Degrassi - Season 12 (2012-2013)

This post is going to contain spoilers for this season, and possibly later seasons if I make references to future events.

 Showdown

Come As You Are (1-2)

Degrassi is uniform free! Thank goodness! They're also hosting a junior. hockey team. Much drama and sadness to come...

Drew was suppose to break up with Katie when she was done with rehab, but he chickened out. Then when he finally does, he lies about who he's dumping her for. Katie is convinced he's just making a mistake, and then he does make a big mistake. They have sex. Bianca deserves better than that, and so does Katie. Unfortunately, Drew drunkenly falls down the stairs and doesn't remember much, and dumps Katie for good. I am 100% team Drianca. Yes, they may not have had the best start, but I like them together.

Clare and Eli reunite! After much confusing signals on his part. They two do talk it out though, so yay. Clare is excited to go on their second first date, but her co-op starts the same night! Of course, she chooses her internship over her relationship. Luckily, she and Eli talk it out and he let's her know that it's okay. It's healthy for them to have their own interests outside of each other.

Maya is still on the hunt for a band! She's also being teased for being flat chested. Both of which collide when she approaches Mo about audition for his band and he says he had a more "mature" look in mind. Manny Santos makeover 2.0? Not exactly. She's fully covered, but stuffs her bra which falls out during her audition. Oopsie.

Gives You Hell (1-2)

Katie is trying to get her life back on track, but she's still broken up about Drew. She confides in Marisol about them having sex, which of course means the whole school has to find out. But first, try out a new boy: Jake! Those two make so much more sense than Katie and Drew. He takes her out to let out her frustrations...on Bianca's car. Then she edits in Drew's drunk confession into a presentation for the whole school. Brutal. The type A Katie is going off the rails and she likes it. Meanwhile, Drew is trying to win Bianca back with his brain rather than his brawn. It starts out well, but then Drew realize that something is really wrong with his brain. That cage match from last season has finally caught up to him.

Maya meets Campbell and I couldn't help but jumping ahead. I never saw this plot thread coming. But we're not there yet. Instead, we have Tristan being incapable of talking to cute boys. He uses Maya to do it. Or at least her FaceRange account. Of course, he has to slip up sometime. I feel awful for Campbell, because he was clearly lonely and into the friendship. And it's made worse since I know where this ends up!

Eli is assigned to collaborate with the sunny Becky Baker on the next school play! They have completely different visions, but Becky knows how to play dirty while still being perfectly pleasant. It's scary and I like it. Eli has met his match and tensions are high, especially when it's clear that Becky is a bigot. She quits though.

Got Your Money (1-2)

We learn that Zig is poor. He's still wearing his uniform pants, which Tori points out, and offers to take him shopping. Instead, Zig digs through the lost and found for some "new" clothes. He also gets Tori an ugly, cheap bracelet from his family's store for Tori's anniversary gift. Then he tries to treat her to a nice dinner, that he can't afford (she's offers to split the bill), so they dine and dash. Too bad their server was Marisol.

Fiona is back from New York and Imogen is happy to see her! Fiona is out and proud, but Imogen is more hesitant. Especially when Dallas starts making disgusting comments. Fiona also feels like Imogen doesn't want to spend any time with her since she has all these separate interests, like the band. Fiona's plan? Throw a dance, so Imogen and the band can play at it! And they can all live happily ever after! And Fiona and Dallas can become BFFs?

Dave is excited to be the lead in the school play, until he finds out that the play has been changed to Romeo and Jules. He doesn't know how to "play gay" so he starts mimicking Tristan. Dave has come along way in terms of his tolerance, but he still struggles with being insensitive and ignorant. At least he's working on it. And didn't we learn that Dave can't sing, back when Wesley and Connor wanted to start a band? Anyway, Becky also manages to get into Dave's head about everyone thinking he might be gay because of the play. Which he's not, and he's finally going to have sex with Alli!

Say It Ain't So (1-2)

Alli has a chance to graduate early and attend MIT with a scholarship, but boys. It's always a boy! Dave isn't even worth turning that down! Thankfully, he's reasonable and doesn't ask her to, but we know how Alli's brain malfunctions when it comes to her latest love interest. Like forgetting her BC pill and having unprotected sex. Then telling her mom that the pregnancy test she dropped must be Jenna's. I know she's scared and just panicked, but she always does this! She does come to her sense at the end though, and does what's best for her.

