fact check! Uh oh.

Beck wants to know what happened the night Adam died, and Imogen lies to her about it.

Who Do You Think You Are

Zoe offers to direct a music video for Maya. This could be amazing, since she also gets them the West Drive set and a sexy costar....or really bad. It's definitely way sexier than what she had in mind and upsets Miles. It also gets her an awful fan page focusing on her semi-nudity rather than talent.

Drew is frustrated at Dallas for skipping school to get drunk and hook up, bailing on their class project.

Alli is struggling to choose between going to MIT and staying local for Leo. She starts filling out college and visa applications for him, and he slaps her. They break up again. I am sick of this plot!!! STOP!!!

Barely Breathing

NOOOW Alli wants to focus on her studies. And gets back with Leo.

Maya's mother goes to Mr. Simpson about her bullying, and Miles hires Grace to find out who set up the fan page. Of course it was Zoe. Maya gets her revenge by writing a song about Zoe dying. A bit too far.

Drew finds out that Dallas was cut from the hockey team.

Black or White

Drew's presidency is being questioned on air by Winston and he's not going to take it. He fires him and then Imogen quits. Then he has protests on his hands and calls for impeachment. I do believe that Drew is trying his best, but he does need to listen more.

Clare is planning a special night for her an Eli, but he falls asleep and takes mysterious phone calls. And he's a smoker?! She sits him down to talk about it, but he thinks she's talking about something else. Which is how he admits to cheating with his editor.

Tristan is upset that he didn't get the monologue that he wanted, because the teacher called him flamboyant. He tries to do the comedic role as a drama and gets a 0. After thinking about it, he does the assignment the correct way and aces it. I liked his Hamlet-esque version better.

Spiderwebs

Drew finds out that Bianca is back in town but didn't tell him. What does that mean?! Everyone says it's because she wants to dump him. And everyone is correct. He asks her to still come to the feast and pretend to be together. But he realizes that that isn't going to work out.

Zoe's comedy troupe is performing at the family feast, but Tristan hasn't told Maya about it yet. When he does, she shows up with the intent of humiliating Zoe. Tristan wants a truce!

Clare doesn't know what to do about Eli. Can she trust him? Do they break up? Does she kiss Drew?

More Secrets More Betrayals More Scandals More Degrassi

The World I Know

Leo is getting deported! Yes! Or not, because tomorrow is Alli's 18th birthday, so they can get married. I can't. She doesn't want her parents to know or to move in with Leo, which makes him mad and assault her. She really did not think this out, and he has no reason to beat her like that.

Maya gets put into the "rubber room" for her school trouble. I honestly don't think she belongs there. But it does reunite her with Zig who is very bitter.

Drew tells Dallas about kissing Clare and then confronts Clare about being in love with him. She's not.

Better Man

Maya is trying to fit in in the "rubber room" by giving herself a makeover. It takes over her personality too. At least until they mess with her during an "initiation."

Alli tells the police that she was mugged, but she admits the truth to Jenna. She tells Leo she wants an anullment or she's going to the cops, but then he shows up at her school.

Drew asks Zoe for help in landing a job with Mr. Hollingsworth, but her tongue down his throat is quite distracting.

Dig Me Out

Drew and Zoe play tonsil hockey and have sex. She assumes they're dating and invites herself to poker night. He tries to "break up" with her but she cries about him being her first, so he makes them official. Yikes.

Leo is out on bail and Alli has to wear flats. She can't do Science with one arm. Is this done yet?

Imogen gets in trouble for not wearing a bra to school. I hate dress code double standards. How is it a girl's fault that boys can't keep their eyes to themselves?

Power to the People

Zoe is clingy and interfering with Drew trying to impress Mr. Hollingsworth. He breaks up with her. Kind of. I remember when I dumped this guy and he thought we were still together the next day. Awkward.

Imogen has start a movement to abolish the sexist dress code! And it works!

Jenna suggest Alli go to therapy. She needs someone to talk to, but she won't talk to her friends. She even gives up Science!

No Surprises

Miles is putting his father's campaign "in jeopardy" by having Maya over to skinny dip. So she volunteers to help with this campaign posters, which is when Miles catches his dad with another woman! His mom already knows.

Alli has been hanging out with Dallas and his son. He tries asking her out again, but she is not ready to date again. She explains what happened with Leo and he does not take it well.

Clare wants to go skydiving! Eli can't go though, because school work. So Connor says to invite Drew. Whom she is lusting over. Drama!

Basket Case

Clare has a sexy dream about Drew! Funny how she never dreams about Eli.

Miles is acting out and going to throw a huge party, but he needs to keep Drew busy so he makes up more campaign tasks. He has a fight with Maya about it, and then takes off to apologize after Zoe comes onto him then passes out...

