Hamilton (2020)

Title: Hamilton
Rating: PG-13
Run Time: 2 hours 40 minutes
Release Date: July 3, 2020
Genre(s): Biography, Drama
Production Co.: Walt Disney Pictures
Director: Thomas Kail
Starring: Lin-Manuel Miranda, Phillipa Soo, Leslie Odom Jr.

Who would I recommend this to?
Musical enthusiasts.

What is this about?
Alexander Hamilton.

When would be a good time to watch this?
When you have nearly 3 hours to dedicate to something, but don't want to watch another Marvel trash.

Where does it take place?
New York.

Why did I decide to watch this?
Because everyone's been talking about and I wanted to know what the big deal was.

How did I like this?
It reminded me of Romeo + Juliet, and coming from me, that is a compliment, because I love that movie and how it merged the modern with the historical. However, it doesn't have the same rewatchability. The soundtrack is A+, but I couldn't tell you anything about the storyline which just seemed to be the events leading up to Alexander Hamilton's death?

Have you seen Hamilton? What did you think?
If not, would you watch it?

Finding Nemo (2003)

Title: Finding Nemo
Rating: G
Run Time: 1 hour 40 minutes
Release Date: May 30, 2003
Genre(s): Animation
Production Co.: Pixar Animation Studios
Director: Andrew Stanton, Lee Unkrich
Starring: Albert Brooks, Ellen DeGeneres, Alexander Gould

Who would I recommend this to?
If you like cute fishes and new friendships and familial relationships.

What is this about?
Exactly what the title suggests. We are trying to find Nemo, who is lost.

When would be a good time to watch this?
Now. We can all use a little Dory in our lives.

Where does it take place?
Pixar world. 42 Wallaby Way.

Why did I decide to watch this?
Because it's adorable.

How did I like this?
Disney likes to kill parents. Especially mothers. And this opening scene is just cruel and traumatizing. But Marlen is so freaking sweet and such a great dad!

Nemo's "lucky fin" and Dory's short-term memory loss are a great way to show kids (or anyone really) that it's okay to be different. Our handicaps don't have to  hold us back. We can all do great things and have adventures. With some help from friends.

I just love the colors and shapes and textures and the animation in general of this movie. It's so pretty.

Run Time: 1 hour 32 minutes
Release Date: November 2, 2001
Genre(s): Animation
Production Co.: Pixar Animation Studios

Who would I recommend this to?
Myself and everyone who likes cute movies.

What is this about?
Monsters scare children to power their town, but then one accidentally gets in and causes chaos! Also corporate corruption.

When would be a good time to watch this?
When you need a good laugh.

Where does it take place?
Monstropolis.

Why did I decide to watch this?
Again, I don't remember my first time seeing this, but the last time before this was during my last trip to Disney World. Right after meeting Mike and Sully!

How did I like this?
This movie is so fun and colorful! I love all of the different monsters!

I also love how this movie gets into corporate corruption and how businesses are always looking out for their bottom line rather than ethical practices! Not that most kids will understand that, but it's good to be aware of.

Have you seen Monsters, Inc.? What did you think?
If not, would you watch it?

Genre(s): Animation
Production Co.: Pixar Animation Studios
Director: John Lasseter, Ash Brannon
Starring: Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, Joan Cusack

Who would I recommend this to?
The world.

What is this about?
Woody is kidnapped! Well, stolen from a yard sale by a collector, and learns that he's a very valuable toy. Buzz leads a rescue mission to get Woody back.

When would be a good time to watch this?
Just like the first one, I used to watch this every month to get a good cry.

Where does it take place?
Pixar world.

Why did I decide to watch this?
I use to watch this (or the first one) every month to get a good cry. I love this movie.

How did I like this?
Woody meets his match in Jessie and The Prospector. He bullied Buzz until he realized and accepted that he was just a toy. This time Jessi and The Prospector must convince Woody that he's much more than a toy. He's their ticket to freedom.

Jessie's story just makes me weep. You are a heartless being, Emily!!! But multiple Buzzes cracks me up, and a showdown with Zurg!

No matter how many times I've watched this, I always have to wonder...what if Woody's pull string hadn't detached from the plane?

Fun extra: Mrs. Potatohead's bloopers are my favorite.

A Bug's Life (1998)

Title: A Bug's Life
Rating: G
Run Time: 1 hour 35 minutes
Release Date: November 25, 1998
Genre(s): Animation
Production Co.: Pixar Animation Studios
Director: John Lasseter, Andrew Stanton
Starring: Kevin Spacey, Dave Foley, Julia Louis-Dreyfus

Who would I recommend this to?
Those who can appreciate the humor and adorableness of Pixar movies about animals.

What is this about?
An ant colony has angered a band of greedy grasshoppers, so Flick sets out to find help!

When would be a good time to watch this?
When you need a little pick-me-up.

Where does it take place?
Pixar world.

Why did I decide to watch this?
I actually cannot remember the first time I saw this. I know it came out at the same time as Antz, which I did see in theaters. I do know I've seen this before though. Maybe.

How did I like this?
This movie is cute and educational. It teaches about the circle of life, at least when it comes to insects. The jokes are also really on point, many for the adults. Also, how to stand up for what's right!

There's a classic miscommunication plot going on here, where the bugs think Flick was looking for entertainers rather than fighters. Oops. But everyone works together to overcome evil!

Have you seen a Bug's Life? What did you think?
If not, would you watch it?

Toy Story (1995)

Title: Toy Story
Rating: G
Run Time: 1 hour 26 minutes
Release Date: November 22, 1995
Genre(s): Animation
Production Co.: Pixar Animation Studios
Director: John Lasseter
Starring: Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, Don Rickles

Who would I recommend this to?
Every single person ever. Unless you have a talking toy phobia.

What is this about?
Andy's favorite toy, Sheriff Woody, gets jealous of his new favorite toy, Buzz Lightyear. Hi-jinks ensue.

When would be a good time to watch this?
All of the time. I use to watch it once a month to release PMS emotions.

Where does it take place?
Pixar world.

Why did I decide to watch this?
I can't remember the first time I saw this, and I don't know how many times I've seen this movie.

How did I like this?
I freaking love this movie. If you don't, it's because you've never seen it. Don't lie to me. It's also the reason why I'm convinced my stuffed animals might have feelings.

Buzz and Woody have one of the greastest friendships in movie history. But Woody is kind of a jerk. Not gonna lie. He's basically the villain AND hero of this movie. It's interesting to think about.

I do wonder how this is rated G given all of the disturbing scenes of toys being violently tormented and dismembered. Not to mention some of those super creepy "cannibal" toys.

Have you seen Toy Story (yes!)? What did you think?
If not (liar!), would you watch it?