Katie has a new look and a new love interest. They couldn't be anymore different though. Katie is all about going to college and going out on her own. Jake isn't going to college and is going to stay in town to work with his dad. At least, that's how it works out in his own head. He dad wants him to go to school. Katie encourages him to show his dad that he knows what's hes doing, and asks him to pretend to be her boyfriend. Turned school garden and real relationship.

Cam does not fit in with the other ice hockey players. And he doesn't use his hockey talent to pick up girls. This boy cannot catch a break making friends. He is struggling being away from home and being cast as this big sports star. His crush on Maya is adorable, but I want to stop this before it begins! I know it's too late, but they really went hard with this plot.

Closer to Free (1-2)

Becky wants to be friends with Jenna! They're both bubbly and sing! That's the extent of their similarities, but Jenna's feeling lonely so she gives her a chance. And that's how she ends up storming out of Friendship Club 2.0. Then she meets Luke, and wants to get close to him, through Christianity. Of course, this is before we know that Luke is a creep. We know he's a jerk, but whatever. But...maybe Becky and Jesus are what she really needs to find her way again?

The aftermath of Drew's concussion. He's not allowed to participate in PE, which is how he starts chatting with Fiona who is also sitting out. She needs a roommate and he needs freedom. He first winds up getting a job at the mall. Then when his mom freaks out, he drops out of school and moves in with Fiona. Good job, Drew. Minus the dropping out.

Clare is learning so much from Asher at her internship, but it is not translating well into high school geography. Which causes her classmates to tweet #ThingsClareSays, which now distracts her and gets her in trouble at work. Clare seriously needs to learn how to take herself less seriously.

Waterfalls (1-2)

Clare is desperate to be taken more seriously at her internship and make the most of his opportunity. She certainly isn't taking her self less seriously and she's constantly thinking the worst. She does fear that she overstepped, but...Asher is the only one crossing boundaries when he kisses Clare during an editing session. Of course, she feels like it's her fault, as all us girls do. IT IS NOT YOUR FAULT. She does come to this realization when he nearly attacks her in his car, and then he lies to HR and says she was inappropriate with him! JACKASS!

KC notices that his mom and Bianca get along well, so he asks her to help hook his mom up with their quiz team adviser. It didn't work out the first time, but these two won't give up. And then...KC's dad calls. He's getting out of jail and wants to meet him.

Cam and Maya have their first date! But not their first kiss, much to Maya's embarrassment. She wants to try again though by acting like a "puck bunny" and accidentally kissing his ear. They are so sweet and innocent and talk about feelings and they really could have been something special, but I understand...

Rusty Cage (1-2)

Cam takes hockey way too seriously, but he's convinced that it's the only thing that he's good at. And lately he's been off his game, so what is he suppose to do? Drink a gallon of milk, obviously. That seems weird, but he's lactose intolerant, so this is an act of self-harm for him. It makes him sick enough that he can't practice. Instead he goes to karaoke with Maya, and now she's pushing him to sing just like he's been pushed to play hockey. He wants a break! Let him breathe! He does get his break, by jumping off the balcony and breaking his arm. A "legit" reasons to not have to play. No more pressure.

Fiona and Imogen are adorable and going strong, except for Imogen never inviting Fiona over. Luckily, Fiona still has her condo. Unfortunately, she's now sharing it with Drew and the two are arguing over whose mess this is, instead of just cleaning it up! Then Drew does clean up. His half, leaving the apartment still disgusting because Fiona is the slob, not him. Audra did not raise messy boys. Fiona has to face the fact that she's always had someone to do these things for her, and now she has to be self sufficient.

KC is nervous to see his dad for the first time in years. He seems to have changed and even asked KC to help him write his resume and find a job. But then he brings some wine to celebrate, despite his mom not drinking. She admits her mistake and asks Kevin to stay away, which doesn't work. The only solution is to go away themselves. This came out of nowhere, but it was the best decision for these characters.