Dallas stops himself from doing something he'll regret to Leo, but he still wants him to know the pain he caused Alli.

Unbelievable (1-2)

Zoe wakes up naked in the pool house and can't remember anything from the party. She doesn't know anything even happened until Becky showed her evidence to Mr. Simpson and he calls the police. Afterward, the school is mad at Zoe because the pep rally is cancelled since they know one of the guys was on the basketball team. Degrassi once again handles victim blaming very well. It is NOT Zoe's fault!

Becky wants to get on Degrassi TV to give a PSA on underage drinking, but no one is willing to admit that they drink on camera. Then a video of a drunken Zoe with two mystery guys appears online, so Becky is on the case! But this is not a situation for a teen journalist, so the police get involved. She still comes up with a plan to flush them out, and all evidence points to her brother. Becky does not want to believe it, but it's all right there in his phone.

Miles apologizes to Maya by performing in the Degrassi Sing Off! But then she finds out that he was with Zoe that night, but doesn't know what really happened. Zoe is also very understandably mad at him because he did nothing. He left her there, alone and incoherent. He take it to heart and walks off the basketball team.

What It's Like

Maya is working hard to get out of the rubber room, but someone stole her laptop! Probably Zig, so she and Miles start following him around. She sees him possibly breaking into a house, but Miles say he's probably squatting. Which is how we find out that Zig is homeless and Maya invites him to stay with her.

Jenna wants to enter herself and Connor for the formal king and queen, but would anyone vote for them? I would! After Jenna gives Connor a hot makeover, the whole school will too!

Jack appears and Imogen is immediately smitten, and Becky feels like their friendship is threatened. So she asks her to the semi-formal. Imogen is shocked and thinks Becky is asking her out. Awkward.

Close to Me

Miles does not like having Zig living with Maya. And Zig just doesn't like Miles. Maya wants them to all be friends, but that doesn't look like it's going to happen as long as Zig is still in love with her.

Jenna doesn't like all of the attention Connor is getting now. But the win! And Jenna bursts out of her dress.

The Becky and Jack rivalry! Jack wants to go to the dance with Imogen and feels like Becky is leading her on. Imogen is relieved when Becky tells the truth.

Army of Me

Alli is ready for the science fair, along with Dallas. But after an explosion, he's detained for questioning. Then he and Connor are pulled over. Degrassi does racial profiling again! Dallas realizes what's going on, but Connor doesn't.

Becky informs Clare that the whole school thinks she's dating Drew. So she sets out to get him a girlfriend! But when Imogen says Clare isn't Drew's type, she makes herself a dating profile to see if Drew would go for her. He doesn't. He calls that profile boring.

Tristan wants to join this writing collective set up by new teacher, Mr. Yates. He doesn't get an invite, but Zoe does, so he follows her to their secret meeting. He gets in anyway, because Mr. Yates likes him.

Everything is Everything

Dallas wants to forget about that whole awful day, and just get on with the science fair. He just tells Alli that they had car trouble. But it happens again when one of the judges tells him to get away from Alli's project, because his name isn't on it. He stands up for himself though, but puts Alli's project in jeopardy.

Drew goes on his date with Eden and Clare is jealous. She chats up Eden and mentions him not being over Bianca. Not cool, Clare. He confronts Clare about it and lets her know that he just didn't go for the fake profile because he knew it was Clare, who has a boyfriend.

Tristan starts copying Mr. Yates' style and generally obsessing over him while bombing the assignments.

Sparks Will Fly (1-2)

Miles sends Maya gifts to win her back. She agrees as long as they keep it secret from Zig. Obviously this isn't going to work. Especially after Zig beats up Miles, and then Miles pulls a fake gun on him. These boys are not good for Maya and she knows it.

Zoe is asked to join the quiz team to earn extra credit. It turns out that she has a photographic memory. She's also trying to get some roles, which is why her grades are suffering. But after channeling her assault, she gets this victim role. And after reading the script, she doesn't like how it ends, so she tries to change it to something more empowering.

Eli bails on Clare again, but I mean, he's busy with school in New York! He can't just appear when she snaps her fingers. Drew can, and does, when a rat is running around her living room. Clare breaks up with Eli over a voice mail and then has sex with Drew. And Eli shows up. Drew refuses to be her rebound though. He wants something real.

Heartbreaks & Broken Promises

You Are Not Alone

Maya wants to change the reputation of the rubber room kids while simultaneously keeping Zig out of trouble. But she gets him in serious trouble when she finds weed in his bag and flushes it.

Winston starts a comic book club to meet girls. Frankie signs up, but she's his best friend's younger sister. Off limits! They make out.