Never Ever (1-2)

Imogen has designed an amazing set for the upcoming musical, but it's not in the budget. This is the project of her dreams, so she needs to step into a nightmare. Voluntarily having lunch with her rich mother. Also, dealing with her sick father after he shows up to Degrassi in his robe. She plays him off as eccentric and forgetful, and invites Fiona over for dinner so she can fully understand. And then...this episode shocked and wrecked me the first time. It's the second instance of accidental pet death, but this one was so much worse. We get to see a whole different side to Imogen in this episode as she's very cold toward her mother during everything, and stressed about her dad and her responsibility for the play. I think this is the most Imogen we've gotten since she was introduced.

Gardening is doing Katie a lot of good. Or is it spending time with Jake? She thinks he only sees her as a friend though, or he's going to cheat on her. Instead, she goes golfing with Dallas! It's a sport that she can do after her soccer career was ripped from her. And Jake is jealous! These two fight like a couple already! The most interesting part of this plot for me was that Dallas was genuinely into Katie and was also trying to help her find something to channel energy into. Not that she's required to like him back because of that, but I do wonder what would have happened if she chose him instead.

Meanwhile, Becky is stressing about the musical. She wants to be doing good and helping society, not promoting this "sinful" production. So she starts a fundraiser and puts up her table right by the ticket sales for the play. Adam calls out her hypocrisy, since she makes it clear this is about revenge and not starving families. Oops. She fixes her mistake and Adam asks her out. Then she learns that he's trans and...uh oh. What about her beliefs?

Sabotage (1-2)

Clare is deadset on finding another victim of Asher's abuse. She's been pretending that she's still working at the paper, but really she's putting together the evidence against him. Too bad none of the other interns are willing to speak to her about it. Solution? Get drunk with Dallas! And lose her shoes? Then actually talk it out with Jake and Katie, who admit that Dallas is also the one who wrecked the garden. So she throws herself into a new article, getting detention for the whole team. War is on. Meanwhile, Eli tries to get her internship back, not knowing the real reason she isn't there anymore.

Drew is feeling lonely and left since he left school, so he tries to make up for it by flashing his money. He buys a new 3D TV for the loft which distracts everyone from their study group. Much to Bianca's annoyance. She's managed to pull her life together, and she wishes the same for him. Drew's solution? Buying a motorcycle! This boy! He comes to his senses, sells the motorcycle, and PROPOSES! Bianca says yes, which just shocks me. She has worked so hard to not become a statistic and then this.

Alli is super busy with school work, so she doesn't come to cheer Dave on during a contest for a role on West Drive. Of course, he wins, along with free pizza and doesn't invite Alli to celebrate. She's too busy anyway, right?

Scream (1-2)

The play is coming up fast and Elli is overextended from also helping Clare gather evidence against Asher. Now he also has to deal with the production potentially being shut down because of concerned parents and students. Including Dallas who is out for revenge by pointing out that the play glorifies suicide. Eli is enlightened to his mistake and oddly agrees to fix it. The Eli of last season would not have taken that meeting so well.

Then this plot switches to being Clare focused as Eli does the right thing by reporting what happened to Clare to Miss Oh. Clare is understandably upset, especially after Eli refuses to help her plant false evidence on Asher's computer before she meets with the cops. Katie agrees to help though. This is all wrong! Not to mention that he plan is awful and doesn't really make sense. She's going to plan topless photos of herself, which just makes Asher's story look true. Yes, she's underaged and he shouldn't have them, but...she comes to her senses but still gets what she was looking for in the beginning.

Becky wants to protest Romeo + Jules, but Dallas convinces her that her homophobic signs are not the way to do it. Then she's paired with Adam on a Science project, where he once again points out her hypocrisy as a Christian. And he gives her some real truths about how her words have hurt teens like him before.

Tristan doesn't want his first kiss to be with Dave during the play! So he is on the prowl to find a cute boy to kiss him. He gets a note from a secret admirer and goes to meet him before the play. Unfortunately, it's a cruel prank pulled by Luke to make Tristan miss the play and get it cancelled. Because she feels at fault, Becky volunteers to go on as Jules. Bravo Becky. She has seen the light! Finally some happy tears for this show.

Building a Mystery (1-2)

Becky has it bad for Adam! It's so cute! She feels like she lost her chance since she had turned him down before. So she's going to ask him out herself, which doesn't go well. But she does get him close, by asking the band to perform at the auction and to help her get donations. Luke has to burst her happy bubble though by reminding her of their parents. But this girl will not let that stop her, and asks Adam to be her secret boyfriend and is honest about why. Adam is just thrilled that she has no issue with him. But Becky is a horrible liar, so her dad asks to meet Adam before they can date. The first meeting goes good, but then the truth about Adam being trans comes out and Becky has to end it after her parents convince her that she's confused. These two are my other favorite couple, just behind Manny and Jay.

Eli is making a short film to impress a visiting director whom he hopes to get a letter of recommendation from and he is desperately overthinking it. Jake has a genius concept right away to Eli asks him how. Marijuana, of course! Needless to say, his film is the worst. Eli has talent and he just needs to go with the flow.

Bianca is hiding her engagement ring, since she doesn't want the news to get out before they can convince his mom. He doesn't want to tell her, but Bianca and Audra are close and she doesn't want to lie. We all know how that conversation goes. Bianca tries to talk to her without Drew, and comes out of it feeling even more determined to marry Drew, since she feels like Audra disapproves of her, not the wedding.

Doll Parts (1-2)

Maya is feeling rejected by Cam since he'd rather study than makeout with her. She feels undesirable, so Tori gives her a makeover! For a beauty pageant. And Cam laughs and says that it's not her. She assumes that he doesn't think she's pretty, rather than he likes her the way she is. Not done up like a doll. Zig seems to like her though. But then she does better in her first pageant than Tori did when she started and kisses Zig after breaking up with Cam. Way to ruin your friendship with Tori, Maya.

Adam is asking for testosterone again to help build muscle and generally be more like who he wants to be. Audra is still saying no. He also needs her to sign his permission slip to play volleyball, but she's so worried about him getting hurt that he forges her signature instead of adding to her worry. But after getting is nose broken, she finds out and agrees to be at his games. And wants to look into getting him testosterone.

Marisol is convinced that Mo is hiding something from her, but she doesn't want to ask him about it and come across has the overbearing girlfriend. So she tells him a secret in hopes that he'll tell her one. He doesn't, so she goes through his bag and finds a needle. Of course, she assumes that he's on drugs rather than that he's diabetic. The first character on the show to have the disease. Marisol handles the truth surprisingly well.

I Want It That Way (1-2)

Alli's parents got her a car! Even though she doesn't go anywhere except to school. No room for fun in her new schedule. Except maybe a Jay-Z concert with Dave, whom she still has feelings for. Do not screw up your studies for a boy! Well she doesn't, and loses Dave again. But she picks up Dallas. He's always there the damsels in distress and offering bad advice, like using pills to stay awake. Then crashing her car after not sleeping for a week. Maybe all this extra work to get into MIT wasn't the best decision.

Tristan wants another acting role, but Eli lets him know that it's physically demanding. So Tristan goes into training, by joining the yoga club. With that hot guy from the musical. And gets discouraged when he can't do the poses as well as the other students. As a yogi, it is not about the pose! But Tristan decides to do a cleanse in order to lose weight fast and get the love of his life! He takes things too far and has a heart attack.

Fiona officially meets Imogen's mom and it does not go well once she finds out that Fiona lives alone. Fiona tries really hard to have a relationship with her, but Imogen doesn't like it. She barely has a relationship with her mom, so why should Fiona? Of course, she realizes that she's missing her own mother, so after helping Imogen connect with hers, she hops a bus to New York.

Tonight, Tonight (1-2)

Whisper Hug made it to the Battle of the Bands! Adam also got the number of a hot chick and has a hot date! And Becky has been trying to talk to him. She even runs into while he's on his date and tells him that the conversation therapy didn't change her feelings for him. Too bad it did change his feelings for her. Doubly too bad, Missy was using him to find out what song his band was doing. This is also the episode where Adam gets to meet Chaz Bono. He also gets Becky back and she tells her dad immediately. Good luck, lovers.