Clare joins the triathalon club despite no one wanting to join with her. That's where she meets Jack, who invites her to ax throwing as a way to let out her frustrations.

Enjoy the Silence

Miles finds out that Frankie made out with an older boy and enlists Winston to help him find out who. Winston says it was Damon and now Miles wants to beat him up. Oops.

Maya is trying to keep Zig safe by making out with him to twist him tighter around her finger. But that doesn't work. Miles steps in to help, since his dad is working to help get kids out of gangs.

Clare is keeping busy to avoid Drew, but then Jack helps her plot revenge. That fails. I honestly don't understand this plot at all. She's acting like Drew rejected her straight out. He didn't want to get involved in her rebound Eli drama, which is very understandable. He doesn't owe her anything just because they had sex. At least at the end she realizes that she doesn't need a boy in her life.

How Bizarre

Alli and Jenna are mad at Drew on Clare's behalf and he's trying to explain himself to them when Mrs. Hollingsworth starts sexting him! This whole plot is just...bizarre. Drew does not need to explain himself. He didn't do anything wrong. And to ruin his "apology" by setting a naked photo of his boss's wife just came out of nowhere. He tells Mr. Hollingsworth and winds up getting fired.

Becky is struggling with her family after Luke's arrest. They blame her for him possibly going to jail, so she escapes into an online game where she meets her knight in shining armor. She becomes obsessed with the game and lives vicariously through her character.

Zig gets a job at a restaurant and feels like they don't respect him. But, he just needs to learn the ropes. Everyone starts at the bottom.

My Hero

Drew wants his job back! That meeting doesn't go well. Then he's approached by a reporter who wants to expose this story.

Becky is totally smitten with her online boyfriend, but she finds out that it's Hunter. Ew.  He's really creepy about their "break up." Becky realizes that she needs to get a real life and get offline. She talks to her mom about how she hasn't been feeling like part of the family. Then her mom says she needs to defend Luke at the trial because they're family. Majorly gross.

Zig is suppose to meet with his mom for the first time in months, but he goes to work instead, where he's distracted. In the end, his mom comes to the Matlin's house for dinner and they talk about their situation.

Hypnotize

Tristan is ecstatic when Mr. Yates compliments his musical audition for the fashion show MC. His crush just keeps growing, so he asks him to help write his banter to get closer to him. Mr. Yates agrees, but they have to do it at his apartment. And Tristan gets what he thinks he wants, but runs out when things go too far. However, he doesn't want to be seen as immature, so he comes back the next night...

Frankie is trying out to be a model but Winston says he didn't think that was her thing. She starts question what that means. Is she not pretty enough? She doesn't make the show and believes something must be wrong with her. But after talking with Becky, she gets in.

Becky pushes Imogen to ask Jack out herself instead of pining away! They have a great time, but Imogen is changing herself to impress Jack.

Out of My Head

Imogen freaks out when Jack says her designs are nice, causing her to redo everything the day before the fashion show. She is desperate for Jack's approval, since she's seen as super cool. Her new collection is terrible.

Frankie is question why Becky changed her mind. Did her mom buy her way in? She asks Becky and said it's because Winston refused to film it if she was involved, but that didn't sit right with her. Dammit, Winston.

Tristan tells Maya about him and Mr. Yates, and makes her promise not to tell once she freaks out about it. We all know Maya is not going to let this go on.

Believe (1-2)

It's time for Zoe's trial and she's feeling confident, but she doesn't like the reporters following her around and twisting the story. This is also when we find out why Zoe isn't on West Drive anymore. She had a drug problem, and that party girl image might hurt the trial.

Becky is conflicted about how her brother is being portrayed. The lawyer is also coaching her on what to say during the trial, which looks suspiciously like lying. She wants to support him, but ultimately she knows he did the wrong thing. She also gets lost in the woods with Drew, because...?

Miles is working to get Maya back, but he doesn't want to tell her the truth about what happened at the party. He even asks Winston to lie in the trial, which he does not. This boy is so bad for Maya. He needs to stop.

Vince comes looking for Zig and pulls him back into the gang.

Thunderstruck (1-2)

Drew has feelings for Becky, which is realizes when she goes missing during the storm.

Zig agrees to go to the dance with Maya and Zoe. Oops. But the dance is cancelled because of a storm, and the three get drunk at Maya's house. Maya runs out into the storm, Zoe follows, they take shelter in The Dot and bond.

Clare is on her way to New York, but says she's not going to see Eli. Then she passes out, gets stitches in her head, and nearly misses her interview at Columbia. Well, it's rescheduled to the next morning, which means Clare needs somewhere to stay for the night. And finds out that she's pregnant.

Tristan finds out that Mr. Yates had groped Winston which makes him believe he's unlovable. Until Miles kisses him again.