Tori comes to Maya when she fears that Zig like another girl. Maya has some words with Zig to make sure he's nice to Tori. But...their dirty little secret comes out after Zig decides he wants to break up with Tori because he does like Maya.

Clare's mom asks Eli to leave, because no guests after 8PM. But Jake is allowed to have Katie stay over? Not fair! But a workaround is to have Jake invite Eli over, so he can stay. Too bad her mom wants to hang out that night. Then Jake and Eli get high, and her mom finds the weed and banishes Eli. Clare rats out Jake though. Time for a family meeting, which does not go the way that anybody wants. But ultimately gives Clare more freedom when her mom realizes she's not being fair.

Degrassi: Las Vegas (1-2)

It's Spring Break, which means it's time for Bianca and Drew to get married! Drew seems to be having second thoughts though, since he wishes he family could be there to support them. Meanwhile, Katie got accepted into Stanford, but her family can't afford the tuition. She's determine to forget about it and have fun in Mexico with her friends. But more bad news. The flight is cancelled because of a hurricane. Katie suggests they change their reservations to Las Vegas so she can try her luck at winning her tuition. Of course, both groups are on the same flight, and Drew invites Katie and gang to the wedding, much to Bianca's dismay. It's going to be a fun vacation.

It quickly becomes clear that Drew and Bianca are making a mistake. Drew isn't having the best time with his mini bachelor party, which consists of his brother and two guys he barely knows. So he calls his mom. Drew finally does the right thing. He usually does, but it takes him forever to get there. Bianca is also nervous as heck, so definitely the right thing.

Katie seems to be having a better night, since she meets the creator of FaceRange who gives her $1,000 to play with. Kinda cheap, but a lot to Katie. But she loses it all. Quickly. She tries to get a job with Mr. FanceRange, he declines, but does offer $5,000 to spend a day with her and get some "ideas."  Plus another $20,000 for sex. I'd do it. Katie does not. She loses Jake anyway, because she makes a rude comment about him being high all the time. Which is true.

One question. Didn't Becky get SEVEN tickets for the auction? Drew, Bianca, Adam, Fiona, and Imogen makes five...

Anything Could Happen

Bitter Sweet Symphony (1-2)

There's tension between Cam, Zig, and Maya now and it's getting to Cam. He completely freaks out on Zig during a floor hockey game. He claims it was an accident, but Maya admits it wasn't. Dallas goes off on him for putting the team in jeopardy, and Cam admits that he doesn't even want to play. Then he vents to Alli who advises him to focus on making up with Maya, which was great advice and it lifts both their spirits. Until Zig gets into his head again. And then Cam is gone. Forever. So is the Maya we once knew.

Eli offers to share his locker with Clare after she has to move due to construction. It's kinda like a test run of moving in together. Of course, he finds her diary (who keeps their diary at school?!) and reads some old entries about her being in love with Jake. Clare is mad at him, but he apologizes. None of this matters though, after Eli finds Cam's body.

Dallas wants to ask Alli on a date, but she's hesitant. He makes a bet with her. If his Spirit Week team wins, she'll go out with him. A little friendly competition never hurt. But Alli calls the bet off when she finds out how awful he was to Cam. That is not the kind of guy she wants to be with. Again, none of this matters once Cam is dead. Dallas yells at Alli for not helping him, but he really blames himself for being so hard on him.

Ray of Light (1-2)

Eli's Zombie film is on hold due to recent circumstances, so Fiona assigns him to film the video yearbook. It's going well until he comes across some footage of Cam and Maya. He believes that he attracts death, so he talks to a counselor. She encourages him to focus on living, which he takes as cutting Cam from the video yearbook. He's asked to put him back in, but he avoids it by going to this art showpartything and taking drugs. That whole scene is so trippy and disturbing and leads Eli down a dark path. He has to deal with this trauma in his own way, just like everyone else.

Katie is still dealing with that happened in Vegas. Even though nothing did happen, she still lost Jake and now their friend-group is awkward. She also blows up at the manager at Little Miss Steaks when he gives Maya his business card, assuming that he has other intentions for her sister. Maya encourages her to speak with the counselor at school. This prompts her to throw her energy into saving the garden, including breaking down the barriers around it.

Jenna is working on a campaign to stop bullying and helps out Connor when he drops his stuff and Luke makes some rude comments about him. This prompts Connor to buy her flowers and ask her out on a date. She's hesitant because...it's Connor and he tells her that they're going to space. Super weird, but it turns out to be the coolest date ever. I cried, because I am just so happy for Connor. He gets the girl and gets to be himself. Even though Luke was trying to move in on her now. Go away jerkface.

Karma Police (1-2)

Drew is moving back home, and Fiona doesn't know how she's going to make rent. It looks like she's going to be working at the mall where she once shopped. She also starts tweeting about her #FormerRichGirlProblems and gains some internet admirers to curb the loneliness of her empty loft. It's also how she gets an unwanted guest and a gun to the head, since she has the geolocation turned on. She's feeling helpless, so...let's go learn how to shoot a gun! Buying one might be a bit more difficult.

Zig is lashing out after being annoyed at Tori and Tristan for crying over Cam during French class. He tells the teacher that he feels responsible for Cam's death and she assures him that he's not. Now Zig feels guilty for how he treated her and wants to make it up to her, by...singing a French song. Which he doesn't realize is about lovers.

Dallas and Alli finally have a date, which gets interrupted by his ex. Surprise. He explains to Alli that they're over, but he doesn't tell her that they have a son. He's afraid she'll run off like every other girl, especially when she tells him about her pregnancy scare. Of course, this means he lives the baby with Drew, and all hell breaks loose. Dallas desperately wants to be a good dad, but he also wants to live his life.

Zombie (1-2)

Maya asks out Zig, but he says no because of Cam. She's frustrated at everyone for thinking her way of grieving is wrong. She debuts a new sexy look and catches the eye of some random extra. Zig doesn't like New Maya, and neither do I. This is an important part of her character development though. This girl is going through things and doesn't know what to do. She even gives up on cello after a disastrous interview. She finally reaches her breaking point, and is on her way to healing. And Zig will be right there with her. As a friend.

Bianca got into University! So what is Drew suppose to do without her next year? Be student council president, of course! His campaign promise? Nonstop party! Remember how that worked out for Sav? Yeah. But Bianca admits that she nominated him because she thinks he can do it if he takes it seriously. He wins and asks Clare to be his VP, since she actually cares about the position. Drew realizes that he does want to be taken seriously, in light of losing sports. Responsible is a good look for Mr. Torres.

Connor is bored with Jenna and Alli's gossip, she he tries to get Alli a boyfriend so he can get more time with Jenna. Dave refuses to date her again, so Connor tries for Eli. Oh, no no no. His plan backfires when Jenna finds out what he's doing. Then he realizes that Eli is miserable and it's because he misses Clare, so he has a nice chat with him. He's trying really hard to do the right thing. Love is confusing.

The Time of My Life (1-2)

Imogen failed last term, which means no design school with Fiona. She doesn't want to tell her and ruin prom, but she can't lie to her. Fiona says everything will be fine, since they'll still be in the same city. At least until Fiona's mom shows up and gives her the good news: their assests are unfrozen and Fiona has a meeting with a big name designer for a job in Italy. Imogen is extremely upset at the idea of them being separated and nearly flows this opportunity for Fiona. The two do break up because Imogen doesn't want to hold Fiona back from her dreams.

Mo is bummed about possibly never seeing Jake again after graduation. He's about to leave prom until Marisol surprises him with a Jake appearance. This is the best bromance ever. And then Jake slips that Marisol paid Jake to show up. But Jake and Mo are bros for life!!! But Mo has to hijack graduation to make up missing their dance at prom, and I'm finally convinced that Mo and Marisol are a good couple.

Clare is giving Eli the space that he wants, so she's going to prom with some rando. This is also when Alli discovers a lump on Clare's back. But that is all on hold when Eli shows up with a horse and carriage. Clare still goes with rando, but spends all night ranting about Eli, and somehow missed that her date is gay? Of course, in a weird twist of fate, Clare and Eli were voted Prom King and Queen. Fate. They get back together and do the sex! Almost in the coat closet where Imogen is hiding. Way to kill the mood.
